New MK Paid Disney After Hours Event Announced

I am thinking about it. I really wish I knew what the 'and much, much, more" entailed, that would either make or break it for me. We happen to be at the world for the first night. DH and I have been discussing it and we are thinking that if it turns out to be something really great, we might regret not having done it later. We did a lot of Disney this year, but this year was unusual for us and it might be several years before we can go again (not because of money, but because of upcoming family stuff), so it might be worth it. Late night EMH are our very favorite time to be in the park, I know that we usually get a ton of rides in during the two hours of late EMH in MK, so this could be a really good opportunity for that, and if there were some great extras, I do think that the price might have a lot of value. But it's still unknown at this point. I'm so on the fence....

Would you be willing to give a detailed review? I am so curious about what the experience will be like.

I personally do not think this means for certain the end of EMH. For one thing this includes non-Disney resort guests and I think that is their target group. Only time will tell.

I think they will lose a good many resort bookings if they end EMH.

I too remember when Disney used to do this years ago. Same exact program, (minus the ice cream) just MK with select rides and limited amount of tickets. It was awesome. I remember going in 2001 and for several years thereafter until they started EMH. BUT...the charge back then was $12.00. Now they want to charge $149.00 for three hours????They have lost their collective mind! The greed just keeps on coming!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love you Disney but you are starting to piss me off!

As someone who remembers what E-Ride Nights were like... Once the reports start coming in, I'm sure there will be some that change their minds. What E-Ride Nights were like:

During the last hour, we'd get on Buzz Lighyear and ride as many times as we wanted WITHOUT GETTING OFF THE RIDE. We'd just wave at the unload CM's and they'd wave back, and you'd ride around to load, and through the ride again. We rode until our trigger fingers hurt.

We rode Splash Mountain when we were the only people in the log.

At $10 a night, it was a dream come true. At $150, some people will still think it is. *slumps head against keyboard*

We experienced an E-Ride Night as you described and also one that was very crowded with long waits and not worth the time. I don't think they were limited as much as many have reported. I suspect that the Disney-After-Hours will be limited to a significantly low number.

Two things that caught my attention are the short list of specifically mentioned attractions and that guests will be able to enter at 7pm. The first is not so good but I guess Disney planners are being flexible. The 2nd makes this much more attractive for potential guests.

I'm not so sure this is the beginning of the end of EMH. Clearly Disney is having a problem with too many people going to the MK instead of the other parks. This sounds like an attempt at crowd control to me. They offer a ticketed event on the days where MK will be too busy during the day in the hopes that people will go during the night. People won't want to wast a day on their passes the day they go so they don't go during the day. The guest who buy the event tickets will be happy because they can ride the rides without huge waits, the day guests won't be as upset because the lines are too long and Disney makes money at the same time. It makes Disney look better than when they are calling people asking them to go to other parks in exchange for extra Fast Passes because MK is too busy.

You know a while back I heard a rumor that Disney was going to offer offsite guests the opportunity to pay to attend EMH mornings/nights. I wonder if this is a test for that, or in some way related? To see how many people would pay for EMH?

I don't think that will ever happen. EMH is a perk for resort guests. If you can pay for EMH, there's no point to staying on site for many people.

It's a FREE perk for onsite guests. Offsite guests would be paying for it. Depending on the price, it might make a difference to some people.

In the end, it's just another money grab. Disney will get their money for Shanghai, and some people with lots of discretionary income will get to feel special that they can stay for a few extra hours because they were willing to pay an unbelievable price. We'll have to wait and see if it becomes permanent. Just think of it like paying for concierge level- it's not for most people, but a small percentage of people will be willing to pay for it to feel special.

I'll be there 5/12 with no plans to stay after 11. We will have been there from rope drop rope drop and 14 hours is more than enough touring.

I think events like this are specifically for people who have no intention of going to rope drop.

I didn't skim through more than the first couple and last handful of pages...this is a HUGE money grab. <sarcasm on>Free ice cream and pop between 11PM and 2AM...yeah they are going to really taking a beating on that<sarcasm off>.

If this was being offered during a week I had already planned out, and they cut out EMH for that week in order to increase interest in this, I'd be angry...VERY ANGRY.

It's pretty obvious by this point that Disney is simply trolling us. I picture a few people in an office thinking up crazy and outlandish fee increases and adds, laughing to each other "NO WAY THEY WILL BUY THIS" while they roll out $400 increases in Annual passes, then increased daily tickets, then "surge pricing", "premium parking", "Pay $150 for EMH".

I'm pretty sure these people are laughing their butts off each time they throw out an even more ridiculous concept and folks gobble it up...

I am sure others will agree but I can't overstate how much fun was had at MK between 10 pm and 1 am last June, and these were not EMH.

On first glance I couldn't believe what I was reading. However I can find one scenario where this would work for my family. This would be a great way to get our Disney fix during a Universal vacation. Last year (for the first time ever) we went to Universal instead of Disney. We had a great time and enjoyed Universal, however we REALLY missed Disney. We actually considered coughing up the $$$ to visit MK for a day. However we knew it would be crazy busy with Spring Break crowds.

If this is really going to be limited ticket event with little to no waits it would be the perfect way to visit our favorite park. I would never consider it during a regular Disney vacation, however, because I just don't see the point.

I think as an alternative for a one-day ticket to MK (if that is what you were originally intending to buy), this isn't that bad of a deal depending on how crowded it is. And you get to be there at night instead of under the sweltering sun. So I guess this could be seen as part of their crowd shifting techniques.

This just sounds ridiculous!!! Sorry Disney, but as much as I love you, the price increases and cutbacks cannot be justified. No way would I pay any extra for a few more park hours. If I wanted an empty park I would visit in Sept.
