Use the board tools to look at all of your posts - count them ( only ones not posted in the Rent/Trade area ) - any month you have over 8 posts counts - you need to have over 8 posts in each of the last 6 contiguous months to qualify.
Wow....I'm on the disboards nearly EVERY day but don't just post to post...I only post when I genuinely have info that someone else can use. I find that amazing that I would not be allowed to post on R/T with the current rules since I'm very active in being on the boards but just not posting. There are so many other people that have already said what "I" would say so no reason to chime in. Definitely hurts those of us that have been here for quite a while but not posted enough each month even though we read the boards nearly every day.

This is pretty much me too. I also will add "I agree w/ pp..." type pp St, but not for the post count, just because I do agree. However, I might do it for both reasons, now.

Does this mean someone can book and rent a reservation for Christmas week TODAY...a practice I thought was prohibited??

i have added the gold plan veteran option for $24.95. are the instructions on how we rent/trade post without being rejected?

thanks

steve

In response to comments and suggestions regarding the February 1, 2011 changes on the Rent/Trade Board there is now another option available.

For those who have not been able to actively participate by posting on the DIS over the past 6 months, we have added another option allowing purchase of the ability to have a thread post on the DVC Rent/Trade Board. Details may be found at http://www.wdwinfo.com/disney-vacation-club/dvcforumplan.htm .

Existing DISboard members already registered for at least 6 months may purchase the ability to submit threads. Those registered less than 6 months may also purchase the same ability at a higher cost. A special logo will be added in your board profile identifying you as having purchased this option.

Please wait and submit your Rent/Trade thread after the icon/avatar appears under your user name, otherwise the mods approving the threads do not know that you have paid.

But your situation is exactly the reason why we now have a pay option. People were upset that they were expected to post on a regular basis to use the rent/trade board and now DIS members who want only to read posts, not write posts, have the option of paying to rent points.

So, the mods listened to everyone who said they did not have the time or the desire to participate in the boards from a contributing standpoint on a regular basis and gave them a way to rent their points without having to be a regular "poster".

Seems like a great option, especially since the fee is a yearly fee--basically the equivalent of 3 to 5 points.

Fair, I guess in that everyone can pay. Fair that now the regular contributor has to now pay, no that is not fair.
Sorry, but this is one of my pet peeves.

"Fair" means "everyone has the same opportunity." And, in the case of spec rentals, everyone has the same opportunity---that is, everyone with an "old enough" username. Pay, and you can post them.

You are disappointed that longtime contributors with substantial post counts don't get to post spec rentals without paying. I get that. But "I find that disappointing" is not the same as "it's not fair."

I think the DIS should share some of the money collected with the R/T moderators for all their work maintaining the R/T forum.

As the Borg say - "you will be assimilated, resistance is futile"

I decided to post a new DVC point rental to see if I would pass - nope ... FAIL!

Here is the message I received:

While at this time you have well over the minimum of 50 non-Rent/Trade posts made within the past 6 months they have not been evenly distributed over those 6 months with 4 posts from Dec 21-Jan20, 3 from Jan 21-Feb 20 and none from Feb 21-Mar 20. I'm sorry your thread cannot be validated at this time.

Thus, I decided that I will pay the $24.95 to get the Gold logo and attempt to post again.

I do NOT view this as a fair or not-fair issue, but I do think the STRICT DISTRIBUTION requirement is a little harsh (but those are the rules). Fortunately, DIS has given me an option to bypass the requirement via the "Good old American Way"....pay for the feature.

The way I look at this is that it is a cost that I can pass on to a renter via higher rental costs or simply another cost to do business. For example, I use paypal to accept payments and they charge 3% or so.

Thus, if I rent 100 points at $11pp then the $24.95 represents 2.3%
However, if I rent 500 points, the cost of the logo is only 0.45% and If I rent 1,000 points, the cost is only 0.2%

In reality, the cost for this option is minor as compared to NOT being able to rent my points and loosing them.

I am still confused about the "spec" renting. So basically someone who has never been on this board can come in, pay $25, and rent a pre-reserved holiday week months in advance now?

I'd appreciate clarification.

Thanks,

Katherine

No, that is not correct.

Anyone who meets the 50 posts/6 months requirement is able to offer up to 2 existing reservations (within 30 days of arrival) per year without cost. Those members unable to meet the 50 post requirement spaced over the last 6 months are able to purchase the Gold Veteran Plan for $24.95 which allows them the same options for a year. New DIS registrants (registered less than 6 months) are able to purchase the same options for $49.95 per year.

Posters registered on the DIS for a minimum of 6 months and in good standing may purchase the ability to offer up to 3 existing reservations per year and those reservations may be more than 30 days before arrival. The cost for the Premium Plan is $199.95 .

From the DVC RENT/TRADE Membership Plans page:

Premium Plan - This option allows members to bypass the restriction of having a minimum of 50 non-Rent/Trade board posts (that contribute to discussions on the DIS forums) evenly spread over the last 6 months. In addition, Premium members will be allowed to post up to 3 existing reservations outside of the 30 day window. Includes an icon under your DISboards profile.

Paid DVC Rent/Trade Premium Membership ◦$199.95 per year - For existing DISboards members that have had their DIS User name for at least 6 months.

So, basically pay 199.95 and you're now allowed to do the spec renting of peak times...

Well, its all about business people. It started with the rental guy ;) paying for ads. Now the DIS boards will be able to earn from rentals too. Yes, some of us miss the old days but again its just business. At least we dont have to pay to use the DISboards-Yet?!:worship:

Just curious, since now Disboards is taking $ for some rental process does that mean there will be a reference board as well?
How involved will the owner/mods be with rental process that went haywire?
Will there be a difference in handling the complaints between new owners who paid for the ad vs. regular active members vs. regular active members posting spec rentals?

The same as before. As it states on the membership plan page:

"DISboards will not intervene in any issues resulting from these private transactions. Purchase of these membership plans do not gain the endorsement of the DIS in any way."

I too was recently affected by the R/T board posting rules when I needed to rent out a reservation I could no longer take. I've been active on these boards for over 6 years but had a period of a couple months recently where I didn't post much. I had never rented before and really wanted to use the DISboards due to the trust I had in them after so many years. I got hit by the restrictions when I needed the R/T board the most.

Rather than sit and complain about something I had no immediate control over I did what everyone here can do if they don't want to pay, take your rental needs elsewhere. I went to one of the other DVC-related boards out there, posted the reservation for free and within 2 days had a renter.

I still love the DISboards and know how hard the moderators have it trying to please everyone all the time. I think they do a great job and appreciate that they truly listen to member complaints. Hopefully the few remaining kinks in this new system can be worked out quickly and to most people's satisfaction. At least now we all have another option if we want to use these boards for our rental needs.

I think your heart is in the right place, Mike, but that might create an appearance of a conflict of interest that would be way more trouble than it was worth.

the new plan is well thought out and easily executed, imho.

basically, one just needs to be a contributer to the DIS, whether with infornmation or money. either way, the boards get something from those that use the service in return for their rental advertisements.

well done :)
