Hi there,

We purchased 240 points at SSR this morning! My husband and I have had reservations for a trip for Dec. 4-10 for months now but we decided that due to our love for Disney we might as well buy into DVC since we will be going there probably every year. Anyway, our guide informed us that we wouldn't be able to stay in a DVC property for our Dec trip but we could get into some of the other on-site hotels which is ok for us. I realize it'll be higher points but I'm fine with that. My question is that our guide informed us that we would be unable to get the dining plan since we would be staying at a non-DVC property due to some type of computer problem with the non-DVC properties. Do any of you know anything about that? We're going to call member services tomorrow to reschedule our trip as a DVC and I'll ask then but I was wondering if any of you had been told the same thing or knew of a way around this. Thanks for any help or insight you can give me!

Unfortunately you can't get the dining plan if you are staying at a Disney resort on points. You have to book a package unless you are staying in a DVC villa.

Are you sure there are no DVC rooms anywhere for your dates? You could always try waitlist. Or you could rent out some of your points and use the proceeds for a package through CRO and get the dining plan.

Anyway...Congratulations and WELCOME HOME!!!!!!!!!!! :thumbsup2

DVC members cannot get the dining plan when staying on points at DC hotels, only for DVC points stays.

If you are willing to bluff a little bit (or seriously reconsider the purchase), you could call your guide and tell him/her that since you already had a trip scheduled for December that you were hoping to change to a DVC trip and now can't, you are re-considering the purchase of the points. Ask him/her to look into it further and get back to you. The worst that can happen is that they get back to you and say nothing could be done. But it might be enough for a guide to make "things" happen.

I would waitlist for SSR and OKW for the time frame you need- They may have more rooms at SSR to put into inventory before you are going and you will be able to get in there. If you put your points into a different WDW property they become reservation points and you can't then use them for the DVC stays so I would hold off making that reservation other than at DVC. I think many people have said that while that time frame is very popular with DVC it can be slow at the rest of the resorts so you should be able to get something closer to you dates if the waitlist doesn't come through. Good luck and many happy years as DVC members.

Definitely call MS and discuss options for DVC properties in Dec, wait listing, possibly splitting your stay between two different properties, etc. Sounds like your guide was being negative. It's six months away and wait lists DO come through, expecially if you're flexible with which property and type of room. Heck, with the points needed for a regular Disney resort, you could get something really big at a DVC property.

Good luck, and welcome home!

Just make sure you don't commit points to a non-DVC resort if you plan on waitlisting. As soon as you use your points to book something in the Disney Collection they become classified as "Reservation Points" and can no longer be used for DVC resorts.

Get on the waitlist for all resorts. If you had a studio in mind, you might as well waitlist for both Studios and 1Bs. I suspect a DVC 1B will still cost less then using them at a non-DVC resort.
