New June - Team Hakuna Matata!

Dave - Last 8 miler I did was back in December before my surgery and I ran it at an average pace of 9:57. I can't WAIT til I can get back up to a comfortable 8 miles. Once I start upping my miles from there I might hold back my pace a little. I'd like to run the Akron half at a pace of 11.

And to all that are wishing my thighs well...I'll just say this: Lumpy legs run in my family..at my thinnest in 2003 (5'7" and 124), I still had bad legs. I just assumed that when I started running, that the shape would change a bit. Hasn't happened yet no matter how many squats, leg lifts or miles ran. Oh well.

OK..and here's something :offtopic: that I'd like to throw out there...can we have team shirts for the marathon? Like the normal green WISH shirts with a Hakuna Matata twist? I'm really particular in my comfort level when I run..so I'm not sure about the actual marathon itself but for the dinner, pre-race, post-race, etc.

How many of you actually wear the WISH team shirt to run in for the actual marathon? They don't look comfy. :confused3

I'm open to suggestions on the shirt thing. I usually put windwalker on the back of my shirt, but the iron on letters don't stay.

I didn't have one to wear for the Minnie and I didn't think it would be a big deal but I missed out on a lot of the cheering etc. because no one recognized me as a WISH'er. I talked to some of the WISH'ers in May and they told me that the RR shirts are comfortable, although I think they run on the small side. I'm hoping there will be another order soon so that I can have one to wear in September :)

Dave the reason those letters don't stay is because you are going toooooo Fast. really that's it really.

If you notice my picture in the signature we are all wearing our names. Mark, the sign man and my DH made them. I would love for us to have our team and names on our stickers and they do stay on unless of course you get extremely wet. He used the strong stuff for us. They said:

It's all Nick's fault and our name.

Nick had one that said I'm Nick and it's all my fault. He's the one that suggested that whole race thing back in 1/31/07. BRAT.

I'm sure Mark would (at my pleading) make us name tags for my team and probably Hope's since she is a Hero. How many are we doing the

1/2 and or full?

Would we want our name (Denise) our screen name (wdw4us) or both?

We do have some time and I will broach this subject again if there is interest - let me know.

I was told that it's nice to have our name so that people can cheer us on and it did help ME during the race.

I'll try and add more name pictures so you can see. Nick's was on his pant leg.

Miranda after the race and wetting her hair and it's stayed on!

I like that Denise, only could it say it's all Panda Dave's fault:lmao:

I think I figured out my toe issue today. It started to hurt shortly after I started walking so I spent most of my 5 miler trying alot of different things...bend toes, hold for a minute, release; putting more pressure on big toe, etc...well at about 4.5 mi it finally stopped hurting. I did an extra 1/2 mi to be sure and was pain free. Even walking around now has be pain free!!!

Hi all!

I can't believe it's already June 11th! I've managed to get on line a few times, but only end up with time to read and never time to post. I sent Connie my time and hours from 5/28. Sorry if some if it won't count because it's too late.
Denise - Happy Birthday!
Bunny - I just registered for the WDW 1/2 - I'll be raising money for tourette's syndrome. They only have a $500 threshold. I should be able to manage that.
Scott - so funny about the goats. Monday night I was the town hall and the accountant was telling me her husband had just called in a panic saying all the animals were gone. Turns out she had taken them to her father's house to work on the grass with out almost 100 degree weather here. She forgot to leave a note for DH
Scott H - Love Jimmy Buffet! Some on my favorite convertible and boat music!
Best wishes to everyone else. I'm probably a little computer challenged, but find these "conversations" can take some getting used to. Maybe its also just getting to know the players - which I'm sure takes time and you guys may have the advantage of having actually met in person at some point!

So, for my training update highlights:
I particpated in a weekly running club thurs night race last week - did a 5K - finished last, but finished in 37.45 which was a little less than my first 5K I think. I was at the end of pack from the beginning, but still had heart rate skyrocket to 175 very early on. Pacing for a race must take practice. maybe more warming up would help too.

This past weekend, even with the hot temperatures, I went out Sun Am and did 5.78 miles in about 1.20. After warm up - I did 5 min run, 2 min walk and kept alternating that way and it felt really comfortable. Then DH dropped me off and I had to walk to the town hall which ended up being 1.95 miles - then 1/2 mile walk home - so an 8+ mile day. I was thrilled.

I started reading "Running for Mortals" which I got thru the library. I've ordered Marathons for Mortals, too. These authors seem more my speed that the first books I picked up which all started with the assumption that the starting point was a 10 minute mile - definitely not my speed:rotfl:

OK - So I've been on line over an hour so gotta go!

Have a great week. The hot weather finally broke here:yay:

Anne

Ok...LOVE the stickers!!

