New DVC Between FW & WL Announced

My uninformed opinion, Lehuaann, is that they put the parking lot there because you don't have many other good places to put it (for 900 rooms plus DVC villas requires a lot of blacktop).

I think it was put there to keep everything on the north side of the WL-FW bus road. If you put it more to the left/west of the new development and still north of the bus road, the lake comes in a lot closer and you don't have as much space. The land on the south side of the bus road is lower by a couple feet which I've noticed when tramping through the woods following the old Fort Wilderness Railroad grade bed. It had to be built up 3-4 feet in the woods behind loop 700 (the newer leg that was built to serve River Country). I don't know if that low land is technically wetlands which triggers more environmental stuff. But if you go very far into the woods there at the Settlement Bus Depot, you will note quickly the land drops down a couple feet. That's nothing a Disney-sized construction engineer couldn't fix but it might be a consideration.

And don't you think they would still have a guard shack to get into the new resort parking lot? It would be run much like the Contemporary Resort/Bay Lake or Wilderness Lodge/DVC's parking lots. We drive up to the door of our cabin or campsite - those poor folks can't do that (kinda feel sorry for them already).

I would think a resort that size would have a counter service and table service restaurant of average (not Signature) quality so poor Trails End doesn't get swamped. Counter and Table (off a menu) augments the FW offerings at Pioneer Hall and offers more dining variety which I think would be acceptable to campers as well.

Melissa (ilovedisneymm), you're trolling me about building on the Preferred loops. That's where I camp and now you're just messing with my head.

For reference, here was the diagram tiggerdad had that I referred to in the thread above.

Let's keep all the current conversation in this thread and not bump old threads. For my sanity if for no other reason. The year 2022 is a LONG way off....

PS - in the map of tiggerdad's above, I've higlighted some landmarks in color: yellow is Pioneer Hall (Hoop Dee Doo Review, Trails End, Crockett's Tavern), orange is the Settlement Trading Post, and green is the replacement Mickey's Backyard BBQ Pavilion as shown in this rendering. (The Horse Barn/Tri-Circle-D Ranch would be rebuilt up by the horse ride corrals near the Outpost Bus Depot and main parking lot).

PPS - does anyone else notice: no golf cart parking at all down by the Fort boat dock?

Sorry for bumping up your thread. It was only started in March, so I didn’t think it was all that old. We could’ve just picked up where y’all good folks left off :teeth:

My eyes aren’t so good with the attachment...are the blue areas both parking lots? And the red area can’t be built on unless they raise it up?

I would hope the resort has a dedicated guard shack. I don’t believe it’s an extension of FW...is it? It seems DVC should at least pay for that.

No golf cart parking near the boat dock either? I wonder if they are intentionally keeping carts away due to heavier foot traffic. It seems like they’ve taken cart paths/parking slowly away over the years. One of the paths I miss most is going over the bridge near Bike Barn, pool, etc.

Agree with @PaHunter, FW amenities may be a part of the sales pitch to DVC and campers will have to conform like second rate guests. I remember when FW’s main pool was refurbed, we weren’t allowed to use WL’s pools. But when WL’s main pool was down -

Guests will still be able to use the quiet pool at Wilderness Lodge which will remain open. During the refurbishment, guests will be allowed to use the pools at both Disney’s Contemporary Resort and Disney’s Fort Wilderness & Campground. Transportation (boat and bus) will be provided for guests of Wilderness Lodge if they choose to use those options.

During the building of CC, they were also encouraged to use FW amenities.

Some of the survey names on that other thread...colors, reflections :crazy2: I would’ve liked to see something resembling River Country with Inn...Ranch...Homestead. Or Lodges, since it appears to be more than one building.

So at this point we really don't have any proposed plans for current DVC correct?

If so, those older plans might not be accurate at all any longer. Of course, they could be the exact same.

@bama_ed Not at all, my friend.

When I first looked at the drawing (with my phone) I could not tell that Mickey BBQ was in the plans to be moved on the other side of the Trading Post. If this is true and accurate, then there is hope....for now.

Just looking at those plans for the new hotel looks like a disease that will soon spread further into FW. I loathe everything about that new DVC.

Fort Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge belong side by side. They are (were) a good pair.

