New, First Time DVC owners

It's good to see someone who can reflect and change their mind based on new information.

I would say I'm sad we won't be neighbors, but it's not really true or at least not important, as you remain kindred spirits with the DVCers.

Have you tried renting points? That's a sure-fire way of seeing whether you and the kids would be happy with a purchase.

BTW, don't be afraid that DVC will become less affordable in the future. I'm sure there will be ways for you to enjoy membership in the future. If you hang out here on this board for a few years first, you'll be that much smarter when you do take the plunge, if you do.

Thanks :)

No we haven't tried renting points. For our girls we'll need to take a tour of AK, see the grounds, then they'll be more inclined to go with it. Renting points would, right now result in a mutiny b/c we still wouldn't be at the Poly :)

We've been 'looking into' DVC for almost 5 years now :lmao: affordable is a relative term. It was certainly 'more' affordable 5 years ago. Except we couldn't afford it then. We have looked into resale. And we could possibly go with that in the future. But DH was pretty set on direct. We'll see where we end up in a year or so.

We might not be 'neighbours' but we'll still be there (nearly) every sept. You'll know us as the lone family of obvious tourists dressed head to toe in Disney gear, complete with Pal Mickey, happily strolling along eating Mickey bars, and dole whips, rather than dashing madly yelling at each other to hurry up and have fun.

I knew what you meant :) about splitting the points. But honestly we still don't see it being an issue. We didn't buy them to deed them to our children, even if it is an eventuality. We also didn't buy them with the intent to have an easier/higher resale value.

We bought them for us now. We bought them for our retirement. We bought them to be used - and we bought them to be easy :thumbsup2

In the future we may buy other contracts and those would be more strategic in nature, but that'll depend a lot on what our vacations look like in 10 years or so. Right now I can't see us adding more points when the number we have can get us so much. But we'll see what the future actually holds.

Welcome Home!:goodvibes...oh I finished reading the thread..sooo....welcome home LATER :)

It's OT to the thread, but I assume you've had him read the various threads on the forum on direct vs resale, right?

BTW, if you're holding out for the Poly resort I'm sure you know you have a while to wait since we haven't even heard rumors yet and also that buying direct is probably going to be the way to go for a newly opened DVC resort, so there's no sense fighting about resale at this early stage! :)

We'll be looking for you!

BTW, funny you should mention the Mickey bars. For years I used to wander the parks hitting every ice cream novelty cart looking for the Mickey ice cream sandwiches. At some point I finally figured out they only sold them at Epcot. A few years later they started selling them everywhere which was something of a disappointment to me because my arcane knowledge of where they sold the Mickey ice cream sandwich had become OBE. Plus I had gained 20 pounds so I couldn't take advantage of the widespread availability of the ice cream sandwich!
