New MK Paid Disney After Hours Event Announced

this isn't being marketed to megafans but to guests who want an evening without lines in the park (I'm guessing because we still don't exactly know the capacity of the event).

Megafans who go often don't need to pay a lot for a night without lines.

Guessing they're not marketing to families with young kids either; hazarding another guess that most young families won't pay $150 per child for a late night offering.

Who but megafans would pay $600 for a family of 4 for 3 hours?

Write Disney and voice your opinion on this. Especially about Extra Magic Hours. I would want conformation as to how many tickets would be sold before I would even consider it.

If it's anything like their ability to limit the tickets the way they did for Villains Unleashed, then I'd be really upset.
I'm still traumatized from that night. :scared::laughing:

I can't read this anymore -the disneyworld link is gone....anyone else?

It says denied access is this a scam?

Very slow loading page so my guess some formats might be struggling with it.

This is what it says:

How does Disney police the EMH anyway? Do non-resort guests just leave at, for example, 10pm by the honor system while those staying at a resort get to stick around til 1am? (example)

How in the world are they going to keep people who didn't buy this $149 ticket from lingering at the parks til the wee hours?

Non-resort guests are allowed to stay in for EMH to shop and eat AKA spend money. In order to go on a ride you must scan your MagicBand so that is where they weed out the offsite.

To pull this off they will need to handle like parties, with a special wristband. It will slow all down and waste valuable guest time to scan for every ride and free snack.

I believe you have to scan your magic band at the rides to prove you're staying on site (for the evening EMH)

when we were there in September, riding space mountain during EMH, they were just asking people where they were staying. If they said a Disney resort, they let them ride. I was kind of annoyed by that, because it busier than I though it would be. It didn't take a genius to figure out you just needed to say a Disney resort and you could stay.

Guilty of this for EPCOT - we like to shop in the world showcase without crowds and it's great. We just enjoy the ambiance of the park - don't need to ride rides!

I am just SO disappointed in this obvious money grab by WDW.....so much that I am not sure we are going to renew our APs at the end of the year. These past few months have been one hit after another--starting with the AP restructure and price hike in Oct '15 for us. The recent examples of tiered ticketing prices, Club Villian price hike, the preferred parking fee, cutbacks in staff, the rumored resort fee....I'm having a hard time feeling the magic and am reluctant to talk up WDW with family and friends anymore. I'm actually starting to envy our friends going to US this Spring break while we do WDW!

Me too! And that was less than half the price!

This means they will probably eliminate the evening EMHs eventually. Why have a party that people will pay $150 for if you just have it for free the following evening?

Just looking at the calendar .. 4/13 has an evening MK EMH, the next night is the first of these special night hours parties.

So .. the night before, if you are a resort guest you get to stay at the MK until 1:00 AM .. for free.

The VERY next night, 4/14, guests will be paying $149 to experience something very similar and stay until 2:00 AM? It sounds like the only difference for $150 is you get:
1 extra hour and Free "ice cream novelties and bottled drinks' (in other words .. mickey bars and sodas)?

I mean it is available to NON-resort guests as well, but really .. I can see this being used primarily by resort guests (and maybe locals)

People who don't think $600 bucks is a lot of money, that's not me personally but one of my aunts works on wall st and the bonus she got is more than I make in a year. She's going with her family of 4 in september and if its still going on I can see her doing an event like this.

I can't read this anymore -the disneyworld link is gone....anyone else?

From my iPhone I have to copy and paste the link into safari in order for it to open properly. Otherwise in Google app it states access denied. Try a different browser.

Worth noting that for that $150 per ticket a family that stays offsite could stay onsite and do no worse than break even and take advantage of EMH

Did e nights stop after the 9/11 slow down?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the timing matches. This was moved from a pay-extra event to a "free" perk for hotel guests, in an effort to boost hotel occupancy.

Back then, Disney shifted a pay event (I think it was $12 when it was ended) to a free benefit for hotel guests.
A decade and a half later, Disney offers a similar event for $150. (Don't forget the free Cokes!!!! Those cost about a dollar each at your local grocery store!!!)

I'm sure there's a lot to be announced. Like maybe everyone gets a personal character tour guide. I would totally pay $150 for Goofy to be my dedicated chaperon for 3 hours.

E-ride nights ran from 1997 to 2004. They were limited to 5000 people per night. So 12 years later and with the addition of ice cream and the ability to enter the park 3 hours early, the price increases from $13 to $149 per person-- that is assuming that it is still limited to 5000 people per night which I kind of doubt will be the case. I looked around and back in 2004, it appears that the only rides open during E-nights in 2004 were:

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Buzz Lightyear Haunted Mansion
Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
Mickey's PhilharMagic
Peter Pan's Flight
Space Mountain
Splash Mountain

So, I guess that would make it worth the employees needed to keep the park and the specific attractions open for that low price and that few people. For $150 there better be a whole lot more attractions going.

I agree--beginning of the end of EMH for resort guests (at least Evening Magic hours...). Did too many people balk at the resort fee of $15 that included EMH and they had to come up with something else? Frankly I feel WDW has gone too far with, all the price hikes and "nickel and diming" I feel lately from the fees and "extras" that were part of what made the Disney magic. We will see how we feel after our trip in 2 weeks. We have APS through December so will probably go at least once more--next year who knows?
