Ok, now heck I am not one for being a regular poster but, when I see something like this it simply cracks me up. Disney, the Grandfather of ALL the tiny little subsidiaries, DVC being but a cousin, cutting costs by "Issueing" with great hoopla our "new" Member Cards. A sticker that goes over the expiration date?!

Come on Gramps, I love you dearly, talk to the Family. If you can issue new room keys as often as one can loose them, could you have a new membership card made for all these loyal patrons of the empire?

Has anyone else rec'd their NEW cards yet. :p

Sorry, I forgot to mention, the New card is a little white sticker that covers your expriation Date on the old one and says "VALID".

I am really an positive person ya know............:D

Tom and Jen - We rec'd our "cards" in yesterday's mail here in St. Louis. I thought it was a bit odd that it was a sticker but imagine my surprise when I turned my card over and there was no expiration date! I checked my wife's card and it didn't have one either. Don't know if we slipped thorugh the cracks or not but I don't ever remember seeing or having an expiration date on the card. But by golly the "VALID" sticker is now in place!:D

This is not the first time we've had the sticker update to the cards. I don't even know why there's an expiration anyway other than if someone sells. I've got so many cards, many with no expiration on them anyway.

We just got new cards with the raised numbers and letters about three months ago. No expiration date. Haven't gotten the stickers yet...

I guess that I'm going to have to call our guide to get new cards. When we bought an add on in May we asked our guide if we could get new cards, she said no problem. Then the guy that went over the paperwork with us said that everyone was getting new cards this fall. So we told our guide not to bother, we could wait till the fall. Now I'm finding out that we are only getting stickers. Our cards are nearly 7 years old and you can't read the numbers on them anymore. If I don't have my paperwork handy when I call MS they have to take the time to look us up. I know it isn't that big a deal, but it does take up MS's valuable time. Oh well, we needed to call her anyway. My sister and BIL bought while we were there in May and we haven't received our referral letter yet. Thanks for the heads up on the stickers. At least I can take care of both issues at the same time.

If I had to guess this has to do with re-selling. It's cheaper to give you a sticker to confirm that you are entitled to DVC benefits than it is to issue a new card. Bear in mind that the card cost would come out of your dues.

I would hope that means that DVC has negotiated some deals that we can use without a DVC stay...because otherwise whats the point? You'd need a hotel key that said member anyway to get the benefits.

There are alredy deals you can get without a DVC stay. Things like the DS discount, WDW valet parking (even if not staying at a DVC), other discounts at WDW. Granted, only the DS discount is not at WDW. The specials on the concierge collection probably don't require the card since they would be set up through MS.

You mention having to do with a re-sale? My wife and I purchased direct in 98 and our cards came with an expiration date. I just don't get it, if you can check in and have a room card made up, you would think it would be just as easy to have a DVC card made up the same way.

We bought in May 2002 resale. Just got our (valid stickers) on Wed 10-2 for our cards that have no expiration date on them. Does the cost of sending this stickers out come from our dues? If so maybe I'll just use all of them on our cards so we can say that mailing them wasn't a waste of money. Also if I use more than 1 sticker does that mean I'm more VALID than others?

I would think IMHO this was a general mailing to all members because if they had to check all membership apps and what kind of card they got that would take a lot of time and money (I think)

:bounce: :bounce: DISNEY FOREVER :smooth: :Pinkbounc :jester:

DVC expenses are our expenses, so if they save money it is a cost reduction for DVC members. I am sure there are some members that will say they are waisting money if they sent out new cards.
To paraphrase another saying:
You can please some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time.

ralphd;) ;) ;) ;)

It's nice to see my Dues at work. About 1800.00 a year for a "Valid Sticker" Gimmie a break!!

I bought reseale about a year ago and my cards don't have an expiration date on them. Now I know the cost of new cards or these stickers comes out of our pockets but you've got to be kidding. We have invested thousands of dollars and pay hundreds or thousands of dollars each year for maintenance fees. This is an investment I'm proud of and now I've got the "valid" sticker to prove it.

I wuz just guessing using the following logic...if I sell my points I'll still have my cards...meaning I can still get discounts...the only way to stop me on my fiendish pursuit of inappropriate discounts is to provide a dated sticker that says I'm valid!!!

Otherwise...I really don't see the point...in fact given the scenario above I still don't see the point! The only way this can make sense at all is if you can get some serious discounts using the card...discounts many members would want to use.

There are so few discounts available to previous members that it doesn't seem reasonable to worry about. It would seem DVC agrees since they have given us cards without expirations and the stickers don't have an expiration either.

I have been a member since Oct 2002. My cards have never had any expiration date and I never knew one existed. It would be more appropriate for DVC to have its stores validate members numbers by computer or issue all members a pin number rather than engage in a half hearted attempt to pass out stickers that are just an aggravation. I think their grand plan will become unglued quickly ....
