Hey everyone, I'm about to make my 3rd wdw visit in my life, this time with my current girlfriend. We're in our 20's, and I wanna surprise her as a birthday present in July! I'm so excited, she has NO idea. I stayed at Carribean last time a few years back, and I didn't like it that much. So here's my question:

As a romantic getaway for about 6 days/5 nights, which resort should we go to? It looks like our budget keeps us away from deluxe resorts. I'm thinking either Port Orleans FQ, or Riverside. OR....Coronado? POFQ seems to get really great reviews everywhere I check.

Any help would be MUCH appreiciated!
Thanks!

As far as nice rooms hands down Coronado Springs. Rooms were just refurbished a couple of years ago. Check for FL Resident or pass holder rates if you are a pass holder.

Your gf is one lucky gal!
Though I have never stayed at either Port Orleans resorts, I can imagine it'd be romantic. I believe the rooms at Riverside are being renovated/reburbished. But I'm unsure if they're finished with all the rooms. Coronado Springs is a huge resort. Really spread out. It houses a convention center, so that might explain the size. My pick would be either Riverside or French Quarter. I think you'd come up tops with those! Good luck!:)

You are so sweet to be thinking of this for your gf's birthday !
Ok...now listen up...I'm about to let you in on a little known secret...POFQ is amazing! Hubby and I LOVED our stays here. Although we went on to delux and now DVC, we still talk about how much we miss staying at POFQ.
POFQ is quaint, not spread out at all...has a boat that takes you to POR and DTD...has a hot tub, pretty cool pool/slide...and I love the theme. We haven't stayed Coronado but have stayed POR and POFQ and I choose POFQ.

Hands down, no arguement here. POFQ.

Rooms were just refurbished last year and they are beautiful. They were converted to queen beds, but you can get a king bed room for an upcharge. Resort is compact and very quaint, beautiful at night. Entertainment in the lounge - Elliot Dyson is a jazz saxophonist. Lovely pool and hot tub.

Boat to DTD is wonderful.

You also have all the amentities at POR.

Horse Carriage rides or Surrey Bike rides. Sit-down restaurant and wonderful food court (the best on property next to POP). Yee-hah Bob in the lounge. One more large pool with wonderful outdoor lounge and five more quiet pools.

I would not hesitate to stay at POFQ for a wonderfully romantic week. I always stay at POR, and I never tire of the water taxi ride to DTD and seeing POFQ at night - it really looks like you are in NO.

Enjoy.

If you're ok with reduced Disney-ness, have you priced the Swan and Dolphin? Their prices can be comparable to the mods, especially if you qualify for any of the special discounts (teacher, police, etc), but with fancier amenities and a great location. I'm new here myself but this is the recommendation I got from friends for my own adults-only getaway.

See what theming you like best, but if I was a single gal still in my 20's, I could totally love to be at CSR with a new boyfriend. The lights at night look great there and I love southwestern theming ( oh, and taco stuff!). I did go to CBR also on my honeymoon, but had tried to get CSR and they had a conference and couldn't get it. Also, I know there's an outside bar on the water at CSR plus the bar at the pool, and inside. Plus probably more adults at CSR due to conferences and the fact that POR supports families of 5 with space (not that anyone else will make a difference for you two). (Did I mention Churros available for dessert, too?)

Thank you Sooo much! You guys rock! looks like probably POFQ. My gf loves loves Mexican food though so it'll be a rough decision NOT doing CSR. Better off with FQ and not Riverside though huh?

Hey OP, nice job on the surprise vacation! :thumbsup2 I've stayed at both and my vote is for the CSR. For many reasons. Their pool is out of this world. They have a great pool bar as well and a terrific nighttime lounge. There is also a Spa there for massages if you like and a fitness center. The grounds are gorgeous! There are hammocks you could relax in by the water. The marina has some water craft for rental (open seasonally, but it's fun to do!). The Pepper Market beats the POFQ food court by a mile and there is a sit down restaurant on site. POFQ is great for people who cannot walk very far without discomfort or those with small children. One of the biggest draws is that the CSR does not share a bus with any other resort. POFQ shares a bus with POR Riverside.

Not that POFQ is bad at all, I really do like it. I just would totally PREFER CSR, especially if not traveling with my parents or children. Good luck and have a great time!

I think either would be a great choice, and they are next door to each other so you'll probably spend time at both.

Yes, the Pepper Market is a great restaurant but CSR is indeed huge - it would be my favourite resort if it weren't for the size and the fact that it's packed with convention people much of the time (for me, it makes it just too much like every other hotel because of that). You can always go to the Pepper Market for lunch if you're in the area. :thumbsup2

That is a huge misconception "CSR is packed with convention attendees". Not so, in fact, you very rarely see them. They are working during the days. If CSR is a contender for you, check out the CSR thread for photos and info, it's a great one!

I would recommend CS very nice romantic property if you like the aztec theme, we loved it with all the fountains and hammocks and pools. Also I would recommend doing the tomorrowland dessert party in MK 1 night, I surprised my wife with it and she thought it was romantic just a thought and GL

I agree that you should not discount Swan/Dolphin, they have some great rates and the location can no be beat!

Okay! So...after doing some more looking around at POFQ, and POR..and then comparing with CSR, I think I like CSR more. Even though all of you guys highly suggest POFQ, and all websites suggest POFQ too. I'm not crazy about how small POFQ looks, and that I'd have to travel over to Riverside just to have a nice dinner with my girlfriend. She's a mexican food nut. So that's a bonus about CSR, and I really like that it is larger so it looks/feels more substantial. It just looks like it's more us. More so than POFQ/POR.

What important points do you guys have about why POFQ is better and more romantic for my girlfriend and I?

PS: How late can I make reservations for a vacation package (room, mealplan, flight, transportation)?

Not ALL of us... ;) I'm pro CSR all the way for you two.

Well, you already know I totally back you on this. I loved CSR. I can only imagine it if I was single and with a new guy. You'll love it. Research and see where you want to request for rooms. Many think the Casitas are awesome and I would agree for you. Also, better to get on the first bus, than the last. We stayed in Cabanas, but I have kids. I'm telling you, you are going to love it. That being said, my next trip this year we are trying POR, but just cause we like to try new places. (Don't worry if you get sick of mexican, you can still eat meat, spaghetti, pizza and all those other things too!)
