New iPhone! Update got a refund!!!

and to think all I have is a prepaid Tracfone that I hardly ever use...

those with iphones, do you also have a land line? or does the iphone do it all?

I read these i Phone threads with envy. I have the cheapest model of a Tracfone as well, as a matter of fact, I bought a years subscription plus minutes. I just use it to keep in touch with the kids when they are at an activity or after school etc and when we travel. I told my husband last night that I saw where the price of the iPhone was looking affordable.

Conversation went something like this:
Me: "oh look honey an iPhone for $99!":thumbsup2
DH: "I don't want an iPhone."
Me: "You don't have to want an iPhone, I want an iPhone!"
DH : "What do you want an iPhone for?"
ME: "It's a really cool gadget!!!" said a bit manically
DH : sigh
Me: "I like gadgets you know!" still manic:worship:
DH: "Yes I know" shaking his head
Me: "So can I get an iPhone???!" batting of the eyes:lovestruc
DH: "No"
Me "Buy Whyyyyyy" whining
DH: "Honey, No one ever calls you, we aren't getting an iPhone just so you can have a gadget."
Me "awwwwww" Sigh

So no iPhone for me. I am just so jealous lol! And it's true no one ever calls me! :sad1:

"Nikki...buy the iPhone."

"Nikki ...get the iPhone."

"Nikki...you will be sorry if you dont get an iPhone."

"Nikki....just get the $#%$& iPhone,"

If you had gotten the Verizon Fiasco ...or whatever it was you were looking at....would you be sorry you didnt have an iPhone?

The answer to that question is YES.

The only conclusion we can come to.....Kevin was right. :thumbsup2

:lmao::lmao::lmao:

Just sayin' I stopped doubting Kevin at the "sad little crab cake"

Don't fall into what I call the "higher faster and louder" crowd. These folks mean well but they have to have the most recent technology avaiable. I know, I am a recovering HFL.

Now, I were in your position, I would exchange it when the iPhone 3Gs is on the market simply because you can. Still, you don't need to kick yourself for getting what is a very high quality iPhone. If you end up "stuck" with the iPhone 3G, you are still getting a very good iPhone/computer.

I will not be "upgrading" mine but you have 30 days to return yours. If I am right about the time frame, you should be able to keep your iPhone 3G until the iPhone 3Gs comes out (which I understand to be next week). The trick is to get to the front of the line for the new iPhone (assuming they will be in big demand as was the 3G). I think that means you want to get on the appointment book for the "genius" counter at your local Apple store (or show up early one morning at the AT&T store if you bought it there).

Don't fret. Good luck.

Oh I agree with not upgrading... The only change really interests me in the 3Gs is battery life and that's not worth the $200 or $300. I'll wait until the next iteration.

But in the 30day window it totally makes sense.

I bought an iPhone on Friday night. Well today Apple announced that the price dropped to $99 since I paid $199 and it was within the 30 day window, they refunded us(my DH and I) $200 plus tax because we bought two phones. They gave us two options: 1. Keep our phones and get $200 refund or 2. wait another week and half and get on a wait list and get the new iPhone 3GS and pay a 10% restocking fee. We chose the refund because the only difference is the speed and a couple other features we won't use. Also keep in mind that there is a HUGE update coming out for current iPhone users and will get a lot of the updates the new iPhone 3GS is going to have.

I think you made a smart decision. Glad it worked out.

So if you want to trade a 3G for a 3Gs, do you need to have bought it within 30 days of the launch on 6-17, or within 30 days of now?

Do you have to give up your old phone in the meantime, or do you keep it until the new ones come out?

I wasn't that interested in the new model since so many of the features are in the 3.0 OS, until I found out the voice control will only be on the new phone. That is about the only thing I miss from my windows mobile phone, it makes calls and music so much better while driving. Microsoft voice command could also launch apps and web bookmarks as well, something that still seems to be missing from the iphone.

Ian,

You should read the agreement you signed when you bought the 3G - I think it will say you have 30 days from the date of purchase to return the phone (and pay a restocking fee).

It has to have been within 30 days of purchasing your iPhone. ATT&T stores will be getting them on June 19th, so you would have had to buy your current phone May 20th or after(I hope I did the math right).

Welcome!!
Have a look in the iPhone Collective thread for some cool stuff to do :)

:goodvibes

Ummm does anyone have the link to this? I looked but I couldn't find it. I just pre-ordered the new 3Gs today. :cool1:

I have the iPod touch, but this is pushing me closer to getting the iPhone............

I'm a mac lover - but I've held out getting an iphone due to being so locked into verizon. So for the last year I've watched everyone else being cool, & I have my very basic LG.

Now $99, and I'm ready to trade in when my contract is up, but *all* my friends and family have Verizon - by far the best coverage around here. Anyone in North west NJ have good coverage with AT&T? Do I try to get all my family to switch too?? My extended family is definately not a Mac family. Maybe I can get my mom to switch back :scratchin

We had this same problem. All of our friends and family are Verizon but all we did was analyze our bill to determine how many minutes we used a month and that determined how many minutes we got from AT&T. Plus AT&T will pay half your early termination fee with Verizon.

I have been trying to pre-order the Iphone 3GS since last night and no luck. It just dawned on me that it is most likely due to the fraud alert I had them place on my credit reports. I called AT&T and they won't take the pre-order they just want to push the 3G phone.

I bought my iPhone on May 16th, I got my credit this past Monday on the 8th of June.

That was my method except that right after we switched to AT&T, DDdeveloped a boyfriend who had a verizon phone. Ouch.

Val & I aren't going to upgrade. At least right now. We've got the 3G version which we got last July. So upgrading right now would entail a big hit financially. But we are eligible for an upgrade come mid-December so we may think about it for a Christmas present.

Can i get the 99$ I phone without the phone service with it, and use it as an ipod touch? or would that remove internet too?

The $99 is based on a 2 year contract for minimum service. Generally they will sell them sometime down the road for about $400 more without service, but that would defeat the cost advantage vs. the iTouch...
