New Jersey property taxes average $7300!!!

Well we have inherited dh dads and grandmas house in NJ. For his dads house we pay like $3700 for a 50 yr old small cape in Middlesex county,

Seems like a bargain compared to here on LI where we pay like $8100 for our 40 year old 3/4 bedroom ranch on 1/3 acre and that is with a property discount from a state program.

I do agree that the NJ/Ny metro taxes on everything is too high.

I pay pretty close to that in NY, but down where my dh works they pay double, and triple that :scared1:

I pay more than double that. I would be thrilled to pay $7300. LI property taxes are outrageous.

My friend lives in East Rutherford and she pays $17,000 a year!

OMG

I honestly don't know how people do it! We live in a very small house in Burlington County, and pay $6000.00. My husband would love to move back to PA for this very reason.

My Aunt is waterfront and pays $17,000, don't know how they do it! My brother and sister in law are in Hunterdon county and are selling their house and going over to Pennsylvania.

$7300?! I wish mine could be $7300. We pay over $10k.

Big reason my DH and I pulled up stakes and moved south. We had a home in Deptford that was costing us $8000 in property taxes. We now have a lovely home in SC and only pay $2500/yr.

average? Well we must set it high because ours are almost $17,000.

Don't know how any of you do it......$17000 ($1416 / mo) would work out to be more than my mortgage payment is in total!

I have a 2500 Sq ft hours (3250 if you add in the finished basement) that's worth about $200 - $210K. We pay $1650 for the year in property taxes.

$10K here too. It's the norm in this area. I'd be happy with $7,300.

$ 13,314 give or take a dollar or two

And that's not counting the increase in school tax since the budget passed, I'm terrified to get our new tax bill for August.

We're ready to leave in 2 years when DS graduates HS, if we can sell our house. Next door has been for sale over 6 months and no one has even come to look. The house on the other side is in pre-forclosure.

Wow, that's a bargain! My 1800 square foot home, 100 years old, on a 110x60 lot, is going up to $11,500 soon (thanks for the extra $500 governor Christie). I gotta get out of New Jersey!

Was over $12k when we bought. Increases every year. I am afraid to ask my wife what they are now... :sad2:

Glad I don't live in NJ. I could not afford a mortgage payment for my property taxes.
