Hi All!
We haven't been to Disney in 5 years. We have a future trip planned. Our daughters want to fill a box at DTD with the Mr. Potato Head pieces. Is it worth purchasing the Mr. Potato Head at home (they are $5 at Walmart) for the potato, or is it worth it to just purchase the potato separately (not part of the box that we fill up) at Once Upon a Toy? I can't seem to find out how much the potato heads are individually at Once Upon a Toy. Thanks so much!

It has been a couple of years since I looked at it. There used to be three options:

1) Build a Mr. Potato Head - limited accessories.
2) Fill a box with pieces - about $20 dollars
3) Fill a large Mr. Potato Head - about $50 dollars.

I don't know what the current price for just the head is, but an individual part was $2/piece back then. I always expect Disney to have a healthy mark up and I expect WalMart will be at least a couple of dollars cheaper.

Those in the know will tell you to pack carefully. There is an art to getting as much in the box as possible.

My friend collects the Potato Head pieces at WDW. She always buys the "heads" at regular stores like Walmart or Target. You can fit so much more in the boxes is you skip buying the heads.

I did the same thing several years ago when WDW used to have My Little Pony kiosks with one-of-a-kind Disney "princess" accessories. You should have seen all of us adults sitting on the floor, trying to cram as many acessories into the boxes as we could. We shared lots of strategies on how to maximize space. I was able to get multiples of each princess/Minnie outfit, which was very cool because my niece had tons of accessories to choose from when having friends over for "pony parties!" :)

I was hoping this was still available! Our girls want to do it too!!

I would buy the head separately at Walmart. Just don't do what I did and purchase a Transformer Potato Head on clearance and then fill the box at Disney but forget to get feet. Here I had lots of fun costumes but only transformer feet because I forgot to grab some. This time around I will make sure those are the first items that go in my box.

And watch the hands. Make sure you have right AND left. They hold things differently.

I saw a video posted online that showed how to fit as many parts as possible into the $20.00 box. Also they said you can get the Mr Potato Head anywhere but get the left and right arms at Disney because the regular ones the hands won't hold the Disney accessories.
