I love the pictures! I am really trying to keep up, but I am failing miserably!
Hope everyone has a great trip who is going soon. SO glad to hear about Kapp's adventures, too! Will someone please take me back to Disney where my brain didn't seem to be spinning quite so much!

Off to hockey, then going to try to hit the grocery store for mushrooms (to make mushrooms and rice(think 3/4 mushrooms 1/4 rice...various spices and enough butter to feed a small country).. always on my "Polish" Thanksgiving table..... its going to visit the Norwegian family Thanksgiving!)

Happy Thanksgiving to all if I don't make an appearance tomorrow!
Debbie

LOL as I read your post, Debbie. I'm headed out to buy mushrooms for stuffed mushrooms for Thanksgiving at my DCousin's. To bring a little of my Italian heritage to the table, I am going to make stuffed artichokes, too. :D Then, on Friday morning we're off to Mt. Washington Valley, NH.

DF~ Love the pics - thanks for taking the time to post them.

On topic: ummmmm *thinking* ........ S/D RULES!!!!

Teacher discounts and Jr Suites....can you get a teacher discount for a Jr suite???? If I book through DU I can get the discount because I fall into the admistrative staff catagory....but I'm unsure if Jr Suites can get a discount???

I think you need to be bringing those stuffed artichokes to NJ! ::yes:: :wave2:

Zurgswife ~ I don't know about the teachers discount on the Jr. suite, but I believe that you can get one from what I have read here in the past. I am hoping others can help you. I get upgraded with my Platinum, by booking a regular room rate.

Dreamflight or anyone else ~ Can you give me some insight on the Westins in New York. I am thinking about taking DD 14 for her 8th grade graduation trip in May. I have looked into "The Regis" and "The Regis- Essex house". I understand the essex house is the only one with a club lounge. The Regis looks so beautiful, but the Essex overlooks central park. I have never been to NYC so this would be a first for me and DH also. It would be just the 3 of us for a 3 day weekend in May. I am hoping to get some pointers from those of you who have traveled here before. I am totally clueless.... :) I loved the pics of Disneyland, thanks for sharing ::MickeyMo

Have a good night everyone and let the baking begin

Zwife.......YES, you can get a jr. suite with a teacher discount. I can't remember the price, which would have changed by now anyway, but I know it is discounted. We did it at the Swan. Then, when I got platinum, I got it at the same price as a standard room with teacher's discount. Was a great deal, and we were on club level. :)
Have been spending many hours at school for parent teacher conferences this week, but tomorrow is 1/2 day! :bounce:
DF......love your pics. Your camera must attached to your eye at this point! LOL :earseek:

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!!!

On topic: Has anyone bought any SPG points? I see that the website has a deal. Also, they give a 10% discount if you use your Starwood Amex.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

MomPoppins,

I can't help you with the NY Westins, but I can highly recommend the New York Hilton at 1335 Avenue of the Americas. It is an easy walk to 5th Ave. shopping, Broadway and Central Park. When we go to NYC, we walk a lot. But, it is super easy to get a taxi from this location if the need arises.

I can say that staying across from Central Park does have its benefits as well. (we have stayed at a small boutique Hotel there a few times but switched because the service was going downhill). Some must do's: a Broadway Show (we usually have tix for one and then see another show 50% off via the TKTS booth) brunch at Tavern on the Green, a visit to the Metro. Museum of Art, Times Square Toys R Us and FAO Schwarz. We also really liked the NBC tour and the Empire State Building observation deck. As hokey as it sounds, Madamme Toussaud's Wax Museum was a lot of fun too! It's probably a good idea to make restaurant reservations as soon as you know when you'll be there.

This is the first year in many that I'm not going during the Christmas Season. (my mom and sil are going.......so I could still tag along) We're hoping to go again next summer so that we can visit Ellis Island.

I'll look forward to your Westin Review when you get back. Now that I am an SPG addict, I will probably try a new hotel the next time we are there.

