Lomillerin, I actually talked to the Swan yesterday and they told me renovations SHOULD be done by the fall, but please don't make your decision based on my information, maybe talk to someone in authority there:D

I certainly hope so too kathmzh. This restaurant will be on the top of our list when we visit in late October/early November. After skipping last year because of my wife's pregnancy, we'll be staying three weeks this time around. I can't wait. Perhaps I'll see you there. :D

FYI, because of The Food and Wine Festival, which begins in late October and runs into late November, there's an excellent chance that Todd will be present, not only to oversee the opening of the new restaurant, but to participate in the festivities as well. His crab cakes are to die for.

Sorry this is off topic but many of you know my darling 8 year old daughter was diagnosed with hearing loss in July last year. I was saddened at the time to think she was going to need to wear a hearing aid for the rest of her life... but adjusted and she loves it and has been doing great. Yesterday we went to Childrens Medical Center in Dallas to get the results of her MRI... she has progressive hearing loss... They do not know at this point how long it will take to reach the point where the aids will no longer work for her, its on both sides. Its a birth defect in her ear tubes.... This has been a tough day for all of us...please pray for her.... these are very difficult days for her and us as well... I hope we will get back to WDW before she looses all of her hearing..... At this point I don't believe she can even fly the pressure could make the loss go even quicker as well as any bump to her head.... Its hard for an 8 year old to live in a "protected" world.. but we are going to have to figure out something to protect her hearing for as long as we can..... Thanks to my Disney friends for listening on such a tough day for our family....

Mom Poppins,
I will definatly be praying for your precious DD. She will adjust, learn sign language and go on to great things. Just wait and see! I know this must be very difficult for you but it will get better. I have seen children adjust so well to hearing loss. You have discribed how well she is now and that is direct reflection on you and your family. Please know that we are all thinking of you and sending positive energy your way. Take care!

So sorry to read about Rachel's prognosis. I have been praying (since the initial news) she would progressively get "better", and the hearing aid would work for the rest of her life. Of all the senses, H. Keller always said she would rather have "sight" than any of the others. Ditto. Thank God for giving your precious Rachel the ability to "enjoy" sound as a young child. she will ALWAYS have these imprints in her mind to draw upon years from now.

Think of the small blessings, as she "knows" the sweet sound of your voices. After the volume is lowered, and then finally non-existent...she will forever hear the echo of your soothing vocal reassurance, calling her name and telling her you love her. These are "priceless blessings", even in the midst of such disheartening news. Thank the Lord you have time on your side, and her hearing isn't lost overnight. This enables you take the time to say the things you all treasure. To remind her of your love, caring and appreciation. To build a "library" of sound, for her to store safely in the corners of her memory.

She will always be able to see your smile, and know your moods...understand laughter and dancing, etc. She will always be able to enjoy Television (closed caption) and read. Two things which will constantly keep her connected and involved with the hearing world around her.

You are a very strong family, and have endured the first round of afflictions concerning Rachel. I remain confident you will all come together, and have the strength to maintain a solid, protective and nurturing environment to see her through this trial of life. Over the years, I have seen myself become overwhelmed with just the "idea" of what is to occur in certain situations. When I have been faced with a life crisis or obstacles, I have seemingly made them worse in the confines of my mind. After they have passed, I have learned they were "never as bad" as I envisioned.

I am getting much better at dealing with these events. I now relent, and remind myself--"if I am not part of the solution, I am part of the problem." I always work towards the positive, as there is one in every situation. Even if difficult to discern (in the face of all the disappointment, etc), there is always a silver lining to every cloud. I shift my focus from the despair of the situation, to the endless possibility.

You are blessed to have Rachel, and she is blessed to have all of you. She seems to be a very well-adjusted and happy little girl. Continue your lifestyle, and wrap her in the warmth of FAMILY and LOVE. She will continue to thrive, and astound you with her achievements. Maintain a positive outlook...and remember, one person's "handicap" is another person's "gift". She is a "special" angel from God. You are fortunate to have her in your world. Time to hop off the soap box....TTFN. ;)

My prayers are with you and your family.

