New free dining offer yeaaah

Here's the article (hope it's okay to repost):

New free dining offer to be released this week?
There's been a great deal of chatter on the Internet about a possible free dining offer to be released on Wednesday. There seems to be agreement that the dates will be from October 2 through December 17, with blackout dates from October 9–23 (Columbus Day week and PGA Tournament week), November 6–12 (Veterans Day week/"Jersey Week"), November 20–26 (Thanksgiving week), and December 4–10 (Pop Warner week).

Stays would be a minimum of 3 nights and a maximum of 14 nights. Guests staying at value resorts would get the Quick Service Dining Plan for free, and guests at moderate or deluxe resorts would get the standard Disney Dining Plan for free. It's also been reported that the deal will be able to be booked starting Wednesday up through the date of arrival.

According to our sources, there is a free dining offer coming, but the information is only partially correct. Unfortunately, we won't be able to get the exact details of the offer until it becomes available on Wednesday, so we'll do a little speculating of our own.

Days of the week – Last year's similar offer had the discounts run on periods from Friday through Thursday. This offer shows Sunday through Saturday. Since it's likely that people would be able to adjust their travel schedule to arrive on Friday in order to get the free dining, it's a reasonable bet that the actual dates will run from Friday through Thursday again this year.

Length of booking window – Last year, the offer was available through the last day of the offer in 2010. However, that offer also included dates through September 2011. If this year's offer is indeed only through December 17, it's quite possible that the booking window will close on October 1, the day before the offer begins (and the last day of Disney's fiscal year). There could be another booking window to open later if not enough rooms were filled the first time.

Booking window start date – Recent offers have provided Disney Visa cardholders with a short window to book before the general public. If this pattern holds, look for Wednesday's release to be for Disney Visa cardholders only, with the general public getting access on Saturday or Sunday.

Thanks for the information.

As much as I would love FD, it will not change anything if I don't get it.

This will be the first trip to Disney World since my dh passed away in 2009 and the first time being there at Christmas for the grandkids. I didn't think there would even be a chance of FD during Christmas so didn't even plan on that (though everyone loves a little pixie dust, lol ).

I just know that Raymond is in heaven right now telling his brothers and dad "OMG!! I can't believe she is paying that much to stay at the Wilderness Lodge , she must be crazy! (and that was his favorite hotel)".

It will probably the only time we ever go at this time of year again so we are going to enjoy.

Strictly Disney TA here, and I'm slapping hand to my forehead right now on this one. Airfare is soooo much cheaper if you do NOT book through disney. Yes, the TA makes a commission from it now, but geez, I guess I'm one of the good guys and tells them to make reservations on their own to save money. I deal with mostly military (being military myself) and saving money is the #1 priority here.

I took a gander at the numbers, and it wasn't any different booking airfare separate. BUT, because she did purchase airfare in the package, my question is how exactly things would be affected if I went on another reservation. Would there be a change fee? I still will be going... just be a part of a different reservation. But my airfare is tied with that reservation. :confused3
Confusing, I know. But I wasn't exactly... "informed" of the decision until things were said and done.

Havoc315, the Friday-Thursday thing has me confused but you seem to understand it. If my dates are Friday 10/7 to Saturday 10/15, I would most likely be able to get the FD, right? TIA

No..... I'd expect the blackout date to start on 10/7.

But remember, I'm making a big assumption -- I'm assuming that the OP is basically right about everything, except that the dates will actually run Friday-Thursday. In which case, the last day would be Thursday 10/6.

Your week is projected to have moderate crowds. So if (BIG IF) it is Disney's intention to make that a blackout week, it would be illogical to offer dining discounts on Sat 10/8, allowing people to get the promotion for the whole week.

Remember tho --- It's possible that the OP is right about everything. In which case, you get the FD. It's possible the OP is wrong about everything, and nobody gets FD. Its possible there are less blackout dates. Who really knows, until Wednesday.

Is it just me or is everyone losing their minds over this? While I'm just as pleased as everyone else if there is a new promo coming out, what is the panic? We could have booked the same rooms last year 3 months after the FD offer came out. These rooms are not going to be sold out in one morning. There are peope changing flights already and people getting up at 5am. Plus FD is really only a good value at the Mod resorts. The deluxe resorts are still way overpriced even with FD. Everyone calm down! :)

I wouldn't say anyone is "losing their mind" over this, they're just excited and full of anticipation. There has been talk about certain resorts having lower availability of the discount and most people around here agree that it's in your best interest to book when it comes out if you're dead-set on a certain resort/room with the discount. And it's not small potatoes. I mean for our 3 person party the free dining savings is nearly $900 and it's worth it to me to be on top of the ball here.

Thanks! I see what you are saying. Guess we'll find out the answers to ALL our questions soon enough, lol.

