New Lighthouse Point Website Launched by Disney Cruise Line Outlines Site Plans and More

Disney Cruise Line has launched a new informational website with details on its plans for the southern point of Eleuthera – Lighthouse Point in The Bahamas.

As we’ve previously reported, Lighthouse Point is going to be developed as a second private island location that Disney Cruise Line passengers will experience during their cruise.

The new website is divided into the following sections: Economic Opportunities, Environment, Culture, Community, Progress, News, and FAQs.

In the Progress section of the site, Disney has shared an illustration of their plans for Lighthouse Point which includes an Adventure Camp with trails and lookout towers, pedestrian nature trails and even a Spa and Wellness area. The illustration also shows a North Family Beach and an East Family Beach along with South Beach Cabanas which will overlook the ship’s berth.

The design for Lighthouse Point is inspired by the natural environment and rooted in the culture of Eleuthera and The Bahamas more broadly.

Disney has made a commitment to work with the Access Accelerator Small Business Development Centre who will aid in the development and funding of programs that will provide support for Bahamian enterprises seeking to do business at Lighthouse Point.

Construction will begin on the site once the Environmental Impact Assessment and Environmental Management Plan are accepted by the government, public consultation has occurred, and all other necessary government permits and approvals have been granted.

Hiring for operational roles is expected to begin in 2022 and the expected completion of the area is said to be 2022 or 2023.

How much you wanna bet that this strip is at least tentatively earmarked (yes, I said it) for DVC beachfront cabanas?

It looks like the actual beach part is thinner on that side, so that might be why they are not planning to develop it as of yet.

Adventure camp sounds nice!

I do worry this looks a little bit spread out, particularly when you factor that the beach closest to the ship is all cabanas. Hard to tell distances but I really hope it is not unwalkable to get from the ship to the beach.

You’re right - it is thinner. But they wouldn’t need a particularly deep beachline to accommodate a limited number of people in cabanas, would they? At least, not as deep as they need to handle ship crowds.

They’ve been floating the idea of a Bahamian DVC resort in surveys over the last year. I’d be amazed if there wasn’t at least some preliminary planning being done for that stretch of beach.

The site says: Additionally, full access to the site and its amenities will be provided to citizens and residents of The Bahamas for non-commercial purposes.

Does this mean that guests and locals will share the beaches and facilities on cruise ship days? Sounds odd. It seems from the map that there is a separation.

I'd be interested in how they define "full access". True full access to everything? Bathrooms, dining locations, kids' club, spa, etc.?

I got the same impression as you - that there's a demarcation of some kind up there by "North Beach".

It looks like the tram will go up to the mooring pier about midships and an optional walking path along the bridge to the pier.

Also wondering if this is some sort of water slide in the Adventure Camp area.

interesting. One tram to take you as far as the security center and one tram to take you the rest of the way.
Not sure about that but that bridge is at least 3/4 of a mile judging by the scale of the Disney ship pictured. The Dream is 1,115 ft and the bridge looks to be about 3 times that length. I think this distance with small kids and some adults with mobility issues you would need some sort of transportation to land.

it just looks like a turnaround just before security and a turnaround just after security. This would make sense as everyone would need to pass through security just like CC

Not sure if you're agreeing or not but I was just saying there is a turnaround close to the ship that resembles a tram turnaround on Castaway Cay.
