Starting November 15, 2011 Transportation companies cannot drop guests off at the Disney Cruise Line Port Canaveral terminal before 11:00 AM. This means anyone wanting to be picked up at the airport or a Disney resort before 10 AM will have to wait until 10 AM.

Thanks for the info.
I wonder if others are going to do like we are and no longer stay at the port the night before.
If I can't be dropped off earlier than 11, I mind as well spend that night at WDW and take a car service. Bottom line, is this has made one of the biggest advantages of staying at the port go away for us.

Saw a blog on the Dis here that Limos will not be able to drop off guests until 11 am.

What's up with that?

Does that mean we won't be able to be picked up early when we get off the ship too?

The port now opens to newly departing cruisers at 11 am.

People who have arranged pick up after their cruise will still be able to be picked up when they get off the ship.

They changed the opening time because of too many people departing/arriving at the same time. This gives the port a little buffer time to clear all departing guests before the new cruisers arrive.

The port opens to EMBARKING cruisers at 11. Departing cruisers may leave any time after 7:30 am assuming normal Customs clearance.

Limos and taxis will not be allowed to drop off guests until 11, consistent with the terminal opening time. They can pick up guests whenever the guests are ready to be picked up.

Darn - so I can't stay on the ship until 11:00 am?? :lmao:

This certainly makes staying at WDW the night before more attractive. I was thinking about doing MVMCP the night before our cruise next Nov. Now we would be able to sleep in a bit more the next morning.

i think that this is not a good idea...it's gonna make everyone arrive at 11a causing a huge mess at the drop-off...

It seems to me that this is likely the first step to move towards the assigned arrival times. Once the 11am arrival is in place, I wonder how long until they begin strictly enforcing the arrival times assigned with online check in?

When looking at the Port Canaveral website it looks like this change is in part to a new system the port will be utilizing for all commercial passenger vehicles that enter the port area. The transportation companies will now be charged a fee to enter the port area (went into effect 11/1/11) and will have a designated road to enter the area before going to the terminals. Wonder how this change will effect rates for transportation companies, car rental agencies, hotels and off-site parking lots?

They have easing into the assigned port arrival times since August.....they now seem to be ready to strictly enforce them.

We have a 11am port arrival time scheduled in December.
My father-in-law will drop us off. I have been talking to my husband to aim for arriving there at 10:45am because if there is traffic, then we will be closer to 11am not 12noon. If we get there at 10:45, then we will just go sit somewhere for 15 mins before returning.
Does this sound ok?
Thanks

Don't most transport places like to their co-ordinate drop offs with pick ups? It sounds like like it might be more to do difficult now. It might also effect the cost since if they are going a drop off and a pick up, the cost of gas to either the port or the airport is being absorbed by passengers.

But if they have to make an extra trip for a pick up from port- and make a separate trip for a drop off to the port- after 11, it's going to burn more gas.

Also, it doesn't seem like those who drive to port will be effected.

I agree. Until the arrival time is strictly enforced and that enforcement is understood, this is just moving the crowd away from the disney terminal and out into the queue of waiting cars.

Some of us don't really care to arrive as soon as the port opens. We chose a later arrival time for our oct. cruise and it was a great decision:thumbsup2 We had a quicker check in and less waiting to board the ship than we did for our first cruise when we arrived just after the port opened.

So to saying everyone will arrive at 11am. Nope it really won't

In all honesty, this is me, but this DCL closing the barn door after the horses got out.

This all could have been avoided if DCL had done 2 simple things:
1. Make the arrival area for other then DCL transportation 2 separate areas, instead of 1. You have the embarking guests at the existing drop off now, then the vehicle/limo/bus moves up to the twin to the existing area, (past the walkway)to pick up debarking guests. That will alleviate most of the foot traffic at the terminal out side the terminal, and improve traffic flow.

2. All DCL had to do, was to make the actual passenger portion of the terminal bigger, to handle the additional guest flow. As it stands now, on average, the terminal has to accomodate in some way shape or form, 1000 guests per hour. Thats guests just walking thru the terminal. Not checking in. (based on a full ship, with some having checked in at a resort or airport.) They already made the baggage handling area bigger to accomodate the extra bags, so why not the passenger portion?

They try to, but there is also a holding area near by that a vehicle can stage at thats out of the way, while waiting for their pick up time. Or most likely they will reverse the order. Instead of say, picking up at the airport then going to the port, then back to the airport, they go to the port, then the airport then back.

I do see it as costing more, since the drivers may have to be scheduled in 45 minutes to an hour more to start.
