We're considering a new laptop but are prepared to wait until the right specification and price (for us) is available. However, I noticed QVC are doing a TSV on Dell laptops so, out of interest, I decided to do a "build" on the Dell website. My "build" came out to £726.98 compared to the TSV price of £732.96, so I'm wondering what I have missed. I know TSVs are usually configured so that you can't do an exact match, but the only difference I could find between "mine" and the TSV model is that "my" model has a larger HD.

I've included:

the 4 year back-up (£139 - which, the way, I wouldn't purchase)
McAfee 15 months (£24.99)
Corded mouse (£13.98)

The only "plus" on the QVC model is the "4 easy payments".

As I say, this is only out of interest, the TSV is below the spec I would want (I require 2.2ghz Intel chip and a dedicated graphics card - and I'm prepared to wait a few months and save instead of easy payments:thumbsup2 ).

I think it's always the way with Dell TSVs, Richard. It's definitely a sweet easy-pay deal which will swing it for many folk but still overpriced IMO - when there are some fab offers out there on the internet. I notice it also has free delivery, is this true on the Dell website?

Yes, Dell are offering this at the moment.

If you wait for the "right spec/price" you will never buy one :)

I would save your £24.99 and forget McAfee - get AVG for free :)

Also try this site for laptops:

http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/

I already have the right spec - just waiting for it to become the right price;) .

Also, I wouldn't take the McAfee. With BT total Broadband I get the Norton Suite included. We use AVG on the old laptop as Norton makes it so slow that it is unusable.:coffee: :coffee: :coffee:

Just spoken to Customer Services at QVC. There is a simple and obvious get-out clause. They acknowledged "my" build BUT the TSV laptop was created especially for QVC and the quotes on the TV along the lines of "over £100 cheaper than on the Dell website" and "this is less than I can get it for with my company discount" are based on the price Dell will be charging for this specification when they do put it on their website - ie when the current free p & p (£58) and the current free colour and webcam (approx £100) comes to an end.

I've just orderd a new dell laptop the other day from the dell web site
Have been looking around for a while
the one I ordered had € 180 euro off plus free colour and web cam
plus I got another extra 10% off from a code I got from a email they sent me
waiting hard now on the postman
PM me if you need the code

Anyone buying Dell, check out their outlet store on Ebay before buying. They are scratched (last 2 laptops I bought were unmarked) but come with full warranty.
I bought my Desktop PC (mark on case but in cupboard so no problem) from there 2 weeks ago. This was spec of what I got for £250+£23.50 del 2.66Gh Core 2 Duo, 2024Mb Mem, 320Gb HD , Mouse and Keyboard, windows XP. plus more.
Added a 19" Samsung widescreen and total cost under £400, similar build on Dell was around £600+ £60 Del.

Link to recently sold laptops from £271 and 2nd link desktops from £83

McAfee is a nightmare, conflicts with my wireless network plus more problems, glad it was a free trial and I didn't pay for it.

If you are buying Direct from Dell buy it thru a cashback site like rpoints where they give 2.5% (5% if you do highest cashback claim to match Quidco) or Quidco give 5% but I prefer rpoints.

No problem. If you do decide to buy from their outlet just do a little research, look at same spec machines sold recently etc. as some sell for way over price. I couldn't build for the price I paid.
Also paid with Virgin Amex so got 273 Virgin airmiles added also, not much but they all add up.:)
