New here..Can food or drinks be taken into the park?

Hope this isn't a silly question. It's been 20 years since I've been to Disneyworld. Now, our family is going there next August and can't wait!!!
I'm wondering if food and drinks are allowed to be brought into the park?

"Officially" it is not allowed. But they will not stop you from bringing snacks but I wouldn't try a "Picnic" lunch.

first, welcome to the boards. Stick with us, and you'll know so much information your head will feel like it's gonna bust! Yes, you can take snacks in the park. If you have everyone (especially the kids) take fanny packs and put some snack type stuff in there, that will at least save you a little money. Put gold fish crackers and stuff like that in baggies. It works great

We bring water and snacks, no problem.

Our last visit we strung the handles of our souvenir mugs through the straps on our fanny packs. Worked great, and no-one batted an eye.

we were just there in Oct and I took in sandwiches, juice boxes, sodas, candy, fruit, anything I could think of that would be ok to eat. Security checks your backback but no one ever said anything. I would not want to waste my time standing in line fro food everytime one of my kids said "I'm hungry". Much easier to just reach in the backback and feed them.
We went to Universal- they said no food(ticked me off!), but did not really check backpacks very closely. I just stuffed a little candy in my pockets for that place. I did not mind spending a little on food there since the park admission was half of what Disney charges.

Of course they would not say anything, they are there for security, they are not the food police.

The official word is that food is not allowed in the parks. The exception is water and baby food/drink.

The admission to Universal is 49.95, I am not sure how that is half the cost of Disney's admission, but, my math tells me it is right about the same, when you add tax.

This can be a hot subject, so I hope this thread doesn't take a turn into debate land.

My kids take fanny packs with snacks, and the last 3 times I went I took a small collapsible cooler. Sometimes it had milk and sodas, and some days it had sandwiches, string cheese, etc. No one said anything or gave me a dirty look. We're doing a combination of sit-down dining and our own food. I agree that standing in line every time a kid is hungry is the sure way to waste a lot of time. Fanny pack snacks deliver us from that evil. I'm also not paying $5 to go in a restaurant and get my kids PB sandwiches. I'll pay for character meals, but if they want a PB sandwich 3 hrs later, I'm pulling it out of my cooler. Anyway, my kids have invented a way to be picky about PB, so this way I don't have to special order.

Since I had a little one last time we were there I brought in snacks as well. It really was great to just hand her a package of fruit snacks while waiting in line versus getting out of that line and standing in another for food. By the time we see Disney again she'll probably be a teenager, so I won't have to worry about that any more!

you can get a 3 day pass for universal for $78. that is a little over $25 a day. about half of Disney.
I guess I CAN do math!

Yep, you sure can do math. I don't recall saying you couldn't. And, I guess that is a great price for 3 days at Universal. Unfortunately, I am one of those folks who cannot imagine what you could find to do for three days at Universal. No offense, but, I cannot stand the place.

Universal was not my favorite place either. I had not been there in 10 years and really was not sure what it was like with the new park. It was ok, but next time I would do more Disney and less Universal(the kids might override me on that- there are alot of good thrill rides at IOA).
