**NEW** - DVC Community Board

I'am still trying to figure out why we needed to split the board in the first place. It is now more confusing as to just what belongs where. If it ain't broke don't fix it.. I guess I will post as before and if it gets moved, well it gets moved..smjj

It's simple, the primary board is a trip planning board. How does an announcement from someone that they have just purchased additional points so everyone can congratulate them help someone plan their trip.

"Gee Honey, TinksButtocks just added on, I guess we better make sure we visit Epcot this trip!"

Kinda silly, isn't it?

Then maybe the "old" board needs to be renamed to "DVC Trip Planning Board" and the new board "DVC Discussion Board" to help differentiate them -- although frankly I didn't have any issue with seeing a mixture of topics on a single board...

DVC Community Board

We are not entertaining any change in name of our DIS Boards at this time.

This thread was started to introduce the new DVC Community Board. Anyone feeling the need to make suggestions otherwise, can feel free to email the Webmasters of the DIS. Thank you.

Wow! You must have been reading my mind. I was just thinking about this last week and how a separate DVC community board would be a nice addition. Great news!

Please note that the DVC Community Board is accessible from the "Jump to a Forum" drop down links in addition to the DISboards home page.

Hi,
Just returned from a WDW and DCL trip. I posted to these boards about my OKW stay on 11/7 (see here):
<<<<Hi all.....
We're on the Disney Magic now, but just checked out of OKW yesterday (Sat). We had a 4 night stay in a 1 bedroom (couldn't get a 2 bedroom !). We were in bldg 62 off of Miller's Road. Great room---a little close to the road but the bushes/trees hid alot of the view of the road/busses etc. The view from our patio (we were in 6216) was of the water mostly. We actually had a wonderful view of Illuminations from our patio. We could even hear the music a little. I'd stay in this room again in a heartbeat. The pool construction is coming along. Didn't see too much but scaffolding and wire construction for the the sandcastle slide. I snapped 3 pics and I'll try and post them when we get back. WDW was more crowded than we've ever seen it in November ! Hot most of the week. It was 86 on Wed 11/3. Friday/Sat it cooled down to 77-80. Very nice---no rain. >>>>>>

I posted to the "forum" but it was moved to the "community" board ? Can anyone please explain the difference and how I know which to post to. I was talking about my OKW room location and the pool construction and I thought this was appropriate for the "forum" boards but the moderators didn't seem to think so ? I'm just a little confused about this and what I did wrong to get my post moved. Thanks
Oh.....btw, had a fantastic time at OKW and plan to post a couple pics I snapped of the pool construction as soon as I figure out my new dig camera uploading procedure.

There's a thread on here somewhere that was posted when they started up the new community board a week or so ago - it basically said that for trip reports, happy dances/countdowns and such use the community board and for questions about the resort - ammenitties, room sizes, whatever etc. use the regular DVC board.

HTH's -- if I see the thread I'll post back with the link to it;)

Thanks Scoootch. This all took place while I was away. I find it more confusing this way---maybe it's just me. I was specifically talking about my OKW room location (view etc) and the OKW pool construction so I felt my post shouldn't have been moved ? Maybe this fell under the guidelines of TR's. I was posting with the intent of informational/update. I felt this was "forum" information but what do I know ? ;) I'll try and get this all straight in my head for my next post though.

BUT, I have seen posted moved that I thought should not have been and others not moved that should have been. I still do not understand the reason for splitting the post in the first place..smjj

I also think that the split between boards is confusing and that posts that seem appropriate for one board get moved to the other! IMHO, having two boards seems to lessen the sense of community...but that's just my feeling!!

Count me in for not warming up to the split either. Maybe I just need some time to get used to it, but I find my posts being moved all over the place. I think I'll be finding it more difficult to keep up with the threads being that they're spread out over two boards too. Just my 2 cents for what it's worth :wave2:

As a Special Education English teacher, I pretty much know how to read and analyze anything, that being said, what's the purpose with adding the new DVC board? I have read all posts and compared and analyzed posts over there and over here, and guess what? I find blaring inconsistencies and confusion! Just when I thought I had it figured out, I read two posts (one on each board) that were practically identical, yet they remained on each board!

I see some have been moved, yet others have not. I am assuming that the transition to the new board will take time for us as posters, but it seems as if the mods are confused as well. That being said, I read the description of the new board (listed at top) in the Welcome message, as well as someone's reply to another poster over here who asked the same question as I, but I am still confused.

Anyone (preferably a Mod) have an answer, Tiger

Ahhh....THAT is the million-dollar question!!! I guess just post where you think best, and don't be offended if it gets moved (that's my philosophy anyway). I have seen a couple of posts that people put on BOTH boards...I guess just to cover all bases!!

I see the community boards as a place where anyone can ask any question.

On this board the question had better be directly related to DVC period. and a question directly dealing with the rules, resorts, or perks (like the new annual pass).

on the other board - DVC members can do their trip reports, you can celebrate with them on their new purchase or trips, non-DVC can ask questions about PI - that were before moved.

I really think it is a good thing.

Thanks for linking my question to this thread, but I still see confusion when comparing some threads on each board. I myself will post according to what Doc posted as the OP, and that way I can be assured that my posts are more than likely in the right spot.

I must say that there still must be confusion in that spiceycat's reply is contradictory to the info that has been presented. In particular,

On this board the question had better be directly related to DVC period. and a question directly dealing with rules, resorts, or perks (like new annual pass) on the other board.

I don't want to give an English lesson here (not picking on spiceycat, but I want to show that there is still confusion), but rules or perks' questions are directly related to DVC.

Also, if we compare the posts that are on the Community Board with Doc's original Welcome Message as the OP of this thread,

We are pleased to announce DVC Community...Please enjoy for trip reports, announcing add-ons, happy dances... Questions & discussion about the DVC program are still appropriate for DVC forum, we also still have problems as there are some posts that are on both boards - how can that be!

Not trying to make a big deal, so I guess I'll just do my best to post according to Doc's original message, in regards to any messages that may fit the guidelines of both boards (not referencing specific topics such as Welcomes, or countdowns, as those are obvious).

Thanks, Tiger

How does an announcement from someone that they have just purchased additional points so everyone can congratulate them help someone plan their trip.

I never could (still can't) figure that one out.

Okay, so I didn’t’”get” the DVC Community Board when it first began. . .I thought it was just me and I’d adjust. Then there were a bunch of questions from frequent posters wondering what fit where and why, and so I figured it would all work itself out. . .

Then, I ask a question which I think is a general DVC Board question and it gets moved to the DVC Community Forum. I’m okay with that, but I don’t get WHY?

This is the Community Board Description
<<”Please enjoy this new forum for DVC trip reports, announcing add-ons, happy-dances, congratulating new members, roll calls, where-are-you-from posts, etc. “>>

I want advice/experience from DVCers, not just a hurrah, you’re another DVCer. . .Help.

Then I go back to look for the other “what board does what” queries and I can’t find them. . .it’s spooky!
:earseek:

I am missing something about the DVC boards. What is the purpose of the Community board versus the DVC Discussion board. I can't really figure it out. There seem to be posts about the same things on each board (i.e., annual passes, trip reports)?