This is almost like Christmas Eve and waiting for Santa to come, lol. :santa:

Would you have to change travel dates? The change fee for air should be no different than it would booking directly with the airline, Disney was just the conduit for that booking so they are more than likely to need to be the conduit for any changes. If it is just you moving to a new reservation, there should not be any fees if you are still using the ticket.

The TA likely did not make any commission on the air portion but it is easier for her to book it as part of a package if the pricing is the same. Disney doesn't pay commission on air nor do most airlines anymore.

I think most of us are just enjoying the excitement after waiting forever for some sort of deal! I wouldn't go changing flights or hotels just yet, but I think its ok to be a little excited :)

I know some people say FD is not a great deal, but we are staying at the GF with NO discount (my dad's first trip in 5 years and he doesn't want to stay anywhere else. AND he's footing the bill:rolleyes:) so at least its something! For 4 adults and 1 child, it will save us quite a bit.

I agree with you.

We are staying at Wilderness Lodge with no discount either and I didn't realize how much it went up during Christmas. I really wanted to stay at the Polynesian but knew it would be even more so went with the next favorite.

My fingers are crossed that FD comes out, and that the blackout dates are a day off. We are scheduled to come in on Sun. Dec 18th and if it is true that FD ends on the 17th, it would be worth it for us to change our air for a day earlier. A family of four adults, we would save over $1500 for our stay. That is quite a bit of change. Even with the price of the air changes and an extra night at POFQ we would still save over a $1000. SO worth it, as well as an extra day at Disney. That being said, I did book an additional ADR for that time, with fear that once everyone books, the ADR's would be next and at Christmas they are hard enough to come by! We are not making any changes until I am able to obtain a FD reservation then my DH can change the air. Having the extra ADRs is just insurance!

I agree, don't change your flights yet. I'm sure Disney reserves the right to change their mind about the FD offer up until the last minute before they make the actual announcement!

I don't know how free dining is not a good value. Maybe since you can't combine a room only discount with a FD code when you have to choose one over the other the room only discount is greater? :confused3 The basic dining plan is $46 per day per adult. It is just DH and myself and we would spend WAY more than $46 each per day if we paid out of pocket. So we always do the dining plan, even if it's not free. Free is just the icing on the cake!

Or maybe we are just not big eaters. When it's hot and we are walking around all day, we have no desire to eat three full meals - too heavy! So we don't really eat meals other than what we get with the dining plan so I guess that saves us money too. We use the quick service meal for brunch and then the snack we use to tide us over until our table service dinner.

I've read every last post on this thread and a few others. I must say I'm really impressed with everyones willingness to help out their fellow Disney traveler.

And I'm excited about this FD and really hope it happens. For my family and everyone else's family who needs a break in these economically challenging times. I'm figuring I should be able to add an extra two days onto our reservation because of the FD savings.

It couldn't of happened at a better time for us either as we are staying at Yacht Club. I haven't stayed at a deluxe since the Poly back when I was 15 years old. Yes, that's 30 years ago. And my daughter has never stayed at a deluxe resort. We drool and dream over WL and the BW all the time! My parents are elderly and will love the boardwalk area (I'm hoping ) lol. Lots for them to look at and do. They will only visit two parks in our visit so I would of had to purchase two tickets anyway. My DD and I have annual passes.

I do have a question please, is there a way to see if there are any conventions booked during our early December visit? I didn't think of that when booking the Yacht Club and now I'm wondering.

I do love the energy on these boards, its a whole world of people who get as much of a thrill out of the planning the vacation as I do.

I'm getting excited for Wednesday...crossing my fingers something gets announced. ADRs are booked for 2 different scenarios depending on what ends up being announced. Of course, the DIS will have first dibs on whatever ones won't be needed. I was shocked at how easily I was able to get into every restaurant choice even as recently as a few days ago.

You haven't been around here too long, but in the past there have definitely been resorts and rooms that have sold out on the first day of a Free Dining promo. Does it happen every time? No. Has it happened in the past? Yes. Pop, and POR, I know for a fact, have sold out on the first day of a FD promo has come out for the public.

Maybe this will help with all of the reoccurring questions and misunderstandings that keep popping up about the WDW Free Dining Promotion and Promotion Guidelines (Of course, this info will be based on Free Dining Guidelines for the past 7 years, Disney can change their policies at any time.):

FREE DINING FACTS AND INFORMATION

The Free Dining Promo/Discount was first introduced in the fall of 2005 and up until the fall of 2009, was, basically, just offered during the timeframe of mid August to the first of October (height of hurricane season) and included the Basic/Plus Dining for all levels of WDW resort. Starting in the fall of 2009, they offered a second Free Dining Promo/Discount that covered dates between October 1st and the third week of December and they also started including the Quick Service DDP for Value resorts and the Basic/Plus DDP for Moderate and Deluxe Resorts. With the popularity of the Free Dining Promo, last year, for the first time, WDW offered multiple Free Dining discounts during this year that included many value season/low crowd weeks.

