New Monorail Wrap

Kudos points to anyone who knows why this Iron man monorail can't be used on the TTC to Epcot line.

Since it is promoting a Marvel movie that monorail can not go inside Epcot because Universal has theme park rights east of the Mississippi.

I know they have current limits on the Marvel 'rights' but the Avengers monorail wrap went into Epcot all the time last year... thats the first place we saw it and we rode it from MK to Epcot.

I know that I am not likely to be successful in convincing you your memories maybe skewed, but I have to say that the Avenger Monorail was never on the Epcot beam. The Tron-o-rail, the wrap previous to the Avengers was used exclusively on Epcot because it was felt that it did not work with the MAgic Kingdom's theme. The previous posters are correct in that the Avenger monorail, and now the Iron Man monorail are exclusive to the Magic Kingdom Beams due to the contract restrictions with Universal. Disney is not allowed to use the Marvel characters in the Florida theme parks, and since the Epcot beam passes through the park, it would be a serious violation of the contract as it reads right now.

No, you are right... it was the Tron monorail we rode from MK to Epcot.

The Avengers we rode around the resort loop!

Just got the two confused....

I'm OK with the wraps used in moderation but my problem is when Disney uses them for Marvel/Tron when they really aren't "Disney" movies. For example if a new classic Disney Animation Studios movie came out the same time as a Marvel movie, Disney would choose Marvel, opening doors that should not be open.

Well get ready...cause the jedirail is a mere year and a half away...

This is where Disney under Iger has taken a turn. They are becoming hoarders of "content" and will not hesitate to remind you of what tools are in the box. This is the way media is going...but CMB is a little too proud of himself for it.

Iger is a TV guy...TV networks are nothing without shows. Iger is in that mode.

Eisner was actually a little better about this...at least in the early days.

But don't expect any hold back on using any material for cheap PR...not gonna happen.

Besides, the weirdness about marvel is that we know there are rides across town with the same characters...that is bizarre and just something Disney fans will have to live with. Not changing.

'Tron' was an original Disney movie, released in 1982, with the sequel 'Tron: Legacy' released in 2010. Of course Disney didn't aquire Marvel until 2009 but they also didn't own Pixar until 2006, which lots of people forget was not an original Disney company either.

Although the wraps used on the monorail are for action-adventure movies, they could obviously put a wrap for any movie they wanted on the monorail and have more than one at a time. However, the wraps have 'fit' the recent movies used, for example the bikes from Tron and in this case the flying Iorn Man. I don't know how well a 'Planes' or "Monsters University' wrap would work since those are some of the animated movies coming out this year. Disney does use a variety of it's movies for other events, such as the Flower and Garden Festival, where 'action' movies wouldn't quite work as well.

I don't think they really use them to promote the movies because Disney fans (at the parks) will probably see the movie anyway. Not sure why they spend the money on the wraps, but most people seem to enjoy them. Promoting the feeling of 'something that you have to see' because it will only be around for a short time however is another matter... urgency and the feeling of 'missing out' definitely sells!

Guess they could have used the Lone Ranger...

We were there last summer on our honeymoon and my husband was ecstatic when we FINALLY got to ride the Avengers monorail. There's a picture on my trip report and this was the most excited I saw him the entire trip! :rotfl:
