My DH gave me a red Artisan mixer for my birthday.:thumbsup2 I have wanted one for years.

It came with a small book of recipes but was wondering what my friends on the DIS make in theirs? Anyone make bread dough?

I don't have any attachments yet for ice cream or pasta. Are those worth the money?

I am so excited, I can't wait to start using it!

bread is the best thing to make:thumbsup2 We made bread in ours 2-3 times a week in the US (still have not bought a 220volt one). I sure do miss it. It is the BEST kitchen toy ever:goodvibes Your hubby did well:thumbsup2

I've had the same kitchen aid for 9 years and it's the one kitchen appliance I couldn't do with out! (well other than a refrigerator and a stove)
I use it for too many things to list, but here are a few of my favorites!
Bread & Pizza dough (with the dough hook)
Marshmallows
Grinding meat (with the grinder attachment)
Slicing and grating veggies & cheese (with attachment)
Frosting (especially Swiss meringue buttercream)
Fondant
Whipped cream

Those are just some of the things I can think of that are much easier to do with a stand mixer than a hand held.

And of course all the obvious things like cookies and cakes!
Have fun with your kitchen aid! I love it when people get the impression that I put out some huge effort to make things like home made bread or fondants, when in truth I just dumped in some ingredients and let the machine do most of the work!

I love to make sausage balls in mine. It kills me to knead them by hand!

1 pound mild sausage
4 cups grated sharp cheddar
1 cup flour
1 cup Bisquick

Mix all until blended. Roll into 1 inch balls. Bake at 350 until brown. (Approx 20 minutes)

WHIPPED CREAM!!!!

And yes I am yelling! LOL

It also makes great mashed potatoes.

I'll take a cheesecake please. :goodvibes

I have an antique Sunbeam Mixmaster stand mixer from the 1940's I think. With original white glass bowl & manual. It was my grandmothers. I hate using it because I'm just afraid to burn out the motor. You can smell it straining when its something difficult to mix. But I'm still happy to have it. :)

Pic from the web.

This attachment would be fun! I remember my mom had a meat grinder attachment, but I guess grandmom didn't. Sadly, I don't have any attachments, just the mixing ones.

The potato peeler is so cool! That could come in handy!

There are companies on the web that will restore old mixers. My friend got one for free at a yard sale because it wasn't working (it was really old and super cool looking!). She found an a place online, sent it in, and they sent it back in perfect working order! Now she has this awesome one of a kind mixer, and it was cheaper than buying one new.
Just something to think about in case that motor ever does go out!

I think I need to eat lunch!

The marshmallow recipe I got is from the French Laundry cookbook, but I found it online.

There are other recipes that use egg whites and make a less dense marshmallow, but this recipe is a great starting point. Very easy, and people will be impressed.
You can add flavorings (like mint) other than vanilla, and you can melt chocolate, dip them, and then let them dry to make chocolate covered goodness!

This is the recipe for Swiss meringue buttercream I use. It's light, fluffy, and delicious! You just need to use good extracts! It also has to sit at room temp for a while after being refrigerated because it hardens (it's mostly butter).

This recipe tastes a lot like meringue buttercream, but it doesn't use eggs. The ingredients sound weird, but it tastes good.

Now I need lunch too!

I use my mixer for EVERYTHING! Meatloaf, meatballs, cakes, cookie dough, anything that has to be mixed. We did buy the ice cream attachment and it does make good ice cream. The oatmeal raisin ice cream from A Perfect Scoop is SOOOOO GOOD!! I can't make it very often because it is just too tempting.
