New kitty advice

We just adopted a 2 month kitten from a rescue yesterday
She was just spayed bingo the morning but her and about 10 other kittens were available for adoption late afternoon.
Yesterday she was a real spitfire. Just into everything as all new kittens do.
They told us to watch her for different issues.
One was being tired. Which she is today. When I took her out of her room this morning she still was a spitfire but now it’s late afternoon and she’s been sleeping most of her.
We’ll call the vet in the morning but just maybe I’m looking tomput my mind at ease.
She’s been eating good and using the box with no issues

Kittens sleep a LOT.

I sort figured that but since she was a spitfire yesterday I was a bit concerned. She must have slept good last night though cause I didn’t hear her at all

We brought two feral kittens in at about 2 months old. They'd be up and running for about an hour, maybe two, and then sleep for 4-6 hours. They're almost 7 months now, and still get nice, long naps in. Especially when they're having growth spurts. That takes a lot of sleep!

That does make me feel better. Besides she’s been playing hard now for a few hrs

One other question when can you usually give a new kitten the run of the house. When we have to go away we have the spare ready I’m set up for her.

We just found a kitty on the side of the road and she is around 6 weeks old. She sleeps alot.

I have a 7 months old kitten and she stays in my room when I’m not home. I’m not sure when or if I will let her roam the house when I’m not home to supervise. Plus I have a camera set up in my room to check in on her it alerts to movement and sound via a phone app so I can see what trouble she is getting into. Honestly she sleep in the window most of the day.

don't you hoooo-mans know what hard work goes into your proper training and care? just protecting you from the dangers of shoe strings, tissue boxes and a myriad of random household items is enough to exhaust any kitten

Hi Dznypal,
First off to say to you congratulations on your new kitty. What you need to know and understand is that when a new kitty arrives at your house she might cry and get tired easily because she misses her littermates and you may need to have her sleep with you so you can have a bond the first few days. But it's not something you need the vet to talk to and ask advice. As your kitty grows you might want to get her a pet bed but if you can't find a pet bed a jumbo sized pillow also works as a pet bed which is what my mom got for my grandmother's cat and it worked well. You can also buy your kitty pet toys or buy her some stuffed animals or if you have any old stuffed animals they are excellent sleeping companions for your kitty to calm her
Give your kitty lots of love and she will love you so much

Once you let her roam the house make sure that there’s nothing she can get into and she can’t get out of you may want to close off the laundry room cats like to get in there and get behind the machines and you’ll have a heck of a time getting them out especially when they’re so tiny
They like to get under the furniture they just like to find little nooks to hide in to take a nap or just to be left alone so just make sure that there’s no place she can get into mischief or get stuck in that could be a problem speaking from experience here I took two kittens and they found all kinds of places to get into things
And just take a good look at your house and make sure you have nothing out like on display that you don’t mind getting broke and don’t think well that’s up too high the cat won’t be able to get at it yes they will yes yes they will even young cats

We foster failed with two 4wo kittens a few months ago. When we first got them, we had a mesh enclosure for them, to keep them contained and protected from our older cats. We gradually let them out more and more, finally taking it down when they were ~10 weeks or so.

Kittens are trouble! Wherever I go, I get more help than I can stand! They have two speeds, maniacal and sleeping.

A couple other thoughts: cats like to be up high. Consider a cat tower, if you have room. Or they might prefer the top of the fridge, on top of cabinets, whatever.

We don't bother with cat beds. We have plenty of comfy places. They love the fleece blankets on the couch.

One of their favorite toys is a plastic spring. I'm afraid to move the furniture, I'm going to find a couple dozen that have mysteriously gotten under there! These are really inexpensive. Another popular toy is the crinkly foil balls--they make a fun noise when you bat at them. But, don't be afraid to toss down a toilet paper tube or empty paper bag and watch the fun.

Cats are also fascinated by water. I run the water just a bit in the upstairs tub--they play with this, giving me precious seconds to get into the shower.

If I have to discipline them--say, for climbing on the kitchen table, a spray bottle of water works well (and doesn't actually hurt them).
