New member--Questions about borrowing

Hi everyone, I apologize if this exact question has been addressed, but I want to be totally sure of the situation before I make this reservation. We are thinking about booking a stay for January 2013, but it would be fully with points borrowed from our use year that begins in September of 2013. Because of upcoming life events, we can't go back to the World until early 2015 so we are planning accordingly. If I book for next January on borrowed points, what happens to the points if I cancel or change the dates? Do they go back to the original use year or do I need to use them by a certain point?

When you bank or borrow, the points are irreversibly changed into the UY that you moved them into. They will expire at the end of the new UY.

Ok, thanks for the clarification. So I could still use them for a reservation until 8/31/13 if I needed to cancel, and if I didn't they would expire. This is the info I needed...Thanks!

Yes, that is correct. Stated another way - If you borrow points from your 2013 use year to take a vacation that falls within your 2012 use year and then cancel it, the borrowed points expire on 9/1/2013. The last night for which you could use those borrowed points would be 8/31/2013.