This makes us later for pick up and drop off to MK (maybe) and another 15 min later for the water parade too.

I hope this is not an accurate up to date plan.

Can someone clarify a few things...

(1) Is this plan accurate?

(2) Has construction already started? Specifically up by Pioneer Hall? I'm curious to know what we should except for our January trip.

They just need to stop all this madness right now! They need to go back and restore River Country exactly as it was in the 90s. Then go over and restore that little island where one would row over to in a canoe and have a campfire. Then restore that train!

Exactly. I doubt these old plans are still current.

The blue areas are both parking lots with the smaller one on the left labelled for valet parking and as for the red area the underlying layers did have contours and elevations (feet above sea level I guess) but I can't make it out if it's a low spot or a high spot. They appear to have a serious "catch basin" under the big parking lot to catch all the rain water run-off (which is a Florida water management requirement).

MM, who knows what the plans are yet? :confused3

I would have thought that in terms of construction, they would build the new Tri Circle D up front to have a place to move the horses to first. Then they would come in behind Pioneer Hall and start knocking stuff down. There's no telling when the BBQ might be rebuilt if it is still planned to be. Disney may not replace it immediately but if they did they might aim to have it ready in 2022 when the big new resort opens. It's not as mission-critical as having a place for the horses is.

PS - would give a dollar to watch PaHunter pull up in his rig and ask the valet to park it :rotfl2:

I'll add a dollar to that as well.

For now we'll have to sit and wait for the plans to show up to see how much has changed. I agree, I don't think the BBQ is gonna be a priority. I also agree that you'll see the horses get a new place to stay before you'll start seeing any construction or demolition primarily as the noise would not be good for the animals.

I figure it'll get its own water transport for MK and not share with FW. As it is, most mornings and evening the boat is already full with FW guests so there is no way you're gonna be able to share.

As far as the Parade goes, those areas (considering how different new plans are) are REALLY close together and you could likely even do one parade and cover both resorts at same time potentially. Hard to say without knowing what the construction plans are. If the plans change drastically, Tri Circle D might not be moved at all and it might just be the area between it and the lake (BBQ and old River Country) that are being used for the new resort and parking lot might be in a completely different location. Hard to say

Ed my guess is there are some changes to the plans. Wondering if they are rolling these out as a test balloon to see what sort of reaction they get.
Put me in for a buck if PaHunter does it But I have a 20 if we can get Randy and Michael to pull up in Randy's rig in full regalia, complete with REDMAN pack

I wish I had footage of the guards face when we pulled in to All Star Sports last year with the trailer in tow. That was after the hurricane, and the guard was like umm, what do we have here, then it was just the CC dually and the 43 foot trailer.

I'm in !!!

Whenever they break ground, it's likely going to affect the bus route between WL and FW...but if it doesn't then I'll take as many rides as I can to see what's going on next fall

I found some of my old files <I got stuff all over this hard drive from 2-3 hard drives ago>.

This was the proposed stable work up at the front of the Fort where the horse rides are given. Basically, if you stand at the Outpost bus stop, new construction was going to go BEHIND the ride barns and stables (roads, parking) with new actual stables over to the far right past the old FW Kennel along the road that runs past the Overflow Lot gate (Fort Wilderness Terrace-never knew its name). These were the South Florida Water Management permit filings so they focus on water drains, run-off, retention and catch basins/ponds, etc. But they show the new stables, new blacksmith shop, new roads/pavement, etc.

Here is the overall control drawing:

Over inside the red lines on the right in the middle is the new Tri Circle D Ranch ("stables"). Here is a close-up:

A new blacksmith shop would be built up by the old FW Kennel (which I have circled the word "Kenel" in red to indicate where it is for reference):

Note a new road with parking for employees, etc. would run behind the current ride stables. And on the far right bottom corner, this plan might eliminate our grass Overflow Parking from the Overflow lot.

This is what I would expect to have seen implemented before they knock down the current horse barn. Again, so much time has passed that there could be new plans - who knows.

Bama ED

PS - it doesn't show the bus stop and golf cart parking because those didn't change the water management plan (what was paved and what wasn't). But this is up in the Outpost area near the bus stop, parking lot, and check-in building.