NYC...THE "W" in TIME SQUARE would probably appeal more to your DD (as it is close to the MTV studio), but I stayed at the ESSEX during the summer of 2002. IT is PERFECT, in every aspect. They treated me like...PLATINUM (SPG), and the place is truly a historical landmark. Yet, the REGIS is also world-renowned. This is a tough call. The "W" is NEW, and much more contemporary with regards to decor. There is a SHULA'S steakhouse in this building, as well as other fine shops. Of course...I moved from the ESSEX to the "PLAZA", where I stayed for the remainder of my City Sojourn. The PLAZA....has my heart. I only WISH it were an SPG property (TRUMP instead). Once, long ago...it was a sister of the ST. FRANCIS on Union Square. ::yes::
Call the PLAZA just for fun, and check all the rates. It's a GRAND place (Home alone...Eloise...The Way We Were...etc.). You are a sweetie for planning such a trip. What a memorable time you'll share. :goodvibes

ZWIFE~YES...of course!
The Jr. Suite may be "HAD" at the Teacher's rate of about $292.00 per eve. It may have gone up a few $$$ due to the renovations. But, it should be very close to this amount. *Thanks for the (Cute note paper) $$$ for the shipping! You did not have to, but it's greatly appreciated.^_^

Mouseteacher I SECOND the motion by LOU...for the stuffed artichokes! I'll take "3" over here (LOL)! Sounds delicious.

Ozzie~You were ALL on my mind as I "snapped" away. DD & DH were laughing and joking with me about the CAMERA! It was all in good fun. So glad you enjoyed the pics. I contemplated posting the pics with ME in the midst...but then, EVERYONE had better post a picture of themselves!!! :hyper:

A DEAR TEACHER and TWO STUDENTS~ are stopping by this afternoon @ 1:00 pm, to pick up a kitten (each!). This will leave me with three of these little monsters. They are certainly a group of characters. I am so pleased we spared them from a terrible fate. It will be a HAPPY THANKSGIVING...with loads of "thankful" praise going around the table!

"HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL MY SISTERS AND BROTHERS OF THE SIGMA DELTA SORORITY!" *Don't forget to RISE and SHINE for the annual MACY'S DAY PARADE~!

any Starwood properties in the Quarter? Trying to start planning a surprise trip for my wife for our 15th anniversary this summer and she LOVES New Orleans.

Let the fun begin...

School let out at 11:15 with shouts of "Happy Thanksgiving" and many big smiles including the school staff! ;)

Kapp~ I believe there is a Sheraton in the French Quarter. Check out the spg website for what properties are located in the Quarter. I have visited New Orleans twice and love the city!

DF~ okay, will be there to deliver the artichokes - I'll use PD to fly coast-to coast! :wizard:

:genie: wishing I were headed to WDW and a Swan or Dolphin holiday stay. Dreaming of heavenly beds, Jr. Suites and balconies!

I'm from New Orleans. It is a great place with lots of culture. Just watch the sweltering summer heat. . .it's VERY hot and VERY humid. May is a pleasant time to visit. . .not too hot yet. I don't know if you're interested at all in bed & breakfasts, but right over the ferry on the West Bank, is Historic Old Algiers. It is a beautiful little town where I grew up. It's really a hidden jewel of New Orleans. It's within walking distance of the ferry, and from there it is a pleasant 15 min. walk to the French Quarter. There are about 4 that I would recommend; very romantic, historic homes.
Just a little FYI. . .

:wave2:

NY info - no help with hotels as we live about 1.5 hours north of the city, but a TON of things to do. The Planetarium, The Museum of Natural History, Liberty Sceince Center (it's in NJ but there is a ferry that will take you from NY to NJ), Ellis Island, Circle Line, South Street Sea Port, Broadway show, etc.

I realize I am about six hours early.... but nothing is too good for my sorority sisters and honorary brothers! Have a lovely time with your loved ones!

LYMI,
Debbie