Anne - I don't believe we have met yet. I'm a newer member...name is Eva. I really want to get that book, well the marathon one. I love the author and I've read his column numerous times (as I am a slower runner and I love his "waddle on" theories)!! I too have seen way to many books that talk about running marathons at a pace of sub-8! :faint: I have a library less than 3 blocks from me and could very well get it there, however my ex-mother-in-law works there and she is truly scary. Let me know how the first one reads...I might just go ahead and order it from Amazon or something.

As for the training...I made it to the gym last night to do 3.5 miles on the track and some floor work. For one mile of my run I ran my version of speed work. I run really really fast on the straight-away of the 1/10 of a mile track then jog lightly around the bend. It is better on the ankles then trying to push it around I tight corner (or so I've read). I'm hoping to get my shorter distance speed up so my LSD runs will be easier at my desired pace of 11.

That's it for now..hope you all have a pleasant day! ::yes::

Good Morning team!

Miranda and I did 4 miles this morning at 5:35 am. It took us 55 min but she's not used to walking and is using a whole new set of muscles :)

It was FAB!

Last night didn't get to bed till 11PM so 4:41 came mighty quick. At least Iw as able to get a cup of coffee down before we left.

Off to the shower now, need to be presentable by 8am...it'll be a stretch!

denise

Yea I have that problem of looking presentable by work time also Denise. But I don't have to go to work till 12:30 so I have some extra time. I work accross from Abacrombie and Finch and they wear flip flops and shorts to work, I on the other hand wear a jacket and tie.

I'm resting my legs today from yesterday's LSD walk so I'll probably just do stretching and poor sprints.

Anne, welcome back princess.

Eva, I think a lot of John Bingham also, maybe he will join us for a beer at the boardwalk on the marathon weekend. We exchange mails some.

Have a super day y'all.

It was a windy morn, heck it always seems windy here, but I went for a run anyway, felt good as usuall. I try to get out out by 5:15 at the latest and then clen up for work. Lucky not to have much of a dress code except for court and other special events. Having some yogurt and Kashi fro breakfast here at my desk while the computers churn away. Already have in 38 hours this week.

Should be getting carpet in the South Basement bedroom, might mow the lawn tonight so we can go out fri after work, will put in the trim and hang the closet door this weekend.

Dave that would be totally KEWL if Bingham would join us.

Eva your comments about the ex MIL made me think of the secratary from Monsters Inc.

Denise, way to go and get out there, you guys Rock!!!!

Anne, JB is one of my favorite songsters, I relate tooo much. Several been there done that elements. Let us know about your WDW fund raising.

If ya like Jimmy Buffett, check out Eric Stone at , I think, boatsongs.com

Later Kiddies, It's a Jungle out there.

Good morning team! It's a "chilly" morning here :) Relatively speaking anyway ... I think the temperature would have been good for running but instead I had to come into work.

My arms are still sore from my Tuesday night work out. The day after my workouts with my PT, I usually stick to button shirts since lifting my arms is sometimes tricky. He finds that funny! Speaking of clothes... I noticed that since I started running this year, I'm tending to spend more on running/yoga clothing and gear than work clothing. Anyone else like that or am I the only one?

Anne - That's great! Can't wait to meet you in January - it seems so far away but I bet we'll be there in no time! Congrats on your first 5K :cheer2:

Have a great day everyone!! :goodvibes

I like that Denise, only could it say it's all Panda Dave's fault:lmao:

Erica:)

That's it blame it all on the Panda. Bad run/walk today, Panda's fault, ingrown nose hair, Panda, feeling a little punky, yep, Panda's fault.

Scott, I'll invite him for one of our small gatherings for some beverage and conversation, as long as he brings Jenny along.

Bunny, I feel your pain. I have been so spent at the end of a 5K that I had to get help to get my banana peeled.

I drove my route yesterday and it was 8.3 instead of 8 miles so my pace was 12:16 per mile and that's with the slower first warm up mile factored in. There are 4 serious hills on that route also. I'm pleased with that walk.

Today was just an hour of calistetics, stretching and pilates. I did all the ab work with weights.

Walk/run strong y'all.

Good Morning, Team

Over the top busy at work. Popping in for a quick hi! Hope everyone is doing well and training is going good.

Went to the cottage on the weekend. Very buggy (blackflies and mosquitos) and I didn't even run. Paid the price on last nights run by taking a couple days off. Just couldn't get into the groove. I'm finding the temps. also misleading. Doesn't seem that warm until a few minutes into the run. Humidity has found us again.

Have a great day....Sue

Good Morning Team!

Lots of folks posting today!!!

