Hello everyone,

My DH and I are brand new DVC members...we of course bought into SSR! We're so excited!!! :bounce: :hyper: :hyper: :bounce:

We haven't closed yet...haven't sent our contracts back yet, just got them recently. But I already have a question that I thought you all could help me with.

We live in Northern Virginia and a friend of mine is getting married in May 2004. To help out with her bachelorette party, I was going to book rooms at the Jefferson in DC on my DVC points for the night of her party.

I was wondering if anyone had stayed at the Jefferson on DVC points before and what it was like? Would you recommend it?

Thanks, I'm looking forward to being a DVC member!!!

Although this is not an answer to your question, the Jefferson is a Loews hotel. If you have an entertainment book, they will give you 50% off the rooms. Also, there are always promotions. Here is the link: Loews Hotel info

Looks like a great hotel. we want to stay there sometime.

My husband and I stayed at the Jefferson on points in Aug 2002. Very very nice hotel, old world. A bit stuffy, though. The bellhop brought up our bag (small bag because we were only staying 2 nights) and then showed us around the room. The room was small and really didn't need showing. But that's the type of hotel it is. The bathroom was also small - you had to walk in and close the door to use the toilet. We also chose the room with the least amount of points because we knew we'd really only be sleeping there. We didn't eat any meals there because it was very expensive. If I remember correctly, our room went for $265/night. Hope this helps.

By the way, Welcome Home

We're new members as well - I thought we couldn't use any of our points whether staying at WDW or elsewhere until after SSR actually opened in May/June 2004. Can we really trade for a stay before this date?

Note that you cannot reserve any DVC stays prior to the Expected Occupancy Date on your Purchase Agreement. Unless you've been sitting on that paperwork for a few weeks, you are likely buying into building #2. This building has an expected occupancy date of 6/1/04. If that's the case, you will not be able to book a May 2004 stay.

If you did get into building 1, you won't be able to make any ressies prior to May 17, '04.

It is a beautiful hotel, and the staff is of Disney quality in terms of service. We asked for a tour as DVC members and were well taken care of. Each room is different, the ones we saw were pretty large, colonial decorating is outstanding, and there is pretty convenient access to the Metro, which provides access to all downtown Washington. We ended up walking there I believe from the White House (pretty long meeting there, they needed some advice on some matters of state, then we started having a few drinks, then the vice president wants to see me, etc., you how how it goes) which wasn't too bad a walk. It has access to an athletic club which is across the street or at a different site, no pools onsite (which matters to us with kids). Our conclusion was that if we were going to Washington with the kids, we'd probably opt for a hotel more downtown with a pool, but that is just us. It's not a bad way to use points, the place has lots of charm, it's cozy, nice amenities and historical.

You can't use DVC points for this hotel, but our favorite hotel in DC is the Willard. Lately they have had really great rates over the weekend... generally you can get a rate for about $10 more that includes breakfast (we used it for room service, it was fabulous, our bill otherwise would have been more like $80 for breakfast). This hotel is SERIOUS luxury and we felt SOOO pampered there. We had a "standard" room, basically one of the cheapest, and had the most fabulous bed (felt like sleeping on a cloud), a huge walk in closet, a fairly large bathroom with a separate bathtub and walk in shower, turn down service etc. We REALLY enjoyed it and are looking forward to going back at some point.

Thanks to everyone for all the replies. I didn't realize the timing would keep us from using our points yet. We are in building #2, so we won't be able to use our points until after I'll need it for the bachelorette party. Bummer. :(

As for the Jefferson, I will probably have to stay there sometime, even though we only live 30 mins from DC.

Lisa F - The Jefferson is listed on the Concierge List of hotels in our member guide...maybe it's a new addition to the list. The Willard is really nice, been there for a business meeting.

Well, it was a thought, we'll just have to figure something else out for the BP. Means I get to save those points for me and DH to use on ourselves...::yes::
