Hello,

We will be taking our first trip to WDW for 8 nights to WL with my DAD, MOM, GF and myself(24); all adults. Here are the details, if some people could please review,TIA:

Sept. 8-16 Value season Deluxe Resort
7 Day standard passes
8 nights in a standard room at WL
dinning package
magical express

aaa package discount
flying form los angeles to orlando $500.00(uncle helped out)

total including flight 4307.25

I know there are probably a lot of cheaper ways of going to WDW but this is our first trip and we believe WL will suit our style perfectly. In fact one of our plans was to go to yellowstone this summer. I was telling my parents that we could do both by going to WL. We'll just spend $810.00/night(rack rate) in the WL presidential suit and view the gyser every hour on the hour from 7am-10pm! They didn't buy it ;)

Anyways, back to my questions, if you guys could please review the package and let me know what you think. All comments are welcome.

Thanks,
Steven

The best thing to do would be to price everything out separately:
  • airfare = $500 courtesy of your uncle
  • 8 nights at WL std view, AAA discount, value season = $1509
  • 7-day MYW base tickets (expiry) for 4 adults from Ticketmania = $800
  • Magical Express = FREE to anyone staying on Disney property
  • total = $2809

That means that you'll be paying nearly $1500 for that dining package! WOW!

Now, I'm assuming that by "standard" passes you mean MYW base tickets. Those tickets have no hopping, no plus features and expire 14 days after their first day of use. If your tickets are something other than 7-day MYW base tickets, that would contibute to the higher cost of your package. If they're just base tickets, I think you're paying too much just to be able to addon the dining option. 4 adults can certainly eat for less than $188/day.

I see your point, I guess I was taking into account that people kept saying the dining package was a great deal and that you could easily spend over $35.00 a day per person. But 188/4 = $47.00 per person per day with this package if I were to book seperate. Could we do it? Sure. I'm not saying it's not possible or not even worth the trouble I guess I was just wondering if it was something the budgent board would be ok with.

I guess the second thing is that I can book everything seperate like your saying, and hope for AP discounts and just force the issue of spending less than $47.00 a day per person(totally do-able).

My question to you would be is "8 nights at WL std view, AAA discount, value season = $1509" including 4 poeple factored in with increased room rate for 4 people and then discounted?

You have a point about the two extra adults. That would up the cost to $1955 for the room (an additional $25/person/night X 2 people X 8 nights + tax). That makes the difference $1052 between your package and pricing it out separately. That would leave you with about $131/night to feed 4 adults. It can be done for that amount but you would probably eat "better" by going with the package.

Thanks again for the review aka-mad4themouse. Anyone else have any thoughts on this? Anything would be appreciated. Thanks!

The dining package is really subjective.

Are you the type of people who are there just for the rides? Will you literally run from one roller coaster to another, caring about little else? If so, you'd probably be happier at Universal, but that's another topic. Do you squirm while you wait for your waiter to bring your food, knowing that he's cutting into your Splash Mt. time? If this is you and you'll be just as happy with a cheeseburger at every meal, then skip the dining plan.

On the other hand, are you more laid-back in your vacation plans? Do you look forward to sampling different restaruants with unique themes? Have you already counted out your 60-day PS-ressie mark on your calendar? If so, pay for the dining package and enjoy every meal.

We're the type that likes to take our time with things including meals. We love food and the experience. We're hardcore Disneyland VETS and love just hanging out at Disneyland from a day to a few hours just taking our time. I realize that WDW will be different in that we havne't been there before and would like to see everything but we've got a full 7 days because we booked extra nights to take full advantage of the 7 day passes. This is not to say we'll miss nothing but I will say again that we love to eat and love taking our time.

Thanks!
