New Doorway to Dreams mailing(Woodfield)

I had intentions of attending today but was unable to make it at the last minute. I understand Jim Lewis is in town and I would love to have heard anything he may have said at the opening/ribbon cutting.

Hopefully someone will be able to update us later on today. Thanks!

We saw him at our hotel, but he was talking with other associates so we never made any contact. Cool to see him though.

I said Hi to Jim today! The incentives to the general public were the same as in FL. I hope I am wrong, but if I had to predict, this place isnt going to last....

Took the kids today. They had a little show in the middle of the mall at 11:00 that started out pretty lame (Miss Dee VeeCee and some bumbling guy), and then the characters came out and danced. The kids thought it was DCL-like, and enjoyed the characters. Stood in line over an hour to wait for pictures (moderately crowded, but not a zoo), and finally gave up because the kids were hanging out with the Radio Disney people. They gave everybody ears and pins, and Radio Disney was giving out some things, primarily to younger kids - my kids were disappointed because they did not get anything. When we left, we walked by the store, and there was actually a line to get in.

Well I was at the 1 pm presentation on Wednesday (the first one) and I can say firsthand there was a line already for appointments for those wishing to add on there. The reps were all busy writing add on contracts and it appears many more were signing up for other times to do so. Just wish I was one of them, sigh....

We were at the member preview at 12:00 on Friday. We were a fwe minutes late (my watch was off), and ended up getting a "late group" number. After the very short presentation, we waited for quite a while for our group to be called. We stood in line for the character photo since there was nothing else to do. We did win a prize from DeeVeeCee since there was no one else waiting for their group to be called. Many groups toured the store and had come back by the time we got our tour.

The units were great. Even pin traded a little with CM's.

The Saturday grand opening was sort of weird. I agree with skibum that it started out really lame. It ened up being a small sales pitch and then that was it. Character came out for a song, and then they stayed around for photos. (No kids, so we didn't wait in line.) They were giving out mouse ears to everyone! It was kind of cool to see.

I hope the store lasts... the more members = more new resorts, the way I see it anyway. If any of my pics turned out, I'll post them.

We just came back from the mall. Our main purpose for going there was to complete the paperwork necessary to go ahead with the add-on we talked about at the preview last Wednesday night.

There were people buzzing all outside of the store (3 pm on a cloudy/dreary Chicago afternoon). We walked inside and the CM said, you want to add on today? We're like, yep, we want to add on today. The CM said, well, if you take the tour, you have 7 days to do that. I said, nope, we already took the tour on Wednesday, now we need to complete the paperwork. The CM says, you want to talk to a guide? I said, yes, exactly, to which the CM said, ummmm, let me check because I think you'll need to come back.

The manager came out and said if we only wanted to do the add-on, if we gave them the deposit money, they would mail us the paperwork. I said I didn't realize that we needed to call to make an appointment to complete the add on. The manager CM said that they have been really jumping with people buying/adding on, and they just didn't have the manpower to sit with us today. She invited us to return another day this week or just do everything through the mail. We wrote her a deposit check and she said she'd process it and we should have the paperwork by mid-week.

Here's where the question came in. I talked to our guide in FL on Friday and questioned where/when/how the developer points could be used. She said as long as we used them within 12 months, we were good. And, that they could be used at any resort, regardless of where the add-on was being done, AND at the 11 month window.

When I repeated this to the manager, she said that her understanding was that they were to be used within 12 months, but that they could only be used to book at the 7 month window.

Being we were/planning on adding on 168 points, that would put us at having almost 250 points to use within 12 months. We had talked about doing the add-on and then using them to try for a GV, at one of our home resorts, at the 11 month window which is this coming week. I'm concerned now that trying to book at GV at the 7 month window isn't going to happen and we'll have all of the developer points that we won't be able to use.

I'll be calling to confirm this with MS tomorrow as that's what the manager at the Doorway to Dreams suggested. I'd call our guide but I know that she's out of town on vacation starting this week.

I just feel like the thoughts/plans/decisions we thought we had made over the weekend are now all up in the air. :sad2:

Truthfully, I am not real clear on this either. I have 400 developer points that I need to figure out.

1st person told me, 12 months to use them, use them anywhere, 7 month booking window

2nd person from MS, 12 months to use them, use them 11 months out if your booking at your home resort, 7 months any where else. She put me on hold 4 times...

I am still not confident as to what the answer is :confused3

We bought 110 add-on and were told that they were good for 12 months AND we could book using them at the 11 mo. mark for what its worth.

Wonderful! :headache:

I will see if I can get to the bottom of it all tomorrow with my call to MS. Our problem comes in with our 11 month window starts on Tuesday, which is when I hoped to start using those developer points to begin booking.

I guess I'll find out on Tuesday at the latest when I try to use some of those points.

Bought today and was told developer points have no home resort. Points are good for 1 year from the date of sale and are treated as non-home resort points which means I can only book 7 months out from my check-out day.

That's what my guide said...it was member services who said the 11 month window.

Although we did not add-on, this is exactly what we were told by the guide with whom we met on Thursday.

HTH

We went Sat. but didn't do the sales presentation since we knew we couldn't add-on right now. My 4-year nephew went with DH and myself and was so excited to see all the characters. The line was long but it wasn't too crazy. There was a family that was trying get back to the front because they had missed Mickey and Minne but the cast member to them No they couldn't do that. Which was very fair, IMHO.

We also got to see the RainForest frog character, so it was a great day trip!

I have to agree about the strangeness of Sat., it started out kinda weird for us because we weren't sure where to go or what to do. We walked downstairs to where they were doing the presentations but there was no one at the table to greet or direct you. The table had the round pins and hats so we each grab one and just kinda walk around where I guess people were waiting for the sales presentation. I finally asked a CM for the characters and room models. I told her we were already members and not interested in the sales tour. She told us to go upstairs by Nordstroms and than asked another CM if they had anything for members and she gave me a goodie bag :thumbsup2 and said one per family. So it was worth going down there for the goodie bag but just a little unorganized. Maybe they were just getting crazy with alot of people.
We did enjoy seeing the characters though.

This is exactly what I was told this morning from MS.

It seems our guide was a little confused with the information she gave us on Friday.

Woodfield is a very pricey mall. The sales need to justify its continued staffing and overhead. I was there Sunday afternoon again and it was pretty dead. As far as addons, unless the deal was really spectacular, I would rather work through my Florida guide so he gets the commission. Not sure if anyone else feels that way if all things were equal.

The question is can they capture the casual mall shopper?

I have my doubts.

Our feelings exactly!! That is another reason why we did not add-on.

I was lucky...my guide was right there...so I added on through him. It seems many of the top guides were there. I recognized quite a few names that I have read on the DVC Dis boards.
