We just got engaged at Disney on 6/4 and are now planning an intimate wedding for 4/17/08. It was either Disney or eloping to Vegas and let's be honest, getting married at Disney beats having an Elvis wedding (sorry to any Elvis fans!:) ).

I guess my first question is can you call DFTW and ask questions before you commit? We have all kinds of questions that their website does not answer.

Thanks for any advice you can give me! I don't even know where to begin.

Hi welcome! Yes you can call DFTW will questions. You may want to read through the posts on there too. There are alot of helpful ones. Most of your answers can be answered on here.

WELCOME!!!:wave2: you can and should absolutely call DFTW w/ questions. If they don't answer some of them, you know where to find us;)

:welcome: and congrats on your engagement! I agree with the girls above. Call and ask all the questions you want! Also, there is a WEALTH of info on this board so look around here too. A lot of your questions might be answered :)

Congrats and Welcome!! :) You definately should call Disney, and like said above...any questions that are unanswered will more than likely be answered here! If you can't find an answer..just ask! :)

Congratulations and welcome! Like everyone said, you can call them and they can help you - but I learned soo much more on this forum then I did from DFTW! Feel free to ask us any questions you might have and look around for ideas!

:)

LoL mary...I was reading your post and I thought, you know...when I ask my SM about things for my wedding I usually know more than she does! She is usually left saying "Well, I am not even sure on that... I'll have to ask someone who knows" when I mention something that I've already learned on here! So this board is definately more helpful than DFTW!

You got engaged on our Vow Renewal date (well next year)!
A great place to start is SRUAlmn's step by step planning journal.

One important tip I just figured out is that if you do a search for any topic on this board, it's better to use the abbreviations than writing out the whole word. For example, you'll get a lot more results from typing GF than Grand Floridian.

I just called Disney while you were getting engaged. Disney will hold your date at the one year mark at the earliest. Since you are getting married next April, you should probably call immediately and see if that date and times you want have already been booked at the location you want. Just so you know what's available, or if you have to be flexible. Once you ask for a date, Disney will pencil it in and send you a contract. You need to fill it out and send it back with a $750 deposit within 2 weeks for them to actually hold that time, date and venue for you.

There are 3 kinds of weddings Disney offers: an Escape (or Intimate) wedding (for less than 20 total people) which offers some standard amenities like 2 annual passes, minicake, champagne, bouquet, 4 hours of limo, and 20 photos for $4000, but no reception or officiantis included; a Wishes (or Custom) wedding if you have over 18 guests, I think they have requirements of spending over $10,000 to Disney and a certain number of hotel rooms need to be booked; and now there are Couture weddings which have super-fancy themes and cost a minimum of $75,000 I believe.

So I guess first decide how many guests you're having, what your budget is and where you want your venue to be. A good place to start for some succinct info is www.mouseweddings.com. It gives an overview and pictures of most of the venues and dinner sites. I found it valuable since that was where I learned that there were some party size restrictions at some of the Escape venues. Also keep in mind that if you are having a large party the restaurants will probably seat you at the earliest or latest seating, unless you book a private room.

Congratulations, and happy planning!!!
