I noticed that the ART route map that I used last month includes mention of some Anaheim hotels that either haven't opened yet, or possibly opened very recently. I thought it might help people planning trips for 2020 or later to know about these. According to the map, they are:

Westin Hotel, near Katella and West St., opening 2020
Cambria Hotel, near Katella and Anaheim Blvd. (2019, so may be open already)
JW Marriott, Clementine north of Katella, opening 2020
Radisson Blu, Anaheim Blvd. north of I-5, opening 2020
Element Hotel by Westin Anaheim, near Manchester and Disney Way, opening 2019 (I saw this one from the ART bus and it didn't appear to be open yet)
Hilton Garden Inn/Home2Suites, further north on Manchester from the Element, opening 2020

So, if you have loyalty/reward points for any of these accommodations or you just like 'em in general, it might be worth checking out.

Great list and that's a lot of new supply! Room specials 2020, anyone?

I was actually looking at the Cambria recently. I was trying to see which hotels had waterparks or waterslides and it popped right up. It looks like they are open now, and they have a large lap pool, hot tub, splash pad, and two large slides. Looks fun!

I still don't think it's open yet. Drove by recently and still a construction zone in the parking lot.

Looking forward to both JW and Westin - both are closer than hour Sheraton/residence Inn/Hyatt Place go tos. Still wishing someone buys the BW properties and put an updated RI/homesuites there.

Curious what effect the JW Marriott will have. It’ll be nice that the on property hotels have some competition in the luxury space.

But, if I’m someone who is going to spend the money to stay at GCH, then aren’t I going to choose GCH every time instead of a similarly priced property half a mile away? What’s the advantage? I can’t imagine it’ll lead to lower on-property prices, but maybe we can hope the competition leads to some amenity/service upgrades on-property.

For us, one big advantage is loyalty points. If the on site hotels had some kind of rewards program/loyalty points program, we'd stay on site much more often. The idea of spending all that money and not getting points for a free night or an upgrade just seems wasteful. If I can use my Marriott points to get a free night at the JW Marriott, that's where you'll find us instead of at the GCH. We can use Uber to get to the parks, and the money spent on the hotel will mean more points toward more free nights in the future.

DLGal, since you know the location of this hotel, would you say it's walkable to DL or no?

I have 2 thoughts on this, and I could be totally wrong. First, I doubt that they will charge as much as GCH has been charging, at least initially. They have the disadvantage of not being on site and I am presuming that will not allow them to charge the rate the on site properties do unless they are offering more, like a suite for the price of a room at GCH. Second, they may have larger rooms, more affordable suites, breakfast included, possibly suites with kitchenettes, and things that will appeal to families who like luxury properties and would appreciate more space/amenities that they can afford. For people like me who like a full-service luxury hotel, the distance wouldn't be a big hindrance if they had more to offer that made up for it. I often travel with adults so I don't need the family things but I like a full-service hotel that's in walking distance, something hard to find currently unless you stay on site.

You're right, though; if the price were the same or very close, I would choose DLH or GCH without some other incentive. It would have to be more than an on site Starbucks :teeth:

I would say it is, but it is a LONG walk. It's not one I would walk, personally. I am not a fan of the area right there at the end of Katella next to the freeway. It's a bunch of seedy motels and strip malls and I wouldn't feel safe doing that walk at night especially. The Cambria is set pretty far back from the road, and the development there is newer so it looks nice, but the walk would be out of my comfort zone. I'd drive to the Toy Story lot or use Lyft, personally, if I had to stay there. It would be a 20-30 minute walk, depending on pace.

From Presser release: It's about the same distance as Disneyland Hotel. Probably a smidgen further depending on the room location. Category 7 award. Current opening date 4/2020. Westin is Cat 5 8/2020 . The bummer on Marriott is they are moving to surge pricing on award redemptions and that's doubling some costs. RI is typically 50k -- in March: 115k per night.

  • The JW Marriott, Anaheim Resort will open in February 2020 and will be the first luxury hotel in the Disneyland area outside of theme park gates.
  • The new hotel will be located at the Anaheim GardenWalk, within walking distance of Disneyland Resort and the Anaheim Convention Center.
  • The new hotel will feature 466 lavish guest rooms including 19 suites with quiet floors.
  • Guests will also find a lush garden outdoor area, and a yoga and Zen room for a well-balanced stay, and welcome respite from nearby attractions.
  • The hotel’s park-like setting allows travelers to take in a more relaxing way of life, through an expansive fitness center with state-of-the-art-equipment, outdoor swimming pool, and imaginative Family by JW activities – designed for children ages 4-12.
  • An array of exceptional culinary offerings will also be found throughout the hotel.
  • Most notably, the hotel will boast the city’s highest rooftop bar and lounge. The soon-to-be nighttime hotspot will feature creative libations and spectacular views of theme park fireworks.
  • Additionally, an eclectic lobby bar, quick-service market café and JW Marriott Signature Restaurant provide an array of all-day dining options and locally inspired dishes.
  • Finally, the hotel will feature 15 meeting rooms and 43,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor function spaces. The spaces include 15,000 square feet for outdoor events and a 13,440 square-feet Grand Ballroom to engage up to 1,400 guests.

Are some of these new hotels on Manchester at the site of what would have been the parking garage for the failed eastern gateway project? Or, does Disney still own that land?

No. They are out towards the freeway near the garden walk, for the most part.

Disney still owns that land behind Harbor. Nothing is being done there now.

I agree with DLgal...I wouldn't want to do that walk to the Cambria at night. One of the benefits of the S Harbor hotels is that there are always families walking back at any hour of the day or night, so there's safety in numbers. When I stayed at the Hotel Indigo, there were times where we were walking back to the hotel alone after the Castle Inn. We were a group of adults, so it was no big deal, but I wouldn't recommend any families walk that area at night. Personally, I wouldn't stay anywhere past the Anaheim GardenWalk.

I have a refundable reservation for one night in April at the Candlewood Suites. They are at 1733 South Anaheim Boulevard,
Anaheim, CA 92805, which puts them near the Motel 6 and in this area you describe. I'm staying one night there before I switch to the Grand Californian. My plan is to have breakfast, although I don't think the hotel has anything except grab-and-go, and then take a Lyft over to the GC.

After seeing this, I'm considering paying more to stay in one of my usual locations on Harbor - Candy Cane, Park Place, or Park Vue, although those cost more and I am not going to the park from there. Alternatively, I might try Stovall's; I think I could probably walk up Disneyland Drive with my luggage the morning I switch.

That’s what I mean. I hope the JW Marriott pulls guests away from GCH because that would provide some incentive for Disney to upgrade services and amenities (instead of being satisfied with the status quo) which is always a good thing for guests.

I’m just curious how many people who are spending that amount of money, and specifically coming to visit Disneyland, will be swayed away. Or whether the JW Marriott will primarily cater to convention attendees, and not so much Disneyland guests.
