OK........how are they going to do this?, since it is my understanding Ms Travers swore no more movies, especially with Americans and more especially Disney.....no.........no way!

I thought this was even in her will.

What am I missing here?

Breaking: Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda to star in Mary Poppins Returns.

Hold on to your umbrellas folks, have we got some news for you! The 1964 classic, Mary Poppins, will be getting a sequel titled Mary Poppins Returns on December 25, 2018. Emily Blunt (Into the Woods) and Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton, In the Heights) are set to star in the film directed by Rob Marshall (director of Into the Woods). The screenplay, which will be based on The Mary Poppins stories by P.L. Travers, will be written by David Magee (Life of Pi).

Blunt has been cast as Mary Poppins, while Miranda will be playing a brand new character named Jack, who is described as a street lamplighter. The story is set to take place in Depression-era London, and will follow a now-grown Jane and Michael Banks, who, along with Michael’s three children, are visited by their old nanny Mary Poppins after a personal loss. Poppins will once again use her unique powers to help the family “rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives.”

“I am truly humbled and honored to be asked by Disney to bring P.L. Travers’ further adventures to the screen. The iconic original film means so much to me personally, and I look forward to creating an original movie musical that can bring Mary Poppins, and her message that childlike wonder can be found in even the most challenging of times, to a whole new generation,” says Marshall.

We can’t wait to hear more!

The movie was announced quite some time ago we just now have a title and actors. I'm actually excited for the possibilities.

I imagine her estate okayed them using the character. Just because you have it in your will that you don't want something to happen your estate can usually over ride that. Happens all the time. P.L. Travers has been dead for 20 years so I imagine her estate can now do whatever they want.

Pretty much. The dead have very few legal rights.

Miranda is amazingly talented. Amazingly talented. But he's mostly a rapper and a writer -- he's not a great singer. I'm curious how that would play out in depression-era London.

Maybe Disney should scrap this and produce, I don't know, maybe Hamilton instead? Please?

I'd rather they just think up something new, rather than keep doing remakes and sequels.

Well see you learn something every day........I did not think an estate could just dismiss the Will and do what they wanted. Ms. Travers, even her own family and friends said she was very hard to get along with and could be down right nasty. Though she did mellow out some after Mary Poppins the movie made her quite comfortable financially wise, still was determined to never again let Americans or Disney near Mary Poppins.

You have a point, and Disney does of course buy other properties now and then like Star War. but unlike Uni that does not develop anything new(except Jurassic Park) and just buys other properties. The recent Disney remakes and sequels is moving from animation to live action.

Then add, the many things of recent years Disney has developed (some together with Pixar, which is Disney)..... off the top of the head..........Cars,Toy story, Planes, Inside out, Brave, Tangled, The Princess an the Frog, Dinosaurs, Frozen, Arial, Zootopia, Big Hero, Monster University, Nemo, Pirates, Wall-e, Bolt, Ratoille, Santa Claus films, ETC, etc, etc,

Universal bought the use of Harry Potter and through Comcast DreamWorks. Disney bought Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and Muppets. It looks like they both buy IP's and develop some things themselves.

You will want to add to the UNI list Marvel, Simpsons, which with Harry potter is the bulk of the parks. The Author of the HP stuff was supervising the park attractions. The Marvel characters are simple coasters with screen, no real development there. The Simpson is small toon town type thing, again no real development. I don't know who they brought KK from as the orginial was made by MGM.

So your left with the old Jurassic Park and the alian go home attractions.

Disney, The use of Marvel and Star Wars is just starting. The Muppets is what a 1 park attraction?

Pixar is basically the same company as Disney, having worked together for years, on the same projects. However the list of projects Disney and Pixar, which is the same thing, is very long, very extensive. What I listed was very short part of it.

The MK, AK and Epcot is almost all Disney own attractions and IP. Hollywood Studio is indeed part other IPs, with the other attractions Disney design.

So when you look at the bigger picture, Uni is riding almost totally all on IPs. Disney develops their own attractions.

The Fast "whatever" movies are Universal properties and so is Despicable Me. Transformers is also now a part of the Universal set up since DreamWorks is involved. I don't count Marvel since they can't belong to two studios and I disagree strongly that there is no development in Spiderman. It's easily one of the best rides in central Florida. I also didn't realize that amount of time is what indicated a studio product.

I did forget about the Simpsons - my mistake. I didn't realize that this thread was going to be about attacking Universal so I'll bow out now.