I have had children in my school with profound hearing loss and they were in regular classroom settings and have done very well. They used a device that is attached to their ears and the teacher wears the same device with a microphone (not exactly sure what it is called). The student uses this as well as the ability to read lips. The student can also communicate by speaking since they are able to speak and/or use sign at the same time. They were happy, well-adjusted and we even implemented strategies so that they could play on our basketball team in grades 5 - 8. Nothing was an obstacle for them or for us!

Currently, I have a mom and dad (who have two children in the school) who are deaf. We communicate quite effectively with them in person and on the telephone. At large parent meetings, we have someone come in and sign for them.

Hope this helps a little bit.

Mom Poppins......I will be praying also. And I'm sure that you will all continue to live blessed and fullfilling lives. May God Bless and comfort you!!

MomPoppins, your family will be in my prayers. But as DF99 said (so eloquently), it sounds as if your family is one that can handle such an obstacle.
God Bless.

Mouseteacher, the device is called an auditory trainer. Mom Poppins, as i mentioned to you months back, our oldest daughter also wears two hearing aids. She has between severe and total loss for high pitched sounds and has had this since birth they believe. At 24 she has experienced remarkable accomplishments in her life, always knowing there are more obstacles for her to overcome but also knowing that she is capable of doing them.
Your daughter has the love and security necessary to compensate for things in her life that she might find to be obstacles, and you will see her soar!!!
You will all remain in our prayers - please let us know how everything progresses. Caroline

MOM POPPINS...you are in my thoughts and prayers daily. Hope all is going well. Please, stop by when you have a chance and post a few lines. :)

Robin,
Just want you to know we are all thinking about you. I know that all will work out for all of you. New devices come out all the time. We have a hearing impaired class at my school and they all do sooo well. Rachel will amaze you when you see what she will be able to do. Hang in there. You have my prayers.

Carol

I wanted to thank all of you for your prayers and good wishes for our sweet Rachel. She took the news hard on Tuesday night. I told all of you before she even knew. The Doctor told me I needed to be honest with her..... She cried herself to sleep in my arms Tuesday night but woke up with a smile on her face Wednesday morning! She will go back to school on Monday, she is just not ready to face school yet. We go to Children's Hospital Dallas for a second opinion on Thursday next week. I am trying to get a WDW trip together for early February 2004. We will have to drive ( she can no longer fly) so I am going to take the week before Spring Break and Our Spring Break week which is early, always the first week in March. I am just hoping the school will be understanding about an extra week...we will see... the summer is so hot for our little ones, especially with our new bundle! :D I thank all of you again for listening... God Bless, Robin

By the way our Precious Rachel is the little one in the pink overalls below :D

I certainly would think that the school would understand and encourage you to go. I know my school community would!

Keep hugging her and loving her the way you do and she will be strong wrapped in the love of her beautiful family.

My heart goes out to you...("She cried herself to sleep in my arms Tuesday night"), as I know how hard this must have been. If anything...children are miraculously resiliant! She will bounce right back to her happy, bubbly self! I will keep her picture (precious in pink!) in my mind, and keep all of you in my prayers. Keep me apprised of your plans, Feb. sounds wonderful (especially w/bundle on the way later!). ;) Just keep smiling, and loving Rachel (as Caroline stated). Wrap her in the family coccoon...and let her feel the blessings of life. What seems to terrible at this moment, will surely diminish with time. I always recite this little prayer...as it helps to ease the pain of any event too overwhelming to comprehend. "This too shall pass."
TTFN....DF99/Lisa;)

I'm sending you a hug and my prayers too. Best wishes.

jmkst58 - best wishes on your upcoming trip!

And for the pool question - I don't feel the pool area shows any wear? DF99 wouldn't you agree? I think the pool area is just beautiful.

jgates.......you are right. The pool area is just beautiful. We even had a day to enjoy it over Christmas.

Quick question. I now have a fanatic DH. I keep telling him about the things that I read on these boards, now he has questions. He qualifies for the teacher rate. He wants to know what kind of views can you get from the swan. He really wants to try those heavenly beds. Second question is which is better, the swan or the CR?:smooth:
