New member--reservation question

Well I finally got my approval letter and we are officially DVC members
I already have a question though and I'm hoping someone can help. We are not due to close until June 7th, however DH will be home on leave in May and I thought a quick trip to HH might be a nice way to break in our new membership.

Am I able to use borrowed points to make a reservation for May since this year's points won't be available until June? I'm not sure if it's possible but thought it would be a fun trip to introduce my skeptical husband to DVC!

Not sure, but I think you have to have closed first. Ask your guide if there are development points open to you.

Was told the same that you have to close 1st. But you never know, if he is in the military they might make an exception. Can't hurt to ask.

Hi, We don't close until March but were able to use developers points on our vacation this January when my daughter ran in the Disney Marathon.

Thank you for the replies so far. Can someone explain what developer's points are to me? I'm not sure if that's the deal that I was offered when I put down my deposit, either developer's points or the $10 pp discount? I already chose the discount so I think I may be out of luck. It's a shame because he comes home just two weeks before we close...

I guess I'll give my guide a call to double check, can't hurt to ask!

I think you have the right idea about them, but I think that people are suggesting that DVC might "trade" you some of their developer points for some of yours that wont be available until AFTER you close.

Call them. All they can do is say its not possible (worst case)! Right?

When I purchased my points in SSR last August I was told that I could not close until March of 2005. At the time they were advertising a "free vacation" with purchase. I was given the same amount of developer points as I purchased. As I said, I used these points in January. I think it was to insure I received the full 50 years of my contract. It's possible this offer is no longer available. Sorry!

I would suggest posting on the Rent/Trade board. maybe someone would be willing to trade you some of their current points for some of your June points (or whatever use year they become active).

This may be especially true for the several posts I have seen where they bought a resale and the points expire in the next couple months (they can't bank them).
