New "Mom's to Be" Thread!

I went in for my 12 week appointment. Up until this point, we haven't done anything "fun," but today was the day we would get to hear the heartbeat. The midwife had some trouble finding it with the doppler, so she brought in the portable ultrasound.

She found the baby right away, jumping around and with a strong heartbeat. I was so relieved and jokingly said "there's only one, right?" She said "Yep, just......wait a second....I think there's another one..."

My heart skipped about 10 beats, and DH got a little pale. Yep, there's 2. Both measure right at 12 weeks, and have great heartbeats (162 and 167).

We have no twins on either side in the last few generations, and we had no interventions, so this is a HUGE surprise. Huge. Still trying to digest it, but I'll be honest, I get a huge smile every time I think about the two little ones.

Thats so fun!!! Congrats! :cheer2:

Bekkiz, Congratulations on the twins! I LOVED having twins.

AFM: We scheduled my c-section yesterday! :cheer2: Noah will be arriving on June 26th. :goodvibes Unless, of course, I go into labor on my own before then which I'm scared of doing!

I am a little jealous Octoberbeauty, ok a LOT jealous :lmao: I wish I knew when Audrey was going to grace us with her presence. Congrats on having the date locked in.

Just thought I´d post a pic of Jökull and mommy when he was 1-2 hours old.

Freyja, he is absolutely beautiful! You look fantastic, too, for being so close to delivery! :goodvibes

We hit 32 weeks today! 4 weeks and 2 days ago (I think), I sat in an ultrasound room waiting to see where my bedrest would be spent for the duration of the pregnancy. My OB hoped that bedrest might buy us "a couple more weeks". I'd say it's working! I still shudder at the idea of how much longer it might be :rotfl: but I know today is really something worth celebrating! On to next week, or as many days as we can buy!

We had a scare today. I had what I thought was Braxton Hicks contractions today, but when I had some other side effects my coworkers insisted I go to the hospital! They monitored my contractions which ended up being premature labor! Thank God I went to the hospital, they were able to give me shots to calm the uterus and stop the contractions. This little girl did not like the fetal monitor on her though and kicked almost the entire time at it. She does that anytime something presses into her! So I am on weekend bedrest now and cannot go back to work until I get my doctor's ok. Dang... :rotfl:

Bethy Lou, that must have been SO scary. I'm glad the docs were able to get things under control

tink2020, just think you're in the home stretch. I know you can make it through :)

Freyja, I think birth suits you. You look so happy and relaxed, and that new little one is so cute. Congrats!

I am still having a little trouble coming to terms with the fact that there's going to be two. I alternate between being so excited and very scared. I know I can handle one (feeding, getting one into a car seat etc). But two? I hope I have the strength. :lmao: I guess I just need a little confidence. And, I have 6 more months to gain it!

thanks tink and bekkiz!

I have heard from moms of twins that once you get a routine established things get MUCH easier, though I definitely can imagine feeling scared too! I am sure you will be amazing though!:goodvibes

Yep......routine with twins (or IMO with any baby) is definitely the key..we live and die by the routine here...the babies know what to expect in their day,and it keeps me sane!!!:dance3:

I do feed them at the same time too..one on each side of me in the boppy pillow (I bottle feed). I n the early days we did the same thing..when one woke up hungry we woke the other one. The ybasically put themselves on the every 3 hour schedule, and now we eat every 3 1/2 hours and sleep through the night. We started Solids and do one meal a day..they had Avacado for hte first time yesterday!

Well, I make this post from the hospital! :sad2: The good news is, my cervix is actually holding up, or at least holding mostly steady. Still closed, which is great (and surprising to us all!), a bit more effaced. The bad news for the day was that Baby A's fluid went from "low normal" to just "low"... and pretty low at that. The current plan is a lot of fluids overnight (1L bolus just completed, and is beeping incessantly in my ear, plus 150/hr all night), then repeat the scan at the peri's office (connected to the hospital) tomorrow morning. If the level went up, then I'll go home tomorrow and we'll recheck it again at the end of the week. If it stays up, we're back on track to have BPP's and appointments every week until further notice. If it doesn't go up, or doesn't stay up, then they will consider steroid boosters and a fairly quick delivery. We'll see! This isn't a very nice birthday present for my DH! Instead of the nice dinner and fun evening we had planned, we sat around at the office all afternoon, didn't eat for hours, then had Wendy's in the hospital room -- and not a good room at that, a triage room since I'm just short stay at this point. It might be a long night... 2 heartbeats and a monitor in my right ear, an IV pump in my left, a nurse that comes in continuously because Baby A is so low the monitor won't pick her up at all the second she moves any...... but hopefully it's just one night!

ETA: So I should ask again... who wants to be next to take over the list? :)

Hope everything turns out well and that you´re back home, safe and sound, very soon.

Freyja- congrats and I wish you a speedy recovery (he was huge) yikes!!

YOu look wonderful!! This is your 5th? :worship:

I hope those babies stay in there!! I know it's horrid trying to get any sleep in the hospital, so hopefully things will look good and you can go home and rest there. Hang in there!
