Hi everyone.. I just wanted to say hello. I have been trying to get on the boards for several weeks now and finally got through ( had AOL problems).. Anyway , I am originally from Orlando but now I live in Georgia ,the Army stationed me and my hubby here.. I have been to Disney World several times and am addicted to it.. My husband just returned home from 6 months in Afghanistan and I am wanting to surprise him with a trip to WDW in Jan, or Feb.. I don't have any exact dates in mind because he will have to request leave and be approved.... I have some questions for you guys and hopefully someone can help me out.... Ok , last time we went ( 2004) I had called Shades of green about 4 days before we went and they were booked so I asked if they could book us a room at the contemporary and they did for a great rate... So my question is... If I call them again a few days before our trip can they get us ressies for The Grand Floridian at a discount? ( keeping in mind that SOG may be booked)... Has anyone ever stayed at the GF at a SOG rate? Also my hubby has an injured knee ,( he can walk on it but it is in a brace) so if we were to go with an Epcot resort which one has the closest walking distance to Epcot? ...Any tips that you can giveme would be great , thanks in advance for any help.... Take Care! ~ Janet

Hi there! Welcome to the Dis!

I'll try to answer some of your questions;)

As to getting GF instead of SOG, I suspect that they'd have to be booked up to offer an overflow rate but...not sure. Check out www.mousesavers.com there may be other discount codes for the GF or any of the other resorts that you may also be eligible for but I'd recommend asking CRO directly if they have any kind of Military discount available. I'd also try and book as soon as you know your dates.

As to which Epcot resort would be closest -- BC and BW would be the closest. Both are great resorts, it's all which theming you like best. Followed by YC,Swan & Dolphin. You can either walk or take the boat to Epcot (and also MGM). You can also get a wheelchair for your dh from the resort I believe since he has an injury and you'll be able to use the handicap enterances for the rides btw;)

Just wanted to say "hi" and WELCOME to the DIS to a fellow Georgian!

Hi and welcome! Though I'm new to the DIS Boards myself, so I don't know if I'm qualified to welcome anybody yet...

Although Yacht and Beach Clubs are the closest to Epcot, Swan and Dolphin (which are nto Disney resorts but owned by Sheraton/Starwood) have excellent teacher/nurse/millitary discounts. Check thier web site:
http://www.swandolphin.com/home.html to find the direct phone number and ask about military discount rates for your trip dates. Also mention that DH is injurred and have them make a note on the reservation, which will get you a room close to the elevator. Don't worry about the walking distance to Epcot; take the boats.
