Hi everyone!

I'm not telling too many of my family and friends, do to the fact it's none of their business, but I wanted to tell my Dis family that I got an iMac last night and haven't had too much time to play with it but so far I LOVE it!!!!!! I love this huge screen, compared to my laptop screen which is probably a 13 inch screen, and this one is the 20 inch screen. The Dis looks so big on this screen and watching youtube videos is awesome!

Does anyone out there have any tips for me. The last time I used a Mac was in high school and I graduated 5 years ago. I am really getting into digital photography and that is the main reason that I bought this computer. TIA!

LOVE my iMac! Make sure you get an external hard drive. Would be a shame to lose the photos!

I've all ready got one that is what I am storing all of my stuff on right now and that is how I am transfering all 60,000 pictures I have from one computer to the other!

Take a look at SuperDuper, which is a good backup program - it's good to use in conjunction with Time Machine. If you twitter, check out Tweetie. I love it. And if you do instant messaging, but sure and look at iChat. I'm always surprised by all the features it seems to have tucked away.

Congrats on the new iMac!!! :cool1::cool1::cool1:

oooh, oooh, oooh.....(raises hand in the air) speaking of features tucked away, I want to tell you about something SO cool that I just found today. Have had my iMac for over 2 years, just found this.

You can set your screensavers to make photo mosaics of your pictures. It is mesmerizing. I just picked about 15 pictures for it to go through randomly, it takes the mosaic pieces from all my other pictures in whatever color it needs. After you get some pics into iPhoto you will have to try it out.

I can't find it. Can u give steps?

We have had our IMAC for almost a year. We had a hard disk error, and lost everything. i reinstalled our OS. We are using a recovery program, but it is a slow, tedious task! all our pictures, music, everything.....so yes, do buy an external hard drive!!!!!! But my husband is a graphics person, so we got it for him, but i am addicted to it. 24" monitor!!! it's the best thing ever!!! only the cool people have MAC'S. :D
:cool1:

One of the best things I did when I bought my first Mac years and years ago was to join a MacUser Group....I dont know where you live, but you can go to the Apple.com site and do a search and find a user group in your area...so a small yearly fee you can go to meetings and learn TONS of new things about your MAC....check it out....and welcome to the world of MAC...

hooray for your new iMac! i too love my iMac(s)... i have one at home and one at work.

i've gotta say i am not a big fan of TimeMachine. probably because my external HD is not big enough to hold everything so now i just transfer stuff across manually. i don't see the point in backing up applications and stuff when i can just re-install them if necessary! (someone feel free to correct me if i am wrong).
i guess as long as i remember to do it regularly then i should be okay.

Michele, i also would like to know how to do the mosaic thingamy!

Go to System Preferences --> Desktop & Screen Saver --> Screen Saver.

In the left panel, you should see a list of iPhoto photos and/or albums under the Picture heading. Select whichever photos/albums you want to use.

Below the Preview screen on the right, you should see 3 options for Display Style. Select the 3rd option (looks like a grid). This is the Mosaic option.

You should see a progress bar that indicates all of your photos are being analyzed. Once this is complete, you can click the test button to preview in full screen.

Hope that helps.

Yea, what he said. :thumbsup2

I made an album in iPhoto of the pictures I wanted to use. Then follow shaq_d's instructions in System Preferences. It does take quite a while it to analyze but so cool once you can see it.

Let me know if you get it going.

Have lots of fun with the iMac :) Hopefully one day I will trade up from a PC :thumbsup2

We just got a mac & I love it. I'm still trying to learn all it can do but I know I love it more than our old windows pcs. I'm going to have to set up the screen saver shaq d mentioned.

First congrats... MACS RULE!
You will love it!
Second... I have to say that keep it simple and don't over think the programs. Remember mac is user friendly... the people at the apple store are uber super helpful... and the site has great tutorials.
Best wishes. Mac on!

We got our desktop last January to replace our old eMac, which was working fine, but, we gave it to our grandson. We've also got three Mac laptops in the family......DH, and both DS's. We all love our Mac's....................

Just wanted to update everyone, we paid $60 and upgraded to the new imac that just came out this week and it is awesome, if you are even remotely thinking about getting an imac, DO IT. I can't believe how easy it is to use and how AWESOME the graphics are on the screen.
