New member needs help!

I just bought into Saratoga Springs and want to go in August. I would like to buy 20 more points to use for our trip instead of borrowing from next years stash.

Is this possible? Do I need to buy them from someone with Saratoga as a home base?

If you are looking to rent 20 points for the trip then your best place to post is on the rent/trade board

If you want to buy additional points from DVC, the minimum for cash is 25 points and 50 points for finance

Do you really mean to purchase more points? That's an add on and you get those points again every year. If you currently have 200 points and purchase 20 more, than you own 220 points, every year.

Or did you just want 20 more points one time? Just for that specific vacation? In that case you should just borrow them from the following use year.

If it is just one time, and you don't want to borrow, then your only other option is to rent them from a DVC member and have them transferred into your account. That way you have 20 additional points for that one year only. Renting is a one time transaction. Another member 'rents' you 20 of their points to use for a specific vacation.

If you are planning to rent points and you want to make the SSR reservation before the 7 month window opens, yes, you must find a SSR owner. You can only use SSR points until the 7 month window opens.

If you can wait until 7 months (or less) ahead of departure to make the reservation, then it won't matter what resort the rented points come from.

If you're looking to go in August, then you're within the 7 month window and you can rent points from any DVC member, not just SSR owners.

If you were looking to go in, say, January of next year, that would have been more than 7 months but less than 11 months, so you could have rented from another SSR member, but points from other resorts wouldn't have helped you.
