New DVC member/what's needed in rooms?

I'm a newbie to the DVC (though not WDW itself) and was wondering what I need to bring/buy for my room. I mean, laundry detergent, my own soaps, coffee, coffee filters, etc. stuff like that.

I'm one of those weird people that likes to bring a fitted sheet for the bed. Nothing drives me more crazy than when the bottom sheet gets wadded up and I find that I'm sleeping on the bare mattress. Without daily maid service it also makes it easier to make the bed. We bring ones with a bright pattern, so we remember it's ours, and just put it over the "fitted" sheet already there.

We do bring a supply of coffee in the filters, it seems easier to us than coffee, filters. Sometimes there are some creamers in the little basket, but this doesn't seem to be consistent, so if you like creamers, bring them, I do. DH likes to use milk, and so we buy a small container of milk for him.

The 1 bedroom and larger villas come with a 1 use box of laundry detergent, I stretched it out for 2 uses, it was just for light things like bathing suits.

We could have used another bar soap in the 2 bedroom (for the sink area that's with the whirlpool), but we borrowed one from the studio portion.

That's what I remember. We did bring a dishwasher tablet for use through the whirlpool, this was recommended here, the water wasn't gross as some people had mentioned that it was for them, so they said to be sure to wash the whirlpool.

That's all I remember.

I wondered what everyone used to clean the whirlpool - just fill it, drop in the dishwasher tablet and let it run?

Yes it cleans out the water in the whirlpool's pipes. Our tub itself has always been immaculate but god only knows where that water in the pipes has been!

There should be a packing list on the boards somewhere, i don't have the link on this computer. Try a search, that should help.

However, it depends on how long you are staying as to what to bring, they do start you off with some soaps (dish and bath bars) and coffee/detergent for one run. Don't sweat it though, if you run out or forget something you can get it right at the resort store most likely. You have the gist of it though.

We bring powdered iced tea and juice mix and I don't believe they supply a pitcher (at least I'm drawing a blank on this) ? I know we brought a cheap .99 cent plastic pitcher with us one trip.

We also bring a fitted sheet for the bed. However, we use their 'bottom' sheet to 'triple' sheet the bed. We put this sheet over the blankets to give a more luxury feel. AND we don't touch the blankets that were last cleaned......?

We pick up a small bottle of bleach to use with the dishwasher detergent to clean the whirlpool. Someone gave directions on how to properly clean the pipes some time ago. I saved it, but it's on another computer than the one I'm on now. It involved 2 steps, one with hot water and the other with cold. I don't remember which step(s) used the bleach and/or dishwasher detergent.

I also like to bring a nightlight for the bathroom. I can avoid turning on the light (and being blinded :sunny: ) with a nightlight.

Last time we picked up a VCR tape to use. It was great being able to tape favorite shows and watch when convenient for us. We'll bring onw with us next time.

Salt and pepper. They used to be provided, but I don't think they are any more (too much worry that some idiot may tamper with them :sad2: ). If you want them, bring them.

We did have a pitcher in our BWV 1-br last December.

Ok....thanks....so this is standard. We either didn't have one or couldn't find it one year---maybe 2002 ? So now I think we're just in the habit of automatically bringing one.

Either that or we had one that was left by someone else. ;)

In a studio, I know they have coffee, coffee maker. But what about cream & sugar or sweet n low? Do they provide any of that, or do I bring my own?

Yes....but only a few packets of each. I'd bring extra if you're going to be there more than a couple days.

The first time we heard "Welcome Home" we went overboard on the kitchen items.
Read on the boards that the items were provided, but it is easier to bring them just in case.

We have a "kitchen" suitcase that stays packed all year round.
We have coffee and coffee filters.
We bring two plates and two sets of real silverware.
We bought a griddle that we use for breakfast. Fry ham and we take little potato pancake patties.

We bring quart size ziplock bags and we bought three gladware containers for 99 cents that we take with us.

The studios come stocked with paper plates, paper bowls, plastic silverware, napkins and paper towels, kitchen towel and dish soap.
They have real coffee mugs and real glasses.
Wine opener, can opener, toaster and coffee pot.

Since we have seen what is provided, we leave our coffee mugs, juice glasses and some dishes behind.
But since we eat out at two offsite restuarants and always bring leftovers home, we wanted the real plates to warm the food up in.
Hope that helps.

coffee filters are the Mr. Coffee basket type, not the cone type. Little ones for the studios, big ones for the other units.

Are there any coffee filters already provided in the room?

**Do all the DVC units only have paper plates and plastic silverware? YIKES!

We also bring a Britta-type water pictcher, so we have fresh, tasty cold water in the fridge. Use it to refill the water bottles we carry with us in the parks.

On the mugs provided - they are small. If you are used to a nice big cup of coffee/tea in the morning, you'll have to refill a couple of times - or bring a bigger mug with you!

No, only the studios as stated.

You don't have to bring extra - if you're willing to walk or drive to the nearest food court whenever you need more....
