This is my first attempt at posting questions on message boards so feel free to tell me if I am doing this wrong but .......

My family had our first holiday in florida last May (staying off site) and are going again this May. Last year in MK we stayed late for the "Wishes" but it was a terrible crush getting on the boat back to the car, in fact we got the last boat of the night. This year we would like to stay again for "wishes" but wonder if we were to miss the last boat - how would we get to the car?

Any advice would be much appreciated. :confused3

Welcome to the DIS. In answer to your question, take your time. The busses and boats run at least 1 hour after park closing. We often sit and get an ice cream, or shop. No need at all to battle that large ending crowd.

You can also take the monorail from MK to the parking lot. Just go to the right when leaving the park and you can follow the signs to the Ticket and Transportation monorail. These run for a few hours past closing.

My favorite memories of Disney were made walking down Main Street after the crowds had gone - it was so magical and you can really appreciate how beautiful the Magic Kingdom is at night. I know the first instinct (especially with little ones) is to rush to the exits, but if you possibly can, go slowly and enjoy a more leisurely retreat from the park. We haven't missed a bus or monorail yet! It's all about enjoying the experience. Hope you have a wonderful trip!

In the past we have always made a beeline for the boat/monorail and been in a massive crowd. This year we are going to follow my guidebook's advice and go and get an icecream or something. The shops are still open for about an hour afterwards.

Just wanted to welcome you Tink, and let you know you did just fine with your first question post!

I agree with everyone elses ideas :)

Great Ideas. Because my family and I were almost ran over from the stampede. My son was so fustrated by almost being trampled by grown-ups. :(

Next time we will just get ice cream and shop.

By the way, Welcome to DIS.
And that was a great question.
I was there with a good friend of mine last week and she wondered he same thing. How would we get back?

And if you wait until after closing and watch the castle...you might get to see the Kiss Goodnight!!!

Never worry at Disney about missing the last boat ...security people abound and they will find a way to get you where you need to go.

Great question! Welcome to the DIS!

Welcome!!

We took the monorail back to epcot thinking we could walk thru to get to our hotel...low and behold...we couldn't. There were extra buses with "special" in the front window and they were great and took us back to the Boardwalk villas. Never feel like you will be stuck somewhere!! This is why I love the magic of Disney....

What's the "kiss goodnight"?

::MickeyMo

Yes, what is the kiss goodnight?

tinkintraining - i noticed you are from Mansfield in the UK - so am i!! :flower:
Thats if you mean Mansfield near Nottingham.
'Its a small world after all' (humming the tune to myself!!) :goodvibes

You are never stranded at WDW. Seven of us had a long leisurely dinner at Ohana back in February. Lo and behold, by the time we finished eating, drinking, talking and basically having a great time, there was no transportation to get back to Old Key West. I went to guest services to get a cab. They pulled a white van around and gave us complimentary shuttle service and let us off right at our room. (Of course, that driver got a really good tip!)

Even if we would have needed to ride by cab, the price from a park to resort isn't bad at all. I had a conference at the Hilton that week, and rather than drive there each morning, I chose a cab, which was $8 each way. Be sure to have guest services get the cab for you though so you get a reputable one!

tinkintraining, welcome to the dis boards, everyone is so friendly & the info, help & advice you get here is invaluable & has really added enjoyment to my trips by doing things i would never have known about! :sunny:
I,ve been on this site a while now & theres no such thing as a 'wrong' question & i've made some very good friends & even got to meet some of them on our disney cruise last year. :flower:
May i ask where abouts in Mansfield are you? I'm originally from Forest Town but have now moved to Sutton.

I just watched the Goodnight VIdeo from WDW. I sat here and cried like a 3 year old as soon as the music began. Haven't done that in front of the computer since I found a video of a grown up Donny Osmond singing "Go Away Little GIrl!"

Anyway.........once my family and I went to the late HoopDeeDoo and the bus took us back to TTC. And left. It was deserted. ANd we were wondering if we'd be sleeping on a bench that night. FINALLY a security guard came around the corner, called a bus for us and we got back to the PO. In the end we weren't stranded. But for about an hour we really thought we were!
