New land to be announced at Magic Kingdom (Not a joke)

Isn't the 100 Acre Woods playground area built where 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea was?
The playground is built on a very small section of the 20,000 Leagues area -- just the area that used to be the queue I believe.

It makes no sense for Disney to make a large addition to the one park that is already always crowded. Just my opinion though.
pirate:
Their maximum capacity is based on the number of attractions that are operating. Increasing the number of attractions would increase the capacity and reduce the posibility of having to limit entry.

And on the days when they're not near capacity, spreading the people who are in the park into more attractions makes the lines shorter at all attractions.

Huh?

What significance does maximum capacity have? The MK is crowded all of the time. The other Parks have lulls, some have many lulls. Why would Disney want to consider making their best, most attended park busier when it would make so much more sense to attempt to up the level of success at the other venues?
pirate:

The timing makes sense and the fact that this is simply importing a current design makes it more believable. It is also an area desperate for a make-over. This is only 3 weeks away. If half the things that were rumored to be announced on OCtober 2 comes true, it will be a good day.

Yes. Also the land behind the RR tracks are never to be built on. Walt Disney designated that to stay "wild" so that all future guests would know what FL use to look like. They told us that again on the train tour last June.
That's total spin. Large portions of WDW's land are not buildable due to wetlands restrictions; doesn't have anything to do with a desire to show guests what undeveloped FL looked like.

Don't you think this would be better served adjacent to the new Nemo show in DAK. It would fit there literally and figuratively. Plus, add a new area to DAK which needs some more things to do. You could throw in some aquariums and have yourself a new land.

I posted my info on another Disney Discussion Board and this was brought up by another poster.....See Page 481 of Len Testas Unofficial Guide to WDW ....."Dont be too surprised to see Ariels Grotto undergo a growth Spurt in the Next few years and emergr as a Full Blown Attraction.....

Just thought I let you know there are more rumbelings about this than just me>>>>> :woohoo:

I think maximum capacity needs to factor in egress considerations. Epcot, for example, can readily be expanded with little concern in that regard, since the pathways are so wide. MK, by comparison, has much narrower pathways, and therefore expansion must be restricted as a result. Having said that, there already was an attraction there, which would be replaced by this rumored expansion. Flipping the coin again, though, the old attraction was relatively low-capacity, so replacing it with a high capacity attraction could be problematic.

I think it would be awesome to add some new attractions at MK. We travel in the off season, so find MK not very crowded, except in FL.

Since Little Mermaid is based on a movie, you would think they would do some expansion at MGM (the show is already there) and help to make this park a little more kid-friendly (they have the Muppets). I love MGM :love: , but that's because I love thrill rides :scared1: , but can see where this park isn't as thrilling for the kids because of the limited attractions for little ones.

Just my 2 cents on the whole issue. We'll just have to wait and see. I'll have to put in a call to my "Disney Contact" for the latest gossip.

If the reference is to Walt Disney himself, I suspect they were stretching the truth just a bit. There was no clear development plan in place at the time of Walt's death.

In fact, if Walt had had more influence on the project, "Walt Disney World" probably wouldn't even remotely resemble what we see today. IIRC, his primary intention for the property was to build his EPCOT--the EPCOT represented by the model city which is viewable from the Tomorrowland Transit Authority.

Walt saw those acres of Florida swampland as the future home to his Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow. But Walt's vision was far from realized when he passed.

Left with little guidance, Roy O. and Disney management decided that Florida's first destination would be the Magic Kingdom, and that it would be a virtual carbon copy of Disneyland.

That issue aside, that seems like a silly reason to forego further expansion of the Magic Kingdom. There are still THOUSANDS of undeveloped acres at WDW. To think that anyone would need that patch of trees behind Toontown as proof of being in Florida is a bit ludicrous.

>>> 6 family friendly attractions
Could it be a hokey "Arielland" ordinary amusement park within a theme park much like Dinoland is at Animal Kingdom?

>>> what Florida looked like
More simplistically, perhaps Walt wanted the view from his railroad to show wide open spaces instead of nearby thickets that hid backstage areas from view.

If its the Tokyo Disney thing, it looks very cool w/ above and under the sea attractions. Although that may be difficult to pull off with FL's water table.

I agree with the previous poster that I would rather see the effort go into DAK but I won't complain

Either way I be there on Oct 1st and will be staying at the Contemporary. If there are any MAJOR announcements I will post here on the Rumors board that day.

Based on what is on Tokyo Disney's Website I don't see anything that is under the sea ie underwater. Looks like ordinary amusement park rides to me.

Keep in mind that the Magic Kingdom is on the second floor. The utilidores are actually the first floor, not the basement. What looks like ground level at the Magic Kingdom to a visitor is, like many other things at Disney, an illusion.

This sounds great and all (would love to see his happen) but isn't 2008 a little too soon to come up with a whole new land. Also, why invest such a huge chunk on $ at MK when AK needs a lot more help (ride-wise). In fact MGM could use a little love too. JMHO.

The OP said, "a new 'land' (sort of)" -- not "a new land".

Very true, but I don't know if you can build two levels of attractions on top of that water table.
