OK now I'm scared. I am reading too many posts complaining about the new furniture at OKW. Has anyone posted photos of the new decor? Does anyone have any links?

Thanks,

Larry

We were there last month and the only really new thing is that the bed is about 6" higher due to the new, overstuffed mattresses. They are very comfortable and not an issue for me (6'5" tall), but my wife found she needed a step stool to get into bed (just kidding - she's 5'1").

The appliances are new too, but they are GE Profiles for the most part now and really, really nice (microwave has a popcorn button, dryer has new front clean filter, electric range has glass top with burners in the ceramic, etc.). Even the new BCV units don't have the nice new stoves that OKW is using in the re-do's. I mentioned this to the guide at BCV and she said that I wasn't the first to comment on that. She figured that DVC got a truckload deal from GE of the high-end stuff for OKW that wasn't available when BCV was bid.

The fabric on the living room furniture was new, but the same pattern as before. The blinds were new too, as the covering panels at the top are held on by velcro and were popping off all week.

Thanks, I feel better! BeantownDisneyFan's posts about the prison-like sterility of the new furnishings had me worried!

I read the other post after my answer, so I'd add a bit. Our "newly renovated" room had plenty of accent pillows - two on the loveseat, three on the pullout couch, and one on what I cal lthe OKW chair - the easy chair with ottoman. The pillows were light blue for one, mauve for another and peppermint stripe for the OKW chair. Not hard to tel lwhere to put them back to.

The carpet is a tight weave berber of a darkish blue/grey color. It complements the light and airy paint colors and fabric colors well from my jaundiced eye.

Do the furnishing look bland? I'd say no, but they do look a bit industrial in a germanic sort of way (I'm typing this in a Munich hotel room).

Could the room be warmer? You bet. The little extras like place mats and such added to the decor but are now missing for the most part in the re-do's. DVC has slimmed down the content, so the room does look a little spartan compared to years past.

The only other comment is that the size of the OKW main rooms adds to the spartan feel. If you put the same amout of furnishings in a Yacht Club or Polynesian room you'd feel very cozy and the furnishing would fill the room. OKW's big on space, so it would need twice the furnishings to feel intimate.

It would be nice in some studios if they provided a king size bed w/ a couch that would open when needed.

walter,
They have queens with a pull out in studios, just not at OKW.
I doubt they will ever change that.
