New French tax on theme parks?

Was talking to a French friend today who told me the French government plan to add a tax onto the entrance ticket costs at theme parks such as Disneyland Paris. Has anyone else heard anything about this? I don't know what percentages are invisaged but it could have an impact on visitor numbers I would have thought which would be a daft idea. I do know the government is desperate to gain more tax revenue and where possible through non-French citizens who don't have a vote in France.

It's part of the budget mesures...vat is going from 5,5% to 19,6% on attractions (not just theme parks) to bring them all in to line. At present there are 2 levels just like there was concerning restaurants. But you pay a tax at present like on everything here

Cigs and alchool are going up too (now and start of next year) and drinks containg added sugar to combat obesity. New taxation concerning companies, real estate and fortunes, reduction in overtime payments and much more

I think that is slightly unfair to say that the governement are looking to hit mainly none French voters with these mesures as every French citizen is concerned by them and it will make an unpopular governement even more unpopular

Disney and Asterix will ride it out without much pb, it's the small family run parks (that the tourist rarely sees) that will suffer

Thanks Carrie, I hoped you might know! Well that doesn’t sound too bad then and I know there are lots of other unpopular tax increases for the French population too and of course home-grown tourists as well. Just a panic attack on my part!

For the moment there isn't a date when it will be put in place and as DLP have already a special agreement with the governement dating back to the beginning concerning tax and financial issues it's possible it wont be implemented there

DLP have never needed an occasion to put up prices as the twice yearly increases show, plus the seasonal increases on snacks that drop again after the summer, and just look at the parking which went from 8€ to 15€ in the space of 8 months