To take advantage of a Free Dining (FD) discount you must be booked at a Disney-owned resort and purchase a Magic Your Way Package that includes room, tickets and dining with a 2 day base ticket purchase. The FD promos have a 3 day booking minimum and a 14 day booking maximum. You can not include Annual Passes or previously purchased tickets for Disney or any other outside ticketing agent.

The current FD promos have included the Quick Service Dining Plan for Value Resorts and the Basic/Plus Dining Plan for Moderate and Deluxe Resorts. You can not downgrade to the Quick Service Dining if you are staying at a Moderate or Deluxe Resort - there have been reports that, once in the parks, guests have been able to trade/convert Table Service (TS) credits for Counter Service (CS) credits, but this is not advertised on the WDW website and should not be considered WDW "policy." You can however pay the monetary difference and upgrade to the Basic/Plus DDP or the Deluxe DDP if you are staying at a Value Resort and can upgrade to the Deluxe Plan if you are staying at a Moderate or Deluxe Resort. The Deluxe Dining Plan has never been included in any free dining promos. Here is a breakdown of FD upgrade costs for 2011:

Upgrade from Quick Service DDP $34.99/$11.99 to Basic/Plus DDP $45.99/$11.99
$11.00 per adult 10+; $0.00 per child 3 - 9

Upgrade from Quick Service DDP $34.99/$11.99 to Deluxe DDP $78.99/$21.99
$44.00 per adult 10+; $10.00 per child 3 - 9

Upgrade from Basic/Plus DDP $45.99/$11.99 to Deluxe DDP $78.99/$21.00
$33.00 per adult 10+; $10.00 per child 3 - 9

Your check in date must fall within the dates of the FD promo to apply the discount to your reservation. If your check in dates do not fall within the FD dates, you can not apply the discount - even if every single night of your vacation falls within the promo, except for your check in date, you can not take advantage of the FD promo.

If any of your vacation dates fall within a FD promo dates you can receive the FD discount for your entire vacation stay, up to 14 nights, even if you are checking in on the last day of a FD promo, you can still recieve the discount for up to 14 nights.

If your vacation starts a couple of days before a FD promo, it's possible to do a Split Stay - meaning, you can do a room only reservation for 1 to 3 nights at the beginning of your vacation, pay for your food out-of-pocket for those days, and be allowed to pick up your PACKAGE TICKETS up to 3 days early at guest relations at any of the four parks or at Downtown Disney (For further info on picking up tickets early, please see Diser, CheshireFigment's, Ticket Sticky on the top the Themeparks Board.)

If you already have an existing reservation that falls within the dates of a FD promo, you can call and have the FD code added to modify that reservation. You can not add the FD code on line, you will need to call WDW Reservations, 407-W-Disney. You do NOT have to rebook, your reservation number does not change and there is not a fee - if you are within your 45 day window, they can charge you a $50.00 change fee, but, most FD promos come out before the 45 day window, so this shouldn't be an issue. If you have already paid your package in full, WDW will refund you the monetary difference - this can take up to 2 billing cycles or about 2 months. Each resort is only allotted so many FD rooms, so if you call and your resort is sold out of FD promo rooms, you can change your resort and do not have to cancel or pay a fee and your reservation number stays the same. If your existing reservation is a room only reservation, then you would have toTy cancel and rebook under a Magic Your Way Package to receive the FD discount.

Typically, in the past, other than last's August FD announcement, Disney Visa holders ere given the FD Promo Code three (3) days before it opens to the general public. In the past, all you had to do to get the Disney Visa FD discount was put $200.00 down with your card, the balance did not have to be put on the Disney Visa.

If you already have Advance Dining Reservations (ADRs) changing or modifying a reservation does not effect or cancel your ADRs. You would have to go on-line or call WDW Dining to cancel ADRs, even if you completely cancel a vacation/reservation. Remember, anyone can make ADRs, even offsite guests and don't have to be linked to your reservation in any way. If you have already booked and paid for any restaurants and/or dinner shows, and then a FD promo/discount is released, you can contact Disney Dining once you modify your reservation to include the FD code and give them your reservation number, and they will credit you the amount you pre-paid. This type of refund also takes 2 billing cycles or about 2 months.

Hopefully this info will give everyone an overview of the current Free Dining Guidelines.

Yeah, but are they going to offer the FD promo for 2012?

That's why I said it with a smile! It doesn't matter, but I wanted to reasure people that there will be rooms left a week or two from now for those that can't book in the first hour.
Sorry, but you don't know that for sure. No more than we all know if this rumor is even true. Just a bunch of hopeful speculating right now.

If it would fit, I would! :-)

Question for the experts out there. I already have a reservation for POR November 27th thru December 3rd including tickets and dining for $ 2102.81. If the code does come out can I call and have that added to my reservation? I had originally booked a room only with a discount code and then upgraded. Was not sure if would still be able to get the free dining.

Thanks in advance for the information.
