Okay, a few of us have been looking forward to this movie being released for the past (almost) ten years. Tomorrow is that day, as it is released nation wide.

Anyone else planning on going???

Just curious. Another other thoughts or comments?

UPDATE:
I edited the Subject line because I thought there might be many who would have no idea what it meant and that it might be some liberal, anti-American, wacko, thread.

Me, DH and two DS's are going tomorrow. I read on the unofficial site it is 3 1/2 hours long  -- better pack lots of Twizzler's and Junior Mints.

Ok, I am clueless about the ten year wait. Please explain? But I can't wait to see it, planning on taking my dad there!

It looks like a really good movie!

DD's 8th grade History Class is taking a field trip to go see it next Friday (Feb 28th).

Field trip was only $4 which includes movie, popcorn, candy & soda . . .not too shabby! This is the least expensive field trip yet!

Jeff in Big D was supposed to be going to a showing tonight and was planning to post a review. I'll be going either Saturday or Sunday.

I read on the unofficial site it is 3 1/2 hours long

When the Director's cut comes out it is supposed to be 5½ hours. Unlike Gettysburg, they are having to show four battles here, not one. Someone in another thread mentioned that Antietam had been cut from the Theatrical release.

Has it been 10 years since "Gettysburg"? I didn't think it was that long, but I guess it has.

I want to see it but I don't know if I'll see it this weekend .. maybe next weekend.

3 1/2 hours long ... do they plan on having an intermission with this movie like they did with "Gettysburg" in the theatres?

OK, now I am really clueless, and please don't laugh at me. Is this a continuation in the story from the movie Gettysburg that you guys mentioned??? I did not see that one, should I see it first? Is is the same actors/characters??? Any info I would appreciate. Thanks.

Nope. G&G is a prequel. This movie covers the prewar years (Harper's Ferry) up through the battle of Chancellorsville, which took place a couple of months before Gettysburg. You can see G&G first, then rent Gettysburg at your leisure.

Most of the actors play the same roles they did in GBurg. Robert Duvall is replacing Martin Sheen as Robert E. Lee, and Stephen Lang, who plays George Pickett in GBurg, is playing Stonewall Jackson in G&G.

I'm looking forward to it too!:D

The movie wasnt supposed to be coming to my town, but some people at my school called WB (isnt that who's doing the movie?) and told them they wanted our students to be able to see the movie also.
So, Sat morning all students and sibilings can get in for free, only $5 for parents. I might go see it, but im going to be out of town so i cant. We have been watching trailors for it all week on News 4 You. Looks pretty good, but im not too much into wars, so...
:)

My husband wants to see this. I don't know when we will see it though.

It's playing at 3:15 at our cinema. It's 3 hours 49 minutes. I just went to see Lord of the Rings on Tuesday another 3 hour movie. My poor Butt:rolleyes:

I watched both My Big Fat Greek Wedding AND Sweet Home Alabama last weekend and DW STILL won't see G & G with me!

...an intermission!!! I haven't heard of an intermission in a movie since "The Godfather" and "The Ten Commandments"!

Yep it does have an intermission. Just read the reviews on Screenit.com and they pretty much panned it, as boring, no storyline and uninteresting characters. I would skip it but we promised the boys a movie and DD has a sleepover. So we are off to the 7oclock showing. I'm sure it will be a $7 nap for DH!

One of my students father was a civil war reannactor extra, but I have no idea who I would be looking for?!

Joel Seigel on Good Morning America said its only February but this is sure to be the worst movie of the year.

The critics say that about most historical epics. If there aren't any explosions, naked coeds, or Will Smith zinging aliens with either one-liners or a rocket launcher, it's not worth their time.

As for intermissions... If you saw it in the theater, Gettysburg had an intermission. Also the directors cuts of Lawrence of Arabia and Das Boot when they were re-released. Those are the only ones I remember.

Well, we saw it last night!!!

I'm going to want to see this at least two more times in the theatre before it goes to DVD.

I thought it was INCREDIBLE!!! I know everyone has different tastes but anyone who says this is the worst movie of the year is an idiot! I like a WIDE variety of movies. I can handle everything from "Guy Movies" to "Chick Flicks".

If Mr. Joel Seigel of Good Morning America thinks it was that bad, he should have paid better attention in history class.

On that point, you could tell that there were a number of people that were totally clueless about what they were watching. A girl (sorry ladies, but she was female. I'm sure there were guys there in the same boat) in front of me had to have her boyfriend explain at the end that this was the beginnining of the Civil War and that the movie Gettysburg actually comes, chronologically after "Gods and Generals".

I hope everyone on the DIS boards gets to see this film and enjoys it. It's pretty rare these days that ANYONE makes a movie that you can take your family to and leave feeling informed and that you have learned something .

(It may be too intense for little ones, during the battle scenes)