It has been windy here, yesterday afternoon we had gusts in excess of 60mph! Today is supposed to be worse!!! I did get an early walk in this morning with the dogs, but I went right after eating some cereal and before my coffee, and I never seem to be able to walk well before my coffee. I don't know if it is just because I did not give the cereal enough time to be digested, or that I really need the caffeine - but it was a slow walk, and I had to really push myself to do even the 3 miles.

I am currently waiting for carpet dude to show up - he just called from a good ways away - they do not seem to believe me when I tell them they need to call for directions, as our subdivision is too new to be on any maps! He probably added 100 miles to his distance by not calling before he left Colorado!!!

Scott and I got the Race Ready running shirts from the last order, we had been wearing Race Ready shirts before, so we knew how they fit, and that we liked the feel of them. We wore them for the last couple races we have done. Our names are not on them, but names are on the bibs for at least the Disney races. I also like the sticker idea for names, then they could go on any shirt we decided to wear - for the race, but even more for get togethers before and after the race.

Have a great day!

Sorry Dave

The princesses have to stick together - Thanks Erica for the Suggestion and Nick will be pleased since it will no longer be all his fault!

Or we could do a combo platter Panda and Nick made us do it!

I remember during the marathon a woman stopped me during the race around the TTC and said I need one of those stickers - I have a Nick. She was running past me and I responded "I feel your pain" We laughed together as she took off.

Later on the overpass at mile 10, a man in his 30's tapped my shoulder and said I'm Nick, what did your Nick do. I said he got us into this race and if I catch him, I'm gonna kill him. He laughed. It's fun.

denise

Got home early, lawn mowed, a little work on the Jeep and a little tweeking on the South Bedroom Door.

Dinner tonight is an African dish called Babotie, made with meat, veggies, onions, garlic and lots o spices, like coriander, cummin, nutmeg, allspice, basil, marjorum, almonds and then cover with a milk and egg base then baked.

They serve it a Boma, but I can not recall where we got this recepie. I kinda tweek it.

Wind is still blowing strong. Hope it lays down in the AM.

Denise, those are great sticker stories.

Oh My I didn't realize I was so far behind keeping up with our post.
My precious little Hagen stayed three days and two nights and I lost track of everything!

We are sunny, hot, and humid. High 80's today -- Yuck!

Erica - Glad you found what it takes to make your toes happy. :goodvibes

Dave - Kung Fu Panda any relation?

Connie - Sorry to hear you are having IT problems!

Kim & Mike pixiedust:

Scott & Lynn - Humm...Dinner sounds Great! :thumbsup2

Kathy & Connie have FUN this weekend! ::yes:: ::yes::

Happy-Happy Belated Birthday Denise :cake:

Everyone ... Keep Cool & Hydrated!

Dave - Wow...you know the Penguin?! That would be awesome to have beers with him!!! :hyper:

Margie - The mid-west has been an oven lately huh? I've been running at the track at the gym. Boring as can be, but it beats the heat!!

Scott - I would LOVE that recipe...PM it to me?

Vicky - I always laugh when I read stuff that claims that running is the most economical activity to get involved with. Oh yeah sure...$160 dollar shoes, $250 Garmin, $50 hydration belt, $200 gym membership, AND hundreds on clothes and race registrations. Yeah...I don't buy work clothes anymore either...LOL! :lmao:

Lynn - Is RaceReady the company? Maybe I'll search them out and give one of their shirts a test run to see if I want to order the WISH one when the time comes around.

OK..as for me...3 miles in yesterday. I'm a little slow on my pace. I told myself that I wouldn't look at my garmin till I made it home and sure enough I was running at a 10:12 pace. I have a book"The Complete Book of Running for Women" and the author claims that we (chicks) are slower in the days approaching - Ahemm...men close your ears to this - our period. She also mentions that we can be our fastest on the first day of it. So I'll have to watch and see if that theory proves to be true. Anyhow...just about to get ready for the jay-oh-bee. Hope you all have a good day!!

Eva, the penguin and I are not best buds or anything but we exchange mails once in a while. I'm trying to make walking a more mainstream sport the way running is so our interests over lap, since he is the champion of, "it's ok to be slow".

We have talked for just a few minutes at the Disney expo. He is quite interesting to listen to, but we have a wonderfull group right here, that if you knew their stories you would be amazed. There is for sure a book or two right here in our little Hakuna Matata team.

Oh well it's time to get off my butt and put some serious fear in the fat cells. Did you knowe that you can grow fat cells but you never loose them? Fat cells are like the bodies storage sheds. You can empty them, so they are not gorged like a tick, but they never go away. That's why it's so easy to regain weight, the storage sheds are already there and the body just has to fill them up.

I know way to much information.

Have an awesome day y'all.

Walking off the pudge panda:hippie:
