New MK Paid Disney After Hours Event Announced

Why does anybody think this will be a low capacity event?
Great question. I think for the price everyone is assuming it will be, but they have only stated "admission is limited to only a select number of Guests" which could mean anything. There is no guarantee this will be any different than the other parties.

This is just the start. If they are willing to charge $150 a head for this, down the road I can see $300 for unlimited Fast Pass+, maybe pay to ride in a parade, private character meet and greets…$25 to guarantee a role in Story Time with belle..sunrise with Mickey for $500…enjoy the MK before official opening with special mickey shaped toast! (toasters available for purchase)

I am not trying to be funny I can see all of these happening

I would much prefer to see the addition of several high-dollar, limited experiences emerge if that would mean price stabilization of the basics (i.e. no increases over the cost of inflation) while maintaining the current perks for on-site guests.

I agree. Attendance will be limited to those willing to pay for it.

And think about this, if you greatly reduce the amount of attractions that are open in the MK a small crowd could make the waits just as long as normal (for that time at night). BTMRR might have a normal wait time of 20 minutes during EMH, and it'll probably be the same at this party because you know only one track will be running. Plus there won't be other attractions open to eat up the crowd.

I'm curious what Disney has done recently that leads you to believe they would use proceeds from these high-dollar things to stabilize prices in other areas?

Regular EMH might actually be more appealing. People tend to stay for a little bit and that last hour tends to be very low crowd. If someone's paying $149 to attend a 3 hour event you can bet they're going to stay until the bitter end.

Yes I don't see how this is a good deal at all. The price is way to much. I don't get why they would charge so much if they are not going to make it worth our money and time.

Lol..perhaps..my 10 year old nephew would love it too I'm sure. DH and I though..20 mickey bars and 20 sodas between the 2 of us? Not so much...and it's well past dd's bedtime (she's 3), so yeah...very much not happening.
I wouldn't be surprised if they scan your band and have a limit, just like the refillable mugs.

Me too, yet with a sense of dread. I can't take another curveball for this April trip.

Haven't finished catching up, but maybe there's a new Wishes hub dessert party coming down the pike, seems to coincide with the demise of the FPs...
Maybe it's not a dessert party at all, maybe it'll just be premium viewing spot for x amount of dollars?

It's a great idea .. I've always figured that people would be willing to pay (not sure if THIS is the price point) for the park to be open to "limited" capacity.

Considering it seems like they let you in the park at 7:00 PM and let you stay until 1:00 AM .. that is 6 hours (3 of which are "limited" capacity) of the MK .. $150 isn't that bad.
I mean . .when you put in afternoon breaks . .how long does a "typical" (aka - not a "super touring") family stay in the parks?
You'll probaly get more done in those 3 hours than you could in 10 hours on a normal day.
That is why this will be so appealing.

But due to the late hours and the cost, I am guessing it will have limited appeal. (It's not like a family with young kids is going to stay at the parks until 1:00 AM), but I do think it will be popular and potentially sell out.

It DOES mean that the park will be that much more crowded though for regular guests from 7pm -10pm, so that would be a good day to avoid MK or just hop to another park after the morning.

Turns out I'll be there on May 5th and had planned on going to the MK that day. So, my goal will be to there as late as possible now without a ticket (armband). I'm going to get in the longest line right at 9:59 p.m., then I'll walk around the park enjoying the sights and sounds. No need to go on rides. I'll observe how many less people there actually are in the park.
Thats the spirit! With the reduced staffing and other cuts, you should be fine

Why does anybody think this will be a low capacity event?
I think people are assuming because the wdw site says its limited and the initial rumour mentioned a low capacity. But that isnt confirmed and lets face it, this will be limited to how many people are willing to throw away their money

Let's keep in mind this is an event that is not closing the park early, so it's an event totally by choice and not effecting regular guests. I don't see the issue, if you want to pay that crazy amount then by all means go to it! My MVMCP tickets was $70 and I only go every three or so years, so I'll stick with that. More bang for your bucks. I will definitely pass. Not worth it.
I pointed out earlier it does effect regular guests, with the thousands of extra people flooding into the park at 7pm.

$150 isn't that much compared to what? A single day ticket? How many hardcore fans who would attend something like this typically buy one day tickets?

The only way I would pay that is if it is anything like those conference events at the MK. They will have to offer food and drinks . If it is just and extra 3 hours of rides there is just no way.

They are starting to make it seem the $15 resort fee for extra magic hours reasonable :crazy2:

maybe that is their strategy:

"First, we put out the thought of charging a $15/night resort fee ... then we put out the rumor of $149 fee for EMH .... then people will gladly pay the $15 resort fee thinking that they are getting something valued at $149 for only $15 - it's genius!"

OMG... I just figured it out. This is how Disney is going to convince everybody to go along quietly and happily with the $15 Resort fee. After this kind of gouging for extra magic hours, nobody is going to say boo about a paltry $15 Resort fee that would then include extra magic hours.

Perhaps this is their attempt to determine a dollar value for EMH. We know we're already paying a premium to stay at a WDW hotel. They're only trying this for a few nights to see how many people will buy tickets. If they sell out, they can say, "Hey Disney hotel guests, this EMH perk is worth $150." And that gives them justification to raise hotel prices for everyone, because that value is built into the nightly price.

I really don't think it's going to hurt EMH. I think Disney is going after people who stay offsite.
Now Disney can say EMH are worth around $150 and it's one of the great benefits of staying onsite.

This is exactly what I thought when I heard about this event. Makes 15$ seem not so significant. I know it was said this info was leaked and they wanted to make the announcement in correlation to another announcement. Maybe the announcement they were planning on making was "Oh 15$ resort fee being added BUT it's 150$ a night for EMH if you are offsite so look at what a great deal!!"
Only time will tell.

So, MASSIVE crowds from 7-10pm (day guests plus event guests)...

You "get" to watch Wishes/MSEP (which everyone who bought a standard admission ticket also gets)...

Free Mickey bars and soda/water after 10pm...

3 hours of rides (with hopefully lower crowds depending on how the party sells)...

And the privilege of buying Starbucks and hot dogs if you need food while there...

For $150 + tax. Per person.

What am I missing? How is this any kind of appealing situation? No special meets, fireworks, parades, dance parties, concerts, shows, merchandise. It's the $10 E-ride night from years ago with ice cream and soda.
