OK, so when we go to disney we will have a little girl who will almost be 3, she needs a stroler right? also, i will have a 7 year old..he should be ok right?? we are getting her a brand new stroller so shewill be excited to sit in it:wizard:

My 3 year old will need one I know it. I will also have a 2 year old so I am renting a double from a babies best friend

You will get lots of answers to this question.:)

My answer is it depends on your child. Only you will know if they will need a stroller.

My opinions would be...I would say the 3 year old will definitely need one. Little legs and lots of walking equal cranky, lol.;)

I think the 7 year old will be fine with breaks. This is just my opinion based on our experiences. Our kids stopped using a stroller in WDW at 4.

Have a great trip!!:goodvibes

Agreed, 3 year old will need one for sure. The 7 year old shouldn't and I hate seeing older kids in em but down there you may need it. We had a nice folding Peg Perago (sp) that had a spot on the back where a small kid could stand. This is what is was meant for, I didn't come up with it.
Thus, my DD who is younger could ride in the stroller and DS would stand when he got tired. It worked great!

When we took DNephew at age 6, he was fine walking. We did have a sit down lunch or dinner ea. day, which gave the kids a bit of a break.

3 - yes, clearly the younger will need a stroller for times.

Visiting WDW with my 3 yr old grand daughter and we are on a strict budget. Would you recommend renting a stroller from Disney or bring our own light weight umbrella (do they still call them that?) stroller with us?

Thanks.
S

Just back from 2 mks at wdw with a 6yr.we had not planned a stroler as she hasnt used one in 3yrs but after 2 days of misery and whining about being too hot/tired we started to get them for all the parks.it was the best thing we did.she was shaded, happier and therefore so were we
Planning to go back in 2 years so hopefully she will not need one but i do know of people with 8yr olds that still use them.comming from Ireland we are not used to the heat/humidity so for children it is even harder and why put that strain on your holiday if you can avoid it:dance3:

I am going to WDW with my niece and nephew (3,1) in October. I have see on the Disney site that you can save money by getting a stroller for a whole week instead of by the day. My question is does that work for all the parks, or is that for just one park?

And does anyone know where in WDW I can buy the "My first Mickey ears" hats?

the rentals at the parks do not recline, so for little ones who may end up sleeping in the stroller the ones at the parks won't be very comfartable. I would either bring my own or rent from an outside company. A couple are a babys best friend or orlando stroller rentals. Both have web sites, not sure of the exact address so just do a search for them.

When we went last summer with a 20 month old and 7 yr old dd who we though might need one, we brought a zooper twist for the baby and a garage sale find that was similar to maclarens for the 7 yr old. DD ended up only using it once and the was at epcot as we spent all day there with no breaks. This summer we are only taking the one for the baby who will be almost three when we go.

Not sure about the Mickey ears, but I have done the stroller rental. I have 3 kids 8,5,and 3. My oldest used a stroller at age 5 in Disney, not after that. I always get a double rental from disney. They give you a coupon and it is good for ALL parks. you can also use it in the morning at MK and then use the coupon for another that same night at Epcot. You just pick up the stroller right at the main entrance and return it on the way out. The kiddos will have to walk to the monorail and buses though!
The rental can be expensive, but I prefer them because of the shade they provide and I like the size of them so I can throw all of my purchases in there too! Many prefer to bring there own, it is a completely personal choice!

I would just bring the umbrella stroller for a 3 yr old. Disney strollers are expensive! and an umbrella is fine for a 3 yr old. That is all we ever took to the parks, they are a lot easier to maneuver thru the crowds and to fold up to get on and off buses, trams etc.

I just went ahead and bought a MaClaren Volo at Target for $99 for our upcoming trip. It turns on a dime and folds up really nicely. It even has a strap so you can carry it over your shoulder. I love it!

We took our kids of the exact same age (DS7, DD3) in May. Used the stroller that we brought with us daily for DD, and towards the end of the trip, certainly thought about renting a double stroller for both kids. DS did well the whole time, except at the end of the day - totally understandable. Thank goodness for DH's shoulders! So, you should be fine with just the one stroller - and if it's a good one, maybe your older kiddo can use it sometimes as well.

Sprinke and SCard:

You will get a zillion different answers on this one. It really does depend you your choice, your budget and your children.

I have two kids 2 yrs and 6 yrs. We have been to WDW every year since my oldest was 9 months old. Here's what we do:

We found our double stoller a terrible inconvenience the year we brought it. It was just cumbersome to lug around. Plus the child sitting in back doesn't really get a good view of the surroundings.

Other than that one double stroller year, we do always bring our regular light weight (not umbrella) stroller with us on every trip. Because we want to have it at the airport/the hotel/the stores etc. Think about trying to wrangle a little one when you are NOT in the parks. When the parks close and you have to turn in your rental stroller who is going to carry your sleeping child(ren) to the car? Think about every scenario and if you'll want a stroller, bring one from home. The air carriers let you wheel stollers right up to the gate and you get them back as soon as you are off of the plane. (Do you really want to have to keep track of a little one checking in and when you are claiming your bags at the airport?) Just a couple things to think about when making your stroller decision.

Regarding age appropriateness for strollers. Our little one is in the stoller more often than her big sister. However, the little ones do like to get out and stretch their legs and run around a bit. It is around this same time that my 6 year old usually appreciates taking a walking break and gets in the stroller. Most of the time our 6 year old wants to and can walk around, especially when we are taking breaks by seeing shows, dining, etc. But at the end of the day, both kids are tired and we rotate them in the stroller.

We also like to bring our regular stoller from home because it has a tray and cup holders for the child and the parents, plus the basket underneath is a good place for extra snacks, changes of clothes, the diaper bag and purchases that we don't want to carry around.

That's my 2 cents:flower3:

SCard - I'm also in the Boston area. I'm in Methuen, about 30 miles north of the city. We will be arriving at POR on Sept 18th. Where are you from and when is your trip?

Also, see my other post above. At 3 years old and a strict budget I would highly recommend bringing a light weight stroller. In addition to the trays and storage basket, the regular stollers also have a better shade cover so when a child is sleeping they will be better shaded.

SLEEPING CHILD IN A STROLLER TIP:
I bring a large receiving blanket and several Large Binder clips with us. I clip one edge of the blanket to the edge of the stoller shade. So when my child is sleeping I can completely cover them and provide them with more shade and a little less noise. I usually bring 5 binder clips. 3 to attach the blanket to the stoller shade and 2 more to use to attach the bottom of the blanket to the stoller in case it's windy.

RAIN TIP:
Also, don't forget to invest in either an inexpensive stoller cover or rain poncho (found at Walmart and/or Babies R Us). Whenever you enter a ride/show make sure your stroller is covered. Even when there aren't any clouds in the sky, it can downpour in Florida while you are inside and you'll come back to a SOAKING WET stoller!) :flower3:
