New DVC Short Stays

Shide....I was able to get on with one computer but not the other. The whole system is messed up. If I were you, I would forget about it for a few weeks and then check back.

This is where it takes me. Like I said, hopefully there's a fix since it seems like everyone else can get on it just fine.

I read your posts and wanted to share your pain as I am in the exact same predicament as you . . . it is absolutley frustrating to not even be able to access the page.

I, too, have tried everything suggested to get it to work . . . no such luck:sad2:

Consider yourself lucky. At least you can view the reservation page. Whenever I log in and try to see if anything's available it takes me to the generic DVC/II page with just a list of resorts. I've called MS, logged in and out, etc.. Pretty much everything i've seen suggested and nothing works. MS is supposed to get back to me, hopefully there's a fix for this.

I have the same problem. I hope they figure something out soon.

I don't know what the deal is, but if anyone is able to find anything related to FL Keys please let me know. I am not booking anything I just want to see how available things are down there. This will help my wife and I decide if investing more points into DVC is right for us. Thanks :)
In general, II doesn't have much availability in the Keys. Since the Short Stays program seems to be surplus II inventory, I would not expect the Keys to ever show up there at all.

In general, buying DVC points in order to exchange via II is a very poor deal. These "Short Stays" seem even worse than regular II exchanges using DVC points, since the short stays seem to be for surplus inventory only, at pretty much the same price per night (in DVC points) as regular trades.

I own a pile of timeshares, in addition to my DVC points, and do lots of II trading. If you want some suggestions, PM or email me.

Hi Judy, I'd love some suggestions. If what your saying is true it's very unfortunate. I didn't want to branch off into another TS when my family is already invested into one. I thought it would be simple to exchange in and out of II though DVC.

I've had my eye on the Hyatt Vacation Club for sometime, but with this feature of DVC I've put the brakes on. I am not ready to invest just yet as I have little bit more saving to do but would like to learn as much as I could. Thanks!

I can't email you or post my email address yet as I am still new. You can email me at chuckybear at gmail.com it's all one word and just use the correct email symbol, thanks!

It's not that II is a bad system (although this new "Short Stays" feature really doesn't seem worthwhile.) In general, II is a good company. The problem is, the cost in DVC points for an II trade is really quite high for what you get, in my opinion. DVC is a very high-end timeshare system, so almost any trade through II will be to a less expensive timeshare. Also, many of the nicest timeshares in II belong to systems that give preference to their own owners. So, even though DVC is a great system, you'll have trouble trading into the Marriott Maui because Marriott owners get first dibs on any deposits from there, trouble trading into Westin St. John because Starwood (Westin/Sheraton) owners get first dibs on any weeks from there, etc.

Also, I really wish you could search II online with DVC, if only just to see what II will offer me for my DVC points! I love going on II's website to see what's available; I got a couple of trades that way that I wouldn't have asked for because I had no idea they'd be available. But, currently you can't search II's inventory online with DVC points.

I've been very, very happy with II, but I've never given them any of my DVC points. I learned very early on that it was much more cost-effective to buy another timeshare just for trading. I bought an inexpensive week just for II trades; I bought a fixed week so I didn't have to learn another system involving points or reservations.

As for Hyatt, I've heard that it's a good system, but I don't know much about it.

Thanks Judy, I really appreciate the info. Your probably right, the amount of points you give up isn't equal to the DVC points. I am kinda of lost as to what I should do.

Agreeing entirely!

A "sighting" was posted this morning on the Timeshare User's Group (TUG) forum for two weeks in Longboat Key. I found both weeks using my normal II account - but neither using DVC's "Short Stay" feature.

Edited to add: Further searching through normal II account shows weeks in Key West (9/26 and 11/14), Marathon (9/6 and 10/25), and Key Largo (8/22). I haven't tried searching for these through DVC's Short Stays.

TUG's "Sightings" board is a members-only feature.

As I understand it, the short stays tend to only be available for last-minute inventory. Something out to September/November is not likely to be available under the short-stays program.

And, I'd add that the short-stay program is a particularly poor use of points in "value" terms. Regular II exchanges can be okay if you are exchanging into a high-demand property that can command strong rental rates, but none of these make sense. You can easily rent this inventory for (much) less than the street value of the points at $10pp.

Directly from the DVC website:

Want a quick weekend escape to a romantic hideaway, an alpine ski resort or an inviting sun-drenched beach? Find a fun getaway and enjoy the convenience and spontaneity of booking a 3-6 night stay online, directly through Interval International. Short Stays are designed to provide you with a great selection of destinations available within 30 days from the time of your search. Try a search now to see where a Short Stay exchange can take you in the next month!

This is unused inventory from the hotels....kind of like priceline, etc. There have only been a few destinations listed each time I looked at the link.
