New Little Mermaid attraction (DCA)

Can somebody tell me more about the new Little Mermaid attraction at DCA? We were there last week and saw a large area boarded off, but no info on what was being done.

LMAUA will be a dark ride generally considered to be a "D Ticket" level. Not a top thrill ride but a quality ride on a par with Toy Story Mania.

The Radiator Springs Racers to open in 2012 is planned to be a top thril; ride "E Ticket".

I'm not sure if this will help (or if it was part of HydroGuy's link above), but this is a direct link to the Blue Sky Cellar video of the plans for the Little Mermaid ride. I like it because at least it gives me something to look at and not just a description.

I can't wait for the LMAUA! I think it is long, long overdue at DLR (didn't the movie come out in 1989 or something?) - and actually, it would probably be better suited for Disneyland than California Adventure, but I guess they just don't have the right location for it in DL.

If you happen to have the Little Mermaid DVD - One of the bonus features is about the Little Mermaid Ride that was never built. The computer animation and the concept drawings look very interesting. Mermaid ride on youtube

I am sure there are changes - but the DCA ride is a resurrection of that shelved idea.

I like in that old video how big some of the rooms are, it's a lot like POTC or the final room in Splash. In reality I don't think it will be like that just because of the show buildings medium size. I also like how the ride vehicle drops under the sea. I'm not sure how this will turn out. The show building does have a large cieling height but maybe not enough to tier the ride over itself.

I could though, see a load and unload area on the second level with the que underneath.

I'm also curious about the ride vehicles themsleves. In the drawing they show the clamobiles which is a omnimover system like in HM. But they use this in the finding nemo ride in Epcot so I don't see it being used in the MK version of LM so why in DCA?

Because the DCA version of the ride was imagined much before it was considered as a MK attraction. The DCA ride is the original, MK the afterthought.

Thanks for the second link. Geez! We move away from Disneyland and say good-bye to our annual passes, and they start adding new things and making some promising changes. Thank goodness we are close enough to make the drive to see all the new stuff. Can't wait to see it all!

This is exciting for me because I have 5 grandchildren and not only do I get to share some of my old favorites with them, now I get to enjoy new rides with them as well.
