I just wanted to chime in on the subject of multiple threads covering the same exact topics...
Sometimes multiple threads on a topic are completely unnecessary and they do clutter the board, as well as make it confusing for people to know which thread to go to (to chat/discuss/learn). Sometimes people will see 10 different threads on a single topic and get so confused that they, in turn, end up starting yet another thread because they didn't know which one to turn to for answers!

A noteworthy example of this was World of Color. When that debuted, the threads about it were plentiful!
Sometimes people accidentally start a new thread (or two or three) because they didn't see the original thread - it was an oversight. That happened recently with the "Limited Time Magic" announcement from the Disney Parks Blog. I started a thread about it, not having seen the first two threads about it when I posted.
Sometimes there are threads that all relate to the same main topic, but possibly have a different slant or a different sort of sub-topic (for example, there's the main subject of Limited Time Magic, and then there may end up being several different threads about the different themes involved in it when 2013 hits).
It does get a bit frustrating to see lot of different threads pop up that could basically all be condensed down to a couple of threads. But...we try to use our best judgment and discretion about which ones really need to be merged and which ones can stay as-is.
If I see threads that are literally covering the exact same topic or asking identical questions and there is no real difference, I will just merge the threads together. If I see that something has a bit of a different 'angle' to the conversation/thread, I will probably leave it alone. If a new thread pops up about a topic that was covered in an old thread that hasn't been active in a month, chances are we'd let the new thread stay as is because the old thread has been inactive.
So basically, I think we (the mods) deal with it on kind of a 'case-by-case basis.' Sometimes it's necessary to merge/delete threads. Sometimes it's not.
I hope that helps shed a little light on the 'multiple threads/same subject' issue for everyone.
