New Fireworks, What's the trick to scoring well?

hitting all the fireworks on flawless and getting all the bonus points...

I definitely score higher when I just go for flawless and let a bunch of them go up without being hit.

I finally figured that out yesterday and gave up on getting that bonus thing for now... Too many fireworks coming flying out now to try and go for those.. Need to work on flawless as much as possible!!
