I just bought 220 at SSR yesterday!! I would like some help with a question I have. If I want to stay at 3BR OKW in June 07,should I make a ressie at SSr at the 11 month mark to make sure I get a room. I would then cancel the SSR ressie if I was able to get OKW at the 7 month. If I couldnt get OKW at least I would still have a room in a DVC. How would canceling affect my points?

Okay, first of all, your chances of getting a GV anywhere at seven months are probably slim...but you never know.

If you will definitely need a 3 BR, then reserving at SSR in the 11 month window is a must. And I'd do that early in the 11 month window, because you won't be the only SSRer looking for a GV.

When you do that, the points for that reservation will no longer be available -- they will be encumbered.

If you check OKW availability at 7 months and find it available, be SURE you have MS cancel the SSR ressie first. If you don't, you might run out of points and they would have to borrow from your subsequent use year.

If you cancel, the effect depends on when you canceled. If you cancel prior to 31 days from your scheduled arrival, you would be able to bank 100% of your points if you choose, because your 100% banking deadline is the end of May.

However, if you canceled within 30 days of arrival, your points would go into holding account, and I do not believe they would be bankable, even if you were still within your banking deadline. (I may be wrong about that.) Holding account means that you can only use those points to book reservations 60 days out. That's a pretty serious penalty and one you should try to avoid.

When you cancel the SSR reservation (assume you will make that for a 3 bedroom as well), the points are returned to your account with the same status they had just before the reservation was made. If you used banked points to make the reservation, they go back into your acocunt with banked status. Same thing for current year points and any borrowed points. When you make the reservation for the OKW 3 bedroom, be sure to tell the CM to use up any banked or borrwoed points before using any of the current use year points. That's because the banked and borrowed points will expire at the end of your use year (11/30/2007) if they are not used. Any extra current use year points still in your account after the OKW reservation is made can be banked into your 2007 use year (12/1/2007 - 11/30/2008) if you have no plans to use them before 11/30/2007.

The OKW 3 bedrooms are popular - hope you find availability for your dates when you call at 7 months.

Best wishes -

P.S. I assumed you would make the OKW reservation at 7 months and the SSR reservation at 11 months and would cancel the SSR reservation if you find availability for OKW at 7 months. Since the cancellation for the SSR reservation would be well before the 31 day mark, no need to worry about the holding account issue (unless you are planning to waitlist by individual day. I wouldn't recommend that unless you are willing to move back and forth if the waitlist doesn't work).
