New Kona Cafe menu

I'm not sure if this has been posted before, but we were at Kona Cafe last week and they had a new menu. I'm not too sure how "new" is new, but I took a photo of the menu to post here.

And the Kiluea Torte has been revamped - it's a chocolate chip cookie outside now. You can correct me if I'm wrong, but from all of the photos I've seen of it in the past here on the DIS it's been chocolate outside. Here's a photo.

Wow! I'd read a review/complaint about the change to the kiluea torte, but that looks *wonderful* to me. The old version was just too much chocolate for me, but I'm thinking I'll have to try that new version!

I agree - I've never really liked molten lava cakes for this very reason (though I'm normally a pretty big chocolate lover). This looks yummy

Though my sympathies go out to the fans. I know how much it stinks to have a favorite changed or removed (though it's not nearly as traumatic as when the perfect lipstick color is discontinued )

Hi Quiltymom, thanks so much for posting! I missed the other thread on this topic, I'm glad you started this one. The Kiluea Torte looks amazing! What entrees did you try- do you have any recommendations??

We have dinner ADRs for 1900 Park Fare and they seem to be getting some unfavorable reviews lately. The new Kona menu has some positive changes for us, we may just have to change ADRs.

Now see I had already decided I wanted the macademia nut dessert but the new Kileaua torte looks so good.... Maybe I can convince DH to order it....

I'll be writing about this in my food trip report, so ya'll are getting a sneak preveiw! I'll have more details on the TR.

DH & I ordered the Tuna Oscar and the Bamboo Steamed Ono. The Tuna Oscar was fantastic. I almost ate all of it before we switched plates. The tuna was tender and just melted when you ate it. I liked the fried green tomato touch, too. They weren't too greasy.

The Ono was your basic fish, rice & veggie dish. It was also very good, but after eating the Tuna Oscar it seemed rather bland. So, if you like basic food that hasn't been mucked around with a lot, this is the dish for you.

I had the shrimp and coconut curry soup. I polished off every drop of it, it was so yummy!

I got the Kileaua Torte, but I'm one of those who wished it hadn't been changed. I'm a committed chocoholic who is a strong believer that you can never have too much chocolate in a dessert.

DH got the Macadamia Nut Torte. He finished the whole thing and decided that since we were on our way to MNSSHP, he'd just start the evening on a sugar high.

And if you are on the DDP, a Virgin Pina Colada counts as your beverage. This was the best VPC that I have ever had. I got it without the rum so the kids could enjoy it, too.

WOW that looks very good I have never been to Kona but after looking at your food photos I think we might have to try it. Thanks for sharing.

I have never liked chocolate lava cakes either even though I am a "chocoholic" when it comes to desserts. Last time at Kona I had the creme brulee for this reason and really enjoyed it.

Thank you so much for the review & pics. We generally make a habit of trying new places and don't generally revisit Disney restaurants, but DS enjoyed Kona so much last trip that he requested we go back for his birthday dinner in January, and I'm really looking forward to that tuna! It looks as good as the menu description sounds.

We had ADR for 1900 Park Fare and I just switched to Kona Cafe a few days ago. This menu looks great to me - can't wait to try it

I'll have to say that we haven't been to 1900 Park Fare since they reopened, but I was happy with their food before.

That said, the food at Kona far surpassed that of 1900. Both of us agreed on that. Kona is one of our top three restaurants at WDW, the other two being Boma and Le Cellier.

Kona is plated and not a buffet, if that makes a difference to you. I could've lived on the bread alone. It was sheer gastronomic heaven!

Ono is a fantastic mild fish, very similar to Mahi, albeit a bit more firm-fleshed. Honestly, I'm not surprised to see Mahi go. It has become a pedestrian restaurant staple, much like the molten chocolate lava cake, which was hot and upscale maybe 10 years ago. Now you can find it at your neighborhood TGIFriday's. The chocolate chip cookie is a nice twist on the original.
