I am thinking of entering the 8k (probably as a walker at this point).

Running through Colonial Williamsburg is awesome and it's not a far drive for us. I'm thinking of talking DH into running the Half on Sunday.

If you're one of the first 3,000 to register for the Half, you get free admission to Busch Gardens.

The registration rates are reasonable, too:

Fit to Run, Fit to Dream 8K Run/Walk - Saturday, May 21, 2011
$40.00 General Registration 8K
$20.00 Active-Duty Military 8K*
FREE Wounded Warriors 8K*

Fit to Run, Fit to Dream Fun Run (ages 14 and under) - Saturday, May 21, 2011
$10.00 General Registration Fun Run

Run for the Dream Half Marathon - Sunday, May 22, 2011
$75.00 General Registration Half Marathon
$35.00 Active-Duty Military Half Marathon*
FREE Wounded Warriors Half Marathon*

I am registered for the half and am considering doing the 8K as well, but that will depend on if I hit my goal of getting back to sub-3 hour halves before this half.

My DH and I will be there doing the half. I'm looking forward to it. I love the Williamsburg area!

I do, too. We try and go a lot when the weather gets warm.

My husband thinks I'm in it for the food, and he may be right. The Cheese Shoppe in the Colonial area makes the best roast beef sandwich ever. :lmao:

That's exactly the timeframe when I'd like to do a half, but about 6 hours further than I'd like to drive, even if I'd get to redeem myself by running along the same paths I stumbled drunkenly along while I was in college. So tempting!

I think this would be an interesting event. We just did the Shamrock/Anthem event in Virginia Beach and I got to make a first trip to Colonial Williamsburg. It was an interesting place and I think running through there would be fun. Hope everyone has good news about it when you are finished.

I want to get my states done first so if it is continuing when I am ready to repeat states maybe...

Hmmmmmmm........need to consider this one. I'm trying to do one a month and just did DC. The next one is local. Not sure if I can swing another travel one even though this one is definitely drivable. Will need to keep it on my radar! Subscribing . . .

Had it all planned out. DH was going to do the Half, and I was going to run the 8K as my first real race following the hip surgery I had in December. Had done everything but hit "submit," and then he tells me that there's no way he can get away from work that weekend. I've already got the days off, but don't really want to do a solo trip. Haven't given the days back though, so I'm still on the fence. Last time we were in Williamsburg I said I really wanted to run there, and this is a great opportunity!

I too just got finished with the Shamrock (with some W.I.S.H. teammates, hi Lily!), but am thinking of doing the half in a year or so.
I use to live in Williamsburg and loved walking through Colonial Williamsburg...beautiful area. Good luck!:thumbsup2

Who needs DH? DD said she'd do the 8K. Just booked the hotel, and registered for the race! Gonna be a girls' weekend!

I already have a race May 15th but this looks really interesting. I might have to make this my spring half next year.

Just found this thread......I'm in!

Jackie: Yay! You're coming!

John & I will be there! Registered for the half.

Since we had to cancel Shamrock, I am very happy to still be able to get VA in this year. I love the Williamsburg area too!

Hooray Karen & John!

This is gonna be fun! And I can scream team, since I'm just doing the 8K. Just don't count on seeing Annie with me on Sunday morning. Have you ever tried to convince a 20 year old that it's fun to get up early to cheer for someone? :rotfl:

I respectfully disagree.... the smoked turkey is to DIE FOR!! :rotfl: We just had them last weekend actually- went up to the burg for some outlet shopping.

I love Williamsburg (went to undergrad and graduate school there) and was thinking about doing this one, but have something that weekend so I'm going to try for next year.

My friend at work drove the course the other week. She said it's really hilly which I was somewhat surprised at because it's Williamsburg, but I think there's a hilly section on 199.

Awesome!

I can't wait to hear how it is going for everyone. I hope to read some good reviews.

Inaugural bling too!

I'm registered for the 1/2 and I know of a few other WISHers who are too. Should be fun!:thumbsup2

Planning on hitting the expo early on Saturday then going to Busch Gardens w/ the free pass!

We will probably be hitting the park on Sat too. I'm getting excited. Any thoughts on a good time for a WISH meet?

I'm still waiting to see if husband will be around or not that weekend in order for me to participate. I really want to do the 8k!
